Jet did not look happy at this idea, and didn’t answer right away. His eyes went from the girl to Kal, then back again, as his mouth and eyes grew hard. Mostly this was to cover up the fact that he was in pain and it was getting hard to think straight. Mostly, he just wanted to find somewhere to collapse and sleep this off. Her ‘place’ could have a beat-up old couch or something, but it could also have a drunk father or violent, jealous boyfriend.

Jet shut his eyes tightly, trying to clear his mind and remember what she’d said when he first discovered her in his apartment. She said she was alone, that she lived alone, and neither he nor Kal felt she was lying. It wasn’t unheard of for kids her age to be on their own, but he couldn’t be sure. Of course, if they could leave her in her place and head off on their own that particular problem was solved.

Rubbing his face for a moment, Jet winced as a shift in weight aggravated his wound, but he tried not to show it. His eyes fell once more on the girl, and he let out a heavy breath.

”Alright, we’ll chance it, but only if the place is empty. Kal will be scanning for anyone else in your apartment. The minute he says someone’s there we leave you on the roof and disappear.”

With that he gave a nod to Kal and slid the crutches over his arms so he could carry them on his shoulders. It was awkward to balance on one foot but it would only be for a moment.
