Chapter Six: Split Paths

Apollo snatched the plasma grenade out of Andaluza’s hand and threw it into a building. “We don’t need this.”
Apollo also slapped Andaluza across the face. “Start behaving, you’re both on the same side so we don’t have time for squabbles. If you want to solve a problem, just arm wrestle it out.”
Apollo then leaned towards Jack. “The only reason I mentioned arm wrestling is cause you’re always right.”

The building next to them suddenly exploded, fire blasting out of the windows.
“Well, alright then. Anyway, this is Apollo and Andaluza. They pretend to be scary, but they’re lightweight losers. We have an illegal team of hunting OGA and other nasty affairs, I’m the muscle and the murder of the team, also the kinda-leader? Apollo is the pacifist, or Ascendii version of pacifist, on our team, and Andaluza is the not-really-on-our-team but won’t go away ex-OGA member and son of the guy that experimented on you. Also, he killed Apollo’s sister. Apollo doesn’t mind though, he kinda takes punches all the time. Also there’s a dog-guy, but he’s not here right now. And a shapeshifting icy bitch and another Ascendii girl who has split-personality. That’s us.”

Apollo smiled back at Jack. “Thanks, but we’re YOUR lightweight losers! Also, Andaluza weighs something like 130 pounds.”

“Exactly what I said. Lightweight loser.” Jack pulled out a cigarette, lighting it.
“Look, Ree’s gone. I managed to get this on him during the…interrogation.” Jack pulled up a little screen, showing a yellow square on a grid.
“Tracker. We can follow him straight to Ozy.” Jack grinned.

Andaluza crossed his arms. “Y’know, for a guy with such a thick head, you’re pretty smart. But there’s one flaw. Have you seen the way he’s been acting lately? He might not at all be with Ozymandias anymore. He might try to form his own corporation with his superweapon codenamed ‘Project Mackley.'”

“She’s not my split personality!! She was locked inside me at birth!!! Plus she older than me and a phyco don’t you compare me to her!!”, Pandora said taking offense, her Tatto glowed angryly.

“Ten points for stupid name.”

“I second that!!”, Pandora yelled still frustraited but agreeing with Apollo.

“Relax Pandora, I meant Katherine. Good to know you have the same thing, though.” He took a drag.
“Thanks, Andy. If he’s gone rogue, that’s fine. Deciding to try to overthrow Ozy is a bad move, even for someone as strong as him. Ozy can’t match him in physical power, but he knows how to outsmart him. If we play our cards right, maybe Ozy can take him down before we get there and we just have to clean up the mess and go straight for Ozy.”

Apollo cupped his hands over the cigarette, then created a giant smoke bunny from the vapors. “We can do that. Ree is strong, but pretty stupid. So, we clean this up instead?”

Andaluza nervously laughed. “Did I mention that Project Mackley involves an army of genetically engineered Ascendii…?”

Ree held the vial of a mix of Jack, Apollo, and Andaluza blood. “Mostly Jack, but, it’ll do.” Ree detached his bionic wings and poured in the blood before modifying himself.
Ree got up from the chair, slightly limping from the muscle weight. “Ah…” Ree flexed his arm, the bicep and veins visibly bulging. “Ten points for flashiness…” Ree then walked up to a pipe. “I wanted this gone for a long time. Instead of severing it with heat vision, I can now do THIS!” Ree lept up and hit the pipe from the top, sending it down three floors. “That’s a sign of success.”

“That poses slightly more of a threat.” Jack said.
“Whatever. We’ve survived worse.”

Apollo nodded. “It’s true. We’ve been kicking butt for 600 years. Now, let’s get ourselves a- nevermind.”
Apollo pointed to the conveniently placed warehouse with a small merchant gunship parked inside.
“I call left side shotgun, which means I fly it!” Apollo darted to the ship and began studying its interiors in three seconds. “Ok, seems fit to go. Let’s do this!”

Andaluza rolled his eyes at Apollo. “Jack, can we tell him to keep it down to an 65?”
Andaluza then followed into the ship and began a more CAREFUL examination. “Wow, he’s right. Looks good to go!”
