(I don’t want to be an alternate you, Jack. We’re scrubbing that. It’s stupid.)

Apollo yells across the hallway. “HURRY UP!!! Also Ody is not Jack and he’s not THAT skinny! And don’t get started on me.”

Jack didn’t go with Apollo, choosing to stand with Rose and talk.

“Fine nitroglycerin, but you are missing the workout you need…” Wind speeds in the gym picked up to 40 while Apollo flew around and around the massive area at tremendous speeds

Katherine sat on Jack’s bed as they talked. ”You were an experiment?” Katherine pulled her legs to her chest as she looked Jack’s room.

“Yep.” Jack said, closing the door to prevent eavesdroppers like Kika listening in. He walked over to his record player, turning it on to drown out their conversation. Strange old music played.

“Can’t have any spies. Anyway, I was an OGA experiment. Abducted when I was twelve. Rough stuff. Got tortured for three years in a little metal lab. Only escaped when the Exansis, y’know, the Ascendii army the OGA were fighting around seven hundred years ago raided the lab. They bombed it, I ran away. Joined some bandits for a while after they picked me up off the planet I was kidnapped to. After that, I wanted petty revenge. Kill the guy that was in charge of it. Apollo caught me when he was around nineteen, a wee little lad then. Ever since then, he never fuckin’ let me out of his sight.” Jack sighed.

Malice being bored decided to walk around and explore a little, hearing all the screaming she went to the gym o see what was going on.

“The little things they did on me do help a lot, but I hate it. I don’t need sleep anymore, I don’t need food. It makes me think I’m really dead, y’know? To not need water. To not need anything. I feel like a walking corpse. I finally killed the guy that did it, Midzog. And ever since then I’ve just had this empty feeling. So I’ve devoted it to hunting the OGA. Seven hundred years later and they’re still fucking around. Ugh.”

Katherine looked surprised, “I didn’t expect you to be this…old. Though I should have guessed it I suppose. But that plan seems a bit sad though, have you ever just relaxed since then? I know its hypocritical to say but….Living, I believe, doesn’t mean surviving, living is when you feel yourself at true peace, true happiness, when you actually feel a spark. You cannot obtain this spark easily, sometimes you have to chase it, sometimes you have to wait, sometimes it may even come to you. The question is, will you acknowledge the spark in the first place? Will you fight to keep it? Will you even remember, for years to come, what that spark is?”

“Uh, Jack… About that… Midzog is alive.”

(Also, through a slight discussion, I am now good with me being an alternate Jack, although we only know this through DNA comparisons, hinting that we once had identical DNA structures. Also, preferably know one knows deliberately about my past in the alternate universe yet. Otherwise, carry on.)

“I tried. I donated so much money to fundraisers, to everything, and still nothing. I tried settling down. Nothing. I had a happy feeling, but I haven’t had it for years. I can’t ever relax. I try to be human, but it doesn’t work, it just doesn’t. I don’t need sleep but I’m always tired. I don’t need food but I’m always hungry. Even after I eat. Even after I sleep. I refused to leave my room for a week once. Just slept and slept and slept. When I woke up, nothing. I’m always tired. Always hungry. Always thirsty. Always dead. It sucks. And the only thing I’m good at is killing people. So I put my killing towards a good cause, fighting a corporation like this that murders and steals and pillages on a planetary level. But still. Just nothing. This is the best conversation I’ve had in months, probably. Maybe years.” Jack dug around in a drawer, looking for something. He found a dusty old bottle, uncorking it and sitting down in a velvet armchair across from Rose.

“I don’t know what to do anymore. So I just keep on going forever. Hopefully one day, I’ll just run out of batteries.” Jack drank.

Apollo, who was now a proton in an accelerator, clocking 400 miles an hour in the gym, missed a wingbeat and smashed through the door, tumbling through the halls and making a massive hole in a bedroom door. “Bad landing…”. Apollo looked back through the hall and saw he burst through three walls, with Malice on the other end, where the gym was.

Odysseus sits down at the desk in his room, his old room, and stares at the wall, silently drinking his tea as he puts some light classical music on his record player. The lamp casts a dull glow in the room, and Odysseus picks up a dusty tarot card identical to Rose’s set from beneath some papers. It depicts a white tulip. “Oh, I’ve forgotten so much.” Odysseus then proceeds to a drawer, and pulls out a holographic imager, turning it on to depicts several old 3-D images and files.

Malice looked through holes in the wall, “Are you okay?”
