Chapter Four: Fork In The Road

Andaluza followed Jack up to the top and talked angrily. “What do you want? We’re supposed to be after Midzog.”

Apollo shrugged. “I get excited before missions. It’s just me.” Apollo’s eyes flashed bright silver for a second before returning to normal. “And sometimes I get too excited.”

“If you’re on the team, you gotta cut out all that anger, man. I know your father is a sociopath dick, but you can’t just carry that shit around. Your father made me the way I am, and I out of all people know what he is capable. But you’re not who your father is. You’re young, much younger than I am. Your father’s evil, but you’re not. I know you’re not. And you have to trust me. And I have to trust you. From now on, we have to be teammates in order for this to work. Okay?” He stuck out his hand, looking at him.

Rose nodded a bit confused, “I can see that… Mr. Pure Breed, are you alright?”

Apollo shrugged again. “I’m alright.”

Andaluza shoved Jack’s hand away and gave him a hug, similar to Apollo does. “I’m so sorry. Midzog. I want him gone. He’s not a father, he’s an illegal guardian.”

Jack embraced him.
“It’s okay, man. It’s okay. He was horrible to you. He’s done a lot of terrible things, and we’re gonna avenge all the people he hurt. You will avenge them. We can fix this.” Jack smiled.

Rose gave Apollo an apologetic smile, “I apologize for my earlier behavior. It…brought back memories of what Midzog did to me…and I sort of reacted very bad…” Rose looked down a bit.

Andaluza took out of his pocket a small black gun. “For you, Jack. It’s not a real weapon, but it does help a bluff. It’s the same weapon as the OGA’s omega blaster. The only reason it’s not real is because we are not stooping as low to use such dark technology.”

Jack took it, slowly revolving it in his hands.
“Thank you. Let’s head back down.” Jack put the gun in the inside pocket of his jacket, walking downstairs. He heard Rose talking about the files.
“You guys found the old files of their experiments? Did you grab it?” He asked eagerly, staring at Rose.

Apollo looked at Rose. “It’s alright. We all do things like that-” Apollo remembered Rose running away, burning everything. “-actually we don’t but you get the idea. It’ll be alright. I’ve never liked taking away lives, but if Midzog had the guts to do this, his guts will be mine.”

Rose smiled at Apollo, “Thank you.”
Rose looked at Jack a bit confused but searched her pockets, maybe Katherine put them there? Rose pulled out the papers and looked at it, handing all but one file to Jack.

Apollo handed the Project Atlas file to Jack. “Read the footnote first, and then the entire thing. It’ll make a lot more sense.”

Jack turned on the small metal box, flitting through the files.
“I was eleven when I was first abducted…which means I was there till I was 18…God, I remember some of these…” He said, staring at the gruesome photos.

Apollo put his hand on Jack’s shoulder. “You were quite impressive after that. It took a tree for me to arrest you after that.”
