Chapter Two: Outlaws

Rose smiled, “You really are still the girl I met on that day,” Heiklm patted Malice’s head, “We must get going, perhaps to the planet with the now orphans that which we saved.” Rose’s smile widened, “Oh yes! Lets get going, we can introduce you to them and everything!” Heiklm kept his hand on her head as Rose held his arm.
Suddenly they were gone from the alley and in the planet, some of the kids were awake and worrying before rushing towards Heiklm, Rose, and Malice. “Who are you? Were you also rescued?” A kid asked Malice.

<i>Odysseus’ hologram rolls away, following Malice and Rose’s trail until he finally meets them. </i>”Hello. I’m sorry that this happened.”

Kika looks over the diagnostic and fixes up as much as she can, listening to Jack argue with Ody, her smile only widening as he made more enemies…
She gets the engines working perfectly well, repairs minor breaches in the oxygen-nitrogen tanks, and even sodders the controls so they work faster. “Hehehehe!~ Oh Annabelle, I can taste our freedom!~” She says silently as she works on it.

Edit: <i>The holographic display quickly follows Malice, Rose, and Heiklm through the portal that they used to travel to the children.</i>

Malice looks at the kid, “hm…something like that I guess~” she said smiling

“Don’t you dare talk to me about loss! I’ve lost everything, you dried up bastard!” Jack screamed, picking up the machine and screaming into it, shaking.
“I lost everything because I do trust! I’ve been broken over and over and over and-and I have to watch myself just live! I hate it! How do you think Shavari died, man? How do you think Seth did? Sollie? Mia?! Brine?! Huh? Do you? Because of me! Because that’s what happens to people like us! And I can’t die! So don’t tell me that I just need to open my heart up and let scum like Nathan was join the team and fucking murder people again! Rocky died because of him, because of me! So don’t you fucking dare, Odysseus! I hate it! Fuck you!” <i>Jack threw the machine, falling to his knees and sobbing.</i>

“Malice, Heiklm, Rose. What do you say we get the children home? And how would you like to join me in making preparations to defeat the OGA?”

<i>Odysseus sits silently in his ship’s cockpit, a single tear rolling down his cheek. He whispers to himself, away from the holographic monitor. </i>”Good-bye, Jack. Good luck.”

Kika hears the sounds of Jack’s sobbing and almost feels bad for him…almost. Everything he said was true. All of his friends died. And for what? No gain in his cause. They didn’t die due to trust, they died because of a misguided and cruel leader with an impossible goal in mind. Many lives were gone because of him, and only more would follow. She just hoped that the others would see the blessings of the OGA…
Kika walks into the hall where Jack was, looking a bit sad for him, “J-Jack? B-Betty is ready when you are.” She tries to smile.

Rose smiled sadly as she picked up the little device, “As much as I wish I can join you, Jack, and the others. There are many reasons that go against it. Tell Jack, I know what he is feeling, for it happened to me a few times at OGA. I once planned a retreat with a few others but…they got killed and tortured before my eyes when we failed….Another reason is, Odysseus, you are like me, you don’t know who you are. Just, keep these cards will you?” Rose took out a Nine of Swords card and the two she had earlier. “May you all find peace.” Rose burned the cards before they fluttered around Jack as she crushed and destroyed the device, throwing it through the portal as it closed.

“We’re leaving…now. Ody refuses to help us. Piece of shit.” He sniffed.
“Looks like it’s just me and you now.” Jack said to Kika. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry about everything. I just wanna go home. I’ve lost so damn much, Kika…” Jack sighed, standing up and wiping his face.

Kika goes up to Jack, looking him up and down. She expands her arms to offer a hug, but moves no closer, “It’s not too late, Jack…I won’t think less of you if you go back home…Hell, a seven hundred year old man deserves a break…” She smiles, “Betty is preped for whatever trip you choose.”

Chapter 2.5: Elegy
<i>Previously on: THE KEEPERS Our heroes have gone their separate ways, as the Universe seems in infinitely more peril than ever! A spy lies in the midst of the remaining Keepers, while Rose/Katherine, Malice, and Heiklm attempt to work as a new group of vigilantes. Ozymandias, manipulating Odysseus and working silently against his plans, now sets a dangerous and deadly game in motion. </i>
<i>Four months pass…</i>
Distress signals have flown past the Keepers current base by the thousands, and there are too many for the team to decide to pursue. Jack has been lost in a drunken haze, a recluse cut off from the world, while Kika and Apollo wait for him to return to reality. The other group struggles on an outlying world, as the OGA forces stream down from above.
War has begun…

Jack hugged her.
“Thanks. I’m not going home though. Shit to be done. I got some coverage on Midzog apparently going to a colony on Mars, apparently he’s got a base there. It’ll be a while to get there, but I can explain things on the ride over.”
