Mr Pank was very upset still and looked at the raising Rai in the back. He looked at him with a glare and said, “WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?! SIT YOUR ASS BACK DOWN!!!”
Mr Haruno glared at Mr Pank as his brows furrowed deeply. His nostrils flared as he took an angry and strong breath. He spoke out, “You never talk to a student like that no matter their age. He is a student and thus close to being a ninja. Closer than you ever got, Vittl.”
Mr Pank’s face contorted and he shook his head as he yelled back, “EVERY TEAM NEEDS A BRAIN, TEBASHI!”
Mr Haruno folded his arms over his chest and he smirked, the frown leaving his face as he took this as a challenge. “Team members need brains in order to function together and the strength and speed to pull their weight. The team balance rests in the three prime areas of specializations, Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, and Taijutsu with possible branched specializations depending on the team.” He flipped his hand palm up, he was hoping to give Rai time to do what he was going to do and keep Mr Pank’s attention on him for a while. He flicked his pointer and middle fingers to make Mr Pank take the challenge.
Mr Pank turned red again and said in a balanced voice for once, “No, you need a brain, a powerhouse, and a speed demon. That is how it works.”
“Not how it used to work,” Mr Haruno engaged into a very intelligent debate. “Yes you can have those with those three areas filled, but if you do not have a specialist in Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, and Taijutsu, you are making a weak point. Even if two members cover one and a half, at least there is a full team with a third being a wild or the brains. Where as if someone focuses just strength, yes they can do Taijutsu but not much else. Someone who focuses speed it just that, fast. As for intelligence, with nothing else it makes them a useless target and a sitting duck. That is what you always were in practice, a damsel in distress where myself and Horai had to get you out of shit. And look where we all are. I as the Taijutsu specialist got into teaching and now promoted to head of ANBU. Horai is sitting pretty like a vice president for his brother and he was Genjutsu and Ninjutsu. And you… poor pathetic you…”
“Shut up…” Mr Pank demanded as his face seemed to turn from red to blue.
“You are just a substitute teacher.” Haruno smirked and showed his teeth because he knew what would come next. Mr Pank ended up passing out from not breathing in his fit of anger. Haruno then looked at them and said, “All of you, I hope you learned something today.” He spotted the tiny bird out of the window but didn’t draw attention to it, looking at them. His nurse was tugging on him, trying to get him to sit down again. He continued to refused despite shaking legs.
-
Muri glanced through the window as she flew past, noticing both Mr. Haruno and Mr. Pank in the classroom discussing something, although it was too muffled to hear through the window-glass. At least, the horrible teacher didn’t seem to be shouting anymore. Sweet! Well, if teach is back, I reckon I can stand to sit through class again. See what that extra credit was all about. Unfortunately, the student was still expelled from the school, and while that wouldn’t have been a problem if only Mr. Haruno was teaching the class, Mr. Pank was there too and would likely do his block if she came slinking back. It was impossible for the student to manage a smirk through her fiery beak, but she would have if she could. The plan was probably doomed to failure, but her rebellious spirit demanded that she try this.  After confirming that Haruso, Jane and the lame students unwilling to risk doing actual work had not returned to the classroom since yesterday, Muri flew to the school entrance and undid her transformation. A swirl of dark smoke surrounded her as she quickly attempted another normal transformation jutsu to take the form of one  of the absent students in the classroom.  While she didn’t think that Mr. Haruno would rat her out, Haruso and Jane’s departure with the demon made bothh of them poor choices in a disguise. I’ll have to choose one of the lame, cowardly wankers then… It would have been hard to remember their faces just off the top of her head, but luckily she had been practicing how to transform into one of them the other day, so it would be a little easier to attempt.  “Lucky!” Muri chimed before  performing the hand-signs and disappearing in another cloud of smoke.
“Eergh,” Muri muttered in frustration, “this body is not my bowl of rice. Heaps gross.” She had attempted to take the form of her training partner from the other day: the creepy and quiet Aburame girl.  Although she had no mirror or way of checking her own reflection, Muri hoped it would be good enough to pass. The girl tentatively prodded the eye-tubes and face grate before shuddering with disgust. With the transformation complete, Muri took the elevator to the the sixteenth floor and cautiously approached the door to her classroom. Alright, infiltration mission…START!  I’ve got to speak only a little, mumble a lot and be a creepy loser…shouldn’t be too hard, I reckon. Didn’t she have a speech impediment or something? Shit, well I’ll just not talk much and hope that slides by. The girl tentatively knocked on the classroom door gently, so gently that the noise might not have been heard. “…H-h-hello? …Sorry… I’m late,” she mumbled quietly and eased the classroom door open, keeping her head down in a manner that might be considered shy or contrite.
-
Mr Haruno looked at the late student and cocked his head a bit as his eyes focused and put things together. He sighed as his ears twitched and said, “She doesn’t sound like that. Reveal yourself.” He picked up Mr Pank’s body and threw it out the open door into the hallway despite the medical nin tugging on his arm and telling him not to fruitlessly, muscles rippling on his arms. He then turned his attention back to the entering student as the pupils locked hard onto her but in a friendly manner and said, “You didn’t study her mannerisms very well, did you? Guessing you are Muri since the others aren’t good enough to do her right off the bat and you worked with her.” He smirked to her and continued, “They didn’t promote me for nothing.” He did question the integrity of the Hokage but it was obvious he wanted something less pathetic to protect him.

Muri grimaced as her disguise was seen through rather easily. She’d need to practice a bit more on her own free time. Rai’s greeting to the return of Mr. Haruno made her smirk  little in appreciation though, it was good to know she hadn’t been the only one sick of Mr. Pank and his horrible teaching methods. Giving Mr. Haruno a sheepish smile, Muri reversed the transformation and returned to her normal appearance once Mr. Pank had been thrown out of the door. “Bugger,” she exclaimed with mild disappointment, “I really thought that’d work. You’ve got a corker of an ear, teach.  She didn’t talk much at all yesterday.” The last was spoken in a grudgingly appreciative manner. Guessing that Mr. Haruno would want an explanation for her general craziness, Muri  put on a chagrined expression as she spoke, “I had a bit of a blue with ol’ Megaphone-teach and he went as mad as a cut snake and chucked me out of the Academy when I told him to pull his bloody head in and teach.  He’d tell me to rack off if I just lobbed in without a disguise.” Muri gave a shrug, “Yeah. So that’s that. Now that he’s choofed off and I’ve made a proper gallah of myself, any chance I could be a student again?” A realization occurred to the girl and she started with surprise, pointing an astonished finger at Mr. Haruno, “Oi, and whaddya mean ‘promoted’?  I thought ya got busted by the ANBU for not being a wowzer.”
-
Mr Haruno bent at the waist, offering Rai the respect he was being shown back to him. Then as he stood, his lips pulled into a smirk as he said, “I see.” This was to Muri’s first statements and he then looked at the pointed finger as the smirk turned into a toothy smile. He gave a light chuckle as he brought a hand to his chin, his fingers curled with the exception of his pointer and thumb as they rest around the curve of his chin. He looked up at the ceiling before he looked back at Muri, “How about since you were kicked out, we’ll do private lessons. Rai can come as well but only after school. I will make sure you are both trained properly.” He turned his smile back to being neutral as he allowed his arms to come to rest at his sides, he decided to explain, “I was brought before the Hokage, who decided he needed a new head ANBU due to the current being dead. They’d already attempted to track down the killer but the needles in the body were from melted down steel of a earlier hand gun that could have been bought in any region. He decided he wanted someone stronger taking the helm of those idiots and I seemed a viable candidate. I accepted and the wraps on my knees were from ten of the ANBU attempting to force me to bow to the Hokage. They resorted to slicing at my inner knees.” He had a proud look on his face as the smile returned.

The girl’s face lit up at the mention of private lessons. Focusing her training with someone who actually had their stuff together would be much more productive than slogging through hours of dealing with Mr. Pank. And if Mr. Haruno was strong enough to throw the phony teacher out of the classroom, then he was probably healthy enough to not warrant concern. “Aces! That blow sounds awful,  but ya seem to be in good nick, that’s for sure.  Private lessons sound great! What time will we start at?” At the mention of the death of the captain of the ANBU, Muri took a more thoughtful expression as she wondered whether the murder from yesterday was connected at all. There was no reason for an Aburame to be unable to use a gun, but for that matter it seemed like a simple matter to kill any one of those ANBU.  “I’m keen for these lessons, teach,  but it sounds like ya have a crap-load of yakka set out for you trying to catch the murderer. Sure ya have time for this? And any chance the crim has sommat to do with the beastie that Lofty and I  fought yesterday?
-
Mr Haruno looked across the both of them and before he gave a full answer, he took into consideration Muri’s concerns. He offered a smirk and then a plain face as a thought of the beast possibly being in tandem with the killing of the former head of ANBU. His pupils shifted to Rai first as he said, “You can ditch the rest of class, but from here on out, you may only come after class.” His entire head then faced Muri as his eyes locked on her as he said, “We’ll go to the park right now for training. We’ll take the stairs and once we’re there, we can go over how exactly this creature looked so we can take down two birds with one stone, no offense.” He thought about Muri’s clan after the fact as he had went with the most familiar phrase to him. He crossed his arms over his chest, just for a moment with his left on top and hands tucked in before dropping them again to begin walking down the stairwell. He was willing to listen to what they had to say on the way there and kept an even pace of a stride of about two and a half feet.
-
Muri nodded in response and dutifully followed after Mr. Haruno down the stairs, giving the older man a slightly apathetic shrug, “No worries, fowl language don’t bother me none.” The young student hopped down the steps taking two or even three at a time as they began down the stairwell. She eyed him with her sharp, yellow gaze for a moment before speaking. “So I take it the monster we fought wasn’t yours, then?”  The appearance of the summoned beast exactly where Muri and Rai had been sent for their first mission, in addition to Mr. Haruno making it to the 9th floor just after the creature disappeared made her a little bit suspicious, even though she wanted to fully trust the teacher. The destruction of the floors above  made her theory unlikely, but she wanted to hear him say it. If the creature really hadn’t been part of their mission, then they had survived by a hair’s breadth.
-
Haruno looked at her as they made it down and out of the building and dreaded answering. He took a deep breath and said, “It wasn’t. Whoever summoned it killed the previous ANBU leader as well. It is a problem that I need to prepare as many as I can for.” He had a distressed tone even though his body held a strong and firm stance as if it wasn’t an issue. He was making an attempt to keep calm for the sake of these students so they wouldn’t need to worry and just train. He then spoke more seriously, “What is your drive?” He didn’t want to state why he asked it but it was a very important question.
-
The student’s brow furrowed as she considered Mr. Haruno’s words. Clearly, the rogue ninja was a problem and a danger to the whole village. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much she would be able to do as a mere student to help, at least with her current skill level. It was frustrating to admit even to herself that this was a trouble she was unable to solve. I guess the only thing for it is to train. Train, and be ready. The girl clenched a fist, digging her fingernails into her palm.
Mr. Haruno’s question threw her for a loop, since she hadn’t been expecting such a personal question. The tone in his voice demanded a serious answer so she took a moment to think about her response. They left the building and continued walking on, while Muri looked away for a moment to compose her thoughts.
Her motivation for becoming a ninja certainly wasn’t as noble or idealistic as those of the great ninjas of auld lang syne. In fact, it might have been one out of the many reasons why she hadn’t been allowed to train in Suna. Still, Muri thought as she studied Mr. Haruno through a side-glance, even if her answer changed the man’s mind about teaching her, he deserved an honest answer.
“Power,” she said and then frowned, “Nah that ain’t ridgey-didge.” Muri took a breath and then tried again, “Power’s just a means ta an end. What I really want is self-reliance.” She continued, feeling a need to explain herself further.
” I make do through leaning on heaps of blokes for food, a place ta crash, security, training…I wanna get strong enough ta pay off my debts and not have ta depend on other people. Having the freedom ta make my own choices and the ability ta deal with the consequences is important ta me.”
Her explanation didn’t sound quite as noble as wanting to protect others, but it was honest.
“It ain’t that I’m against teamwork, but I wouldn’t trust a bludger who relies on other blokes to get the job done. Useful as a one-legged man in a butt-kicking competition. I need ta learn ta fly on my own two wings before I think about joining a flock… if that makes sense.”
The girl grimaced, “Sorry if that ain’t whatcha wanted to hear, teach.” Then more sharply, “What’s yours?”
-
Mr Haruno listened and could read the sincerety on her. He wouldn’t interrupt her and let her fumble to explain herself. His smirk only grew with her piecing apart why and what she wanted out of it. His smirk only grew as she came to the end of her statements. He nodded and then heard her ask him in reply. He spoke firmly, “As a ninja, I should not tell. As an allie, I will. I was born into a family that tried to uphold the great name of my ancestor, sadly since I am not a woman, I did not inherit her name. I decided to instead embody my ancestor in a different way, through my actions. I trained hard and long and still am.” He smiled and said, “To live in the past to improve the future. This is my nindo.” He lead to the park and looked at the things in it and thought. He made silent plans of how to help train her to be a true ninja.
-
Muri noticed Mr. Haruno’s smirk grow during her answer and blinked, unsure whether it was a smile of satisfied approval or not. His own explanation was interesting in that it gave insight to his character and explained why he was strong compared to the wimpy ANBU.
The idea of being chained to the expectations of others and to some long-dead ancestor personally didn’t appeal to Muri, but to each’s own. It was clearly working out for him, and she certainly strived to emulate her own role models.
“Nindo,” she whispered under her breath to herself. It was important for ninjas to have one, and she liked how concisely Mr. Haruno phrased his. It would be something for her to think about and develop as her training continued.
Muri noticed that they had reached the park and looked around with a mixture of curiosity and unconcealed enthusiasm. “Alright, what’s first?”
