The Underground
-
Someone’s head bumps into the sink and there is the *klack klack* of a gun being dropped. “OW! FUCK!” A female voice shouts. Under the sink is a give or take 13 year old girl in a red hoodie with ripped jeans. “Shit….that really…hurt…” Her eyes go to jet and she slowly looks down the barrel the gun and smiles uneasily. “Ah heh heh …” She laughed faintly and uneasily. “Okay.” She sighs. “You got me…” She says admittedly.
She looks down for a second. “Guns right there.” She is looking down on it. It is a Beretta M9. She dropped it next to herself when she hit her head.
-
“Kick it. Middle of the floor.” he said shortly, not caring how young she was. Thirteen was old enough to do plenty of damage. Her weapon spun across the concrete, halting where sheetrock from the ceiling had fallen down into a moldy pile.
“Out, hands in the air where I can see them.” Jet’s voice and hand remained utterly still, and any trace of humor was buried deep. Having someone sneak into his home raised his hackles like little else could, and he wasn’t going to be nice about it.
-
She gets up. And crawls out from under the sink with her hands up. Where her face can be more easily seen. She has black straight hair that goes down to her neck and dirty beige skin. Her hoodie was red and her jeans were ripped from actual use and not having them made into it. She had a beige skin tone though her face was dirty. Her face was straight in a grim way.
She then stands on one knee and then she stands all the way up as Jet holds the gun at her. She looks at Jet as if waiting for him to say something.
-
Jet slid off the counter in one fluid motion, his gun not wavering even then. It remained on her as he moved to retrieve her gun, which he stuck into his belt, along with the one he’d stolen from Nightmare. three for three; he’d have to make more holsters.
Jet nodded very slightly to one wall, where the faded past of a refrigerator’s outline could be seen. “Hands against the wall.” Once she was in position, he patted her down, though he was careful not to linger too near her chest or groin. Just enough to check for hidden weapons.
“Why were you hiding in here?” Jet asked after a moment, having moved down to her ratty pants.
-
She went into position as hsme. He
would find, another gun. It is is in her hoodie. She looked straight at the wall. “Cause…I was searching the place….I thought it was abandoned…” She didn’t actually sound very scared like many people would think she would. She seemed to be keeping calm well enough. Saying her answers straightly. -
“Not abandoned. This place is mine, so you’ll have to beat it.” He pulled out the gun, looking it over, On the one hand, he didn’t necessarily want to take all her weapons, since she’d have to defend herself on the streets. On the other, he wasn’t about to give her a way to shoot him in the back.
Removing the clip, he shoved it in his pocket, then handed the gun back to her. Maybe he’d give her the ammo back when she was too far away to shoot; he’d have to think about it. At least she wasn’t blubbering like an idiot. The girl sounded calm enough, but that set him on his guard.
“Look at me.” he said, stepping back and aiming his gun between her eyes. “Did you come alone? Is there anyone else who knew where you were going? And what made you think this place was abandoned?” Even though he couldn’t talk to Kal in his mind, he rather hoped the creature would be listening in. Jet was pretty good at telling when he was being lied to, but Kal could probably sense it much better. Heart-rate elevation and stuff like that.
-
“Beat it? Well. Ok…” she says lowly.
She looked him in his eyes constantly. “Well. I am alone. Nobody else knows where I am and that I am here. And well. Uhm. I didn’t know.”
Kal could be heard in Jet’s head.
“She lied about the previous statement of abandonment. She seems to know this place is inhabited. Her other statements seem to be true.”
-
Jet was only momentarily startled by the very mental invasion he’d been hoping for. Perhaps someday he would get used to it, but he was still not expecting to hear that familiar voice in his head. The only outward sign he gave, though, was a slight unfocusing of the eyes, and an increase in tension. He was going to lose track of how much he owed to Kal at this point.
Turning his attention back to the girl, Jet’s blue eyes narrowed. “I don’t appreciate being lied to. Want to try again? The truth this time.” He shifted a step nearer, more to scare her than because he really wanted to hurt her. “Tell me why you came here if you already knew this place was occupied.”
-
She is silent for a few seconds…as her face didn’t change at all when Jet went up. Though one could see her eyes shaking a bit. “Because I was looting you. I was trying to see what you had. I was looking for a little food and maybe some guns…”
Kal then says to jet in his head. “She is lying.”
-
Jet’s movement was quick and precise as he forced her back against the wall, the barrel of the gun sliding to her temple as he wrenched her arms over her head, pinning them with his other hand. For someone so underfed as himself, he was stronger than he looked.
“Listen,” he growled, “I don’t care for shooting kids, but I can break my usual rule if I have to. Either you tell me the truth, or your time on the streets is going to be cut very short.” Jet was not pleased at all, and it showed in the hard edge of his mouth, and the sharp color of his eyes. He had detected something like a lie in her quavering eyes, but having Kal confirm it definitely helped. Jet had decided to be frightening at the moment; he hoped it would work.
-
She grunts as Jet pins her against the walls and she struggles for a moment jerking forward to be pinned back again. It is no use. Jet is older and stronger then she is. She turns her head to the side averting her temple from the gun and she closes her eyes tightly her brows furrowed for a moment as points the gun at her.
“ALRIGHT!” She opens her eyes to look at Jet as he looks at her panting a bit. “Ok. I came here because I…thought I saw something. Alright? I saw something flying. I didn’t knoq what it was, but I thought it was a plane. Like. A drone or something else I don’t know. I saw it the other night when I was on a roof looking at the fucking stars. So I came in here. I heard about you and since your just one guy I decided to try and sneak in and see whats in here! Whatever you have I didn’t find it and I swear to god that is the truth.”
There is a bit of silence of a moment. She is breathing heavily and she looks down. Glancing up for a moment and then looking back down.
Then Kal confirms it a few moments later after the pause. “…She seems to be telling the truth.”
-
Jet was of Kal’s opinion, though that didn’t make him any more inclined to be nice to the girl. If he hadn’t been afraid something like this was behind her sudden appearance, he would have given himself and Kal away by reacting. Only a moment of hesitation, or going pale, and she would have known she was onto something. The girl was smart enough for that, but Jet didn’t give anything away. At least, he hoped not.
The hands pinning her wrists eased, and he pulled his gun away a few centimeters, so it wasn’t pushing into her skull. Yet he didn’t let go completely. His eyes were still fixed on her, narrow and cold, hiding the fear of discovery.
“If someone’s flying a drone around here it’s not mine. But they better not be using it on me.” He nodded at his gun for emphasis, then leaned in slightly to glare at her. “You sure it wasn’t you with a drone? I’ve had problems with rats before…” Yes, go with the lie, throw her off the trail. “And what do you mean you’ve ‘heard’ about me being alone?”
-
She lets out a sort of sigh of relief. Though she didn’t quite look comfortable or even completely at ease. “No. It wasn’t me with a drone…I don’t have that kind of tech…”
“Well. A few people know about you. I’ve heard there is a guy who lives alone in a shitty building. That you used to run with some gangs or, something. Then they said you quite. For…I dunno, people say a lot of things. But. Whatever! It doesn’t matter! Just let me go alright! I’ll pay you. Right now. Five bucks to let me go. Ten if you give me my clip back….just toss it off the side of the building and I’ll go down to go get it. Alright?”
-
Jet’s blue eyes searched hers for a long while, and he said nothing. Her words were clanking around in his head like so many pieces of sharp metal. Obviously she didn’t have a drone, so that didn’t bother him. It was her other words that rankled.
“If I live in a shitty apartment, why would I have that kind of tech myself?” he posited, then stepped back, releasing her. “I don’t want your money, I just want you gone. You’re damn lucky I can actually handle a firearm, unlike the gangs I’m supposed to belong to.” Bastards couldn’t shoot straight, and usually ended up killing people they weren’t even targeting.
Though he had moved away from her, the young man still held his gun up, aimed at her head. “Show me which way you came in.”
-
She looks partially fearful of jet overall. Though her eyes do show some anger and stress with her fear. Though she doesn’t particularly want to show the anger part right now. mumbles lowly. “This wouldn’t be the first time I’ve had a gun to my head…..” When jet asks her how she got in. She goes ahead and lets her hands down as she walks into the hallway. She then shows Jet to his own room, with the twelfth story window as she gestures to it. Kal is not in the room. “There.” She says simply with no further explanation.
