Chapter Five: Retribution

Andaluza came back into the cockpit with a book. “Apollo, this book has a full list of possible Ascendii abilities. Why would anyone be having this in a civilian jet? Are Ascendii in other parts of the universe?”

Apollo stared at the book. “That’s a text book for forbidden ascendii abilities, and you’re reading it wrong. You have to read it top to bottom going right at a 45 degree angle. Not left to right, that’s stupid.”

Faye just looks at the book and holds her head, letting out a sigh, Only Ascendii would do something like that… I could understand up and down or right to left… but a 45 degree angle? She looks around, realizing she’s stuck with three Ascendii… She was not being paid enough for this job…

Apollo handed Faye the book. “See if you can do anything in it. Look, like pressurized exhalation. It requires no fire, just strong muscles and a pair of lungs.”

Faye just looks at Apollo, “Seriously? Have you seen me use the muscles I don’t have?” She types a bit on her datapad, “No, you keep your weird magic.”

Pressurized Exhalation: Release a strong gust of wind from your lungs. Requires no electrokinetic experience. Take in a deep breath, then breathe in even more air. Hold your breath and compress your chest. Then forcefully exhale it. Lasts for about 10 seconds to a minute. Side effects may include small dizziness from lack of air or lung tearing if not done properly.

Apollo stared at the page. “Dunno about you Faye, but that’s the first thing I’m trying when we arrive.”

“Just don’t tear your lungs”, Pandora said before considering doing it her self.

Faye lets out a sigh and looks at the three of them… This was seriously what she had to work with…

Jack ran to his cruiser, climbing in it and digging through items.
“I doubt you’ll leave me alone.” <i>Jack yelled to Cy, who followed him to his vehicle.</i>
“If I go out in public, they’ll know it’s me. Which means I need to lay low for a while. But I can’t stop trying to save people. We’re going to my lab. It’s been abandoned around thirty years, but it will work as a hideout on Earth. We’ll stay here and keep broadcasts on Keepers activity and OGA from a distance, as well as police feed. Since most cops on this planet are corrupt anyway, I’ll have to do their job anyway.” <i>Jack lifted up a faded red mask with an embroidered triangle on it, stuffing it back in a chest.</i>
“Atlas is back.”

Apollo flipped through the pages and read down it. “Uh, this book is weird. Andaluza, this thing has things from making models out of fire to turning yourself into a rocket. I can’t believe this much stuff is illegal.”

Andaluza counted the logic and simply shrugged. “Well, most of the galaxy is ok with Ascendii, but views them as a threat. That’s why many of their abilities were lost in time. I’m keeping this book though. Whichever superpower wanted these books before us, too bad it’s ours now. A lot of the stuff in here is bullshit. Who would want to be able to burn water?”

“Like give water a, black burn, like BURNING it? That is bs water can’t burn… Can it?”, Pandora said puzzled.

Apollo turned the page and it read something shocking.
Expulsion Perceptive Shockwave: Release a blast of explosive energy from your eyes. Focus electrokinesis and pyrokinesis through your eyes. Use of two abilities at once normally would cause some pain, but in this case, will increase your aggression. Do not use unless you must absolutely have to. This is also illegal.

Andaluza looked at a glass of water. “Not black burn, but set on fire. Basically waterproof fire. Highly flammable.”
