Dex had ashed out his fifth cigarette for that morning. It was hard work chasing demons and trying to pull them out of people. He could have done something….anything else but it seemed he was destined for darkness. He picked up the angel feather in front of him and brushed his hand over it. He had been told a long time ago that anyone that plucked the feather from an angel they would inherit all the celestial’s abilities and that story was true and trying to get rid of someone that was part angel and part demon was no easy task which was why he was smoking like a chimney that morning.
“Where the hell is everyone….sure is great of them to show up when I needed them…I dunno why the hell I hired them”
Dex said to himself as he leaned back in his chair, stretching a little to try and get comfortable. He had a few wounds that needed to be tended too but he would see to it later unless someone went all “Mom” on him and nagged him until the laid back slightly aloof exorcist had them tended too.
It was too quiet in his cottage home that was literally out in the middle of nowhere. It was usually filled with voices of those that worked closely with him. He had trackers, psychics, even those that were part angel or demon themselves. He was like a pound for misfits but they all played a part in his endeavor to rid the world of evil. So when he was alone it seemed very empty, they all should have been there by now….
-
Aura ran up to Dex with an apologetic smile. “Sorry that I wasn’t here earlier I was busy with, um, something…..” Aura trailed off as she saw the state Dex was in. “How did you get those injuries?” The brunette scanned Dex with a critical eye, taking note of the angel feather and cringing a bit, if it was a half angel half demon guy then….damn. Dex was pretty strong of a guy, but to take one of those guys, it would take a lot of time and energy.
Aura looked up to Dex in more than one way, it was hard not too. Dex was the most experienced member of the team, he was also one of the strongest. Plus, he created the group that she can call friends and sometimes even family, though some do get mad at her and scold her, they were pretty nice too. Even her best friend was in the group! Dex never judged, and had a weird way of expressing himself, but overall he was sort of chill. Hopefully he can handle her off days, they’ve been more frequent and she’s worried that she may hurt them during an exorcism….
Shaking her head, Aura opened her bag and took out some medical supplies, “Shirt off please, and tell me what you may have injured. You know, the usual.” Aura smiled patiently at Dex. It wasn’t uncommon for one of the team to become injured on their self assigned missions, Dex was the most frequent one. Though Aura wasn’t the best medic on the team, she had her fair share of experience with patching people up.
-
Dex rolled his eyes and sighed when Aura came rushing up to him but he smiled. He would never be mad at anyone for being late and despite that she was a good kid, to him everyone was a kid it didn’t matter who they were or what abilities they had.
Without complaining Dex did as he was told. He knew better then to get on Aura’s bad side. He was a strong son of  bitch but he was brainy enough to know NEVER EVER piss off a woman.
“Ahh you know same old, same old, torn chest, excessive bleeding yadda yadda”
Dex waved his hand around flippantly as he stood up removing the black “Iron Maiden” torn up shirt that had a not so attractive image on it. He pulled it up over his muscular body and tossed it onto the desk before him. His body have been sliced through like a hot knife through butter. He had been clawed at and bitten by the half demon and half angel. He was far too stubborn to go to the hospital and he wouldn’t never know what to say without being locked up into a loony bin.
Dex sat back down and waited. He was waiting for some kind of response like “You could have been killed!” and quite right he could have, he was only human after all. He didn’t have an ability to heal or regenerate he was just an average guy whose pain medication consisted of cigarettes and whiskey.
“A Demon got hold of an Angel and plucked it’s feather…you know nice a violent…exhausting but shit happens right?”
He smiled at Aura and gave her a wink.
-
Stark had entered the room and immediately saw that Dex was shirtless and severally injured. He sighed and pulled the glasses off from the bridge of his nose and proceeded to clean them with the pale peach colored business shirt that he had worn. He had been asleep most of the day, as vampires did and didn’t even hear Dex until Aura had arrived to tend to his wounds. He lightly touched the female on the head and since he always respectful to women he greeted them in a nice way. “Good to see you Aura” he said politely in his thick English accent. He looked at Dex and shook his head at him. Why the man persisted to sit in the blasted chair smoking even on the verge of death was any wonder to him.
Stark pulled up a chair and sat across from Dex simply to breath in the scent of fresh blood. It was wonderful, truly wonderful. He had never drank from a human without permission and he had never killed one either. He slayed vampires like that, those that were wild and unforgiving with clearly no manners or respect for the living. Even though he took a disliking towards Dex when they first met Stark had to admit if it wasn’t for the man he would probably be nothing more then a pile of ashes and the man did also offer up his own blood so that Stark could continue to exist so he couldn’t hate the guy but he could pretend that he did.
Stark looked at the angels feather on the desk and felt a pang of guilt. Dex had taken on something or someone that had taken a feather from an angels wing. No wonder he was so torn up, that was one of the hardest things anyone could do and it was any wonder how Dex survived at all.
-
Aura sighed as she scanned over the injuries, smiling at his attempt to calm her down. “IÂ know….” Aura grabbed a cloth and soaked it in alcohol before applying it none so gently on the cuts. Sort of like pay back for every single day he did suicide missions alone. “I’m not going to scold you but…you are a pretty stupid human. Almost like a kid.”
Aura didn’t necessarily consider herself human due to the curse. She always knew she could never fully be one anyway.
“You may need some stitching, but I’ll use some magic to boost your cells, to prevent too many scars, and to prevent you from opening it, again.” Aura took out a need and thread, careful while stitching. Her left hand moved along his torso, glowing a bit white as some of the smaller wounds sealed completely, the others being a bit slower.
Aura smiled at the vampire in thanks, “Hey Stark, nice to see you too.” She looked back at Dex’s body and focused more, her hand glowing brighter at the most terrible injuries, stopping the bleeding. Slowly sewing up the rest of the injuries, making sure Dex felt quite a bit of pain, but not too much. In the end she wrapped his torso completely and securely, now just disinfecting the smaller injuries on his face.
-
“Hey if it isn’t Buffy the Vampire Slayer…slay any demons this morning?”
Dex smiled and let out a soft chuckle. Knowing all too well that Stark would not have been able to do such a thing due to the sun and all. He looked back at Aura, she was right he was like a kid. He didn’t take much seriously even death. He was glad there was someone around that could heal in a magic kinda way it did come in handy.
He watched Aura work over his chest and abdomen, tending to the wounds that had been created. He cringed and groaned each time she stitched him. Even his toes curled at some point as he gritted his teeth. That was the only downside to getting injured the whole patching up thing. He didn’t care about the initial pain or the bleeding but being cleaned up and fixed was like hell for him.
“Thanks for patching this old man up”
Dex said in appreciation as he tried to ignore what was happening. He found relief when he was bandaged up and the pain had discontinued. He sighed and grabbed the packet of cigarettes on his desk pulling one out and lighting it. He took hold of the angels feather, it was completely powerless now but it was beautiful, pure and did come from and angel so there was a protection aspect to it as well. He opened up one of the draws and found some thin leather and began to tie it around the stem and made a necklace out of it. He leaned forward and tied it around Aura’s neck, tying it at the back in several knots
“An angels feather for my savior”
He smiled and gently tapped her under her chin in a playful and affectionate manner.
-
Stark grunted and rolled his eyes. He hated it when Dex called him that. He was not a teenage girl and he would never go about slaying demons in high heels. Stark now remembered why Dex got under his cold pale skin. He watched closely at Aura patching Dex up at least there was someone there that made sure the moron didn’t keel over and die. After all where would they be without him?
Stark’s pale blue eyes scanned over the muscular body still seeing smears of blood. It must have come close to feeding time because Stark was starting to feel that rumble in his stomach that told him that it wasn’t too long until he would need that replenishment. Once Aura had done tending to the injuries, Stark reached into his pocket and pulled out a folded piece of paper and tossed it onto the desk. Someone had called earlier and left a message. Stark had no idea who it was all he knew was that it woke him up and that agitated him.
“Do not even ask because I do not know. All they had said was they were looking for you” Stark said as his eyes kept going back to the smears of blood that tainted Dex’s flesh.
-
Aura smiled at Dex, and giggled a bit at his words. “No problem, plus you aren’t that old in the slightest!” Aura always found it amusing how Dex addressed everyone, even himself. That was one thing she can always count on him for, a joke to brighten the day. No matter how dark or bad their mission was, Dex always made it a bit more bearable at times.
The cursed woman looked at the gift a bit surprised but smiled at Dex, happy at the simple but beautiful gift. “Aw, thank you Dex!” She kissed him on the cheek to show her gratitude. “Though…I may have to drag you out for shopping, I need an outfit to match this lovely necklace.”
Aura saw Stark’s hungry stare and was going to offer him some of her blood when he pulled out the note. This was strange, why would someone call out Dex? The brunette shot Dex a look, wondering what the people wanted.
-
“Alright but as long as we can go into one of those bra and panty shops”
He grinned and rose and dropped his eyebrows. Being perverted was just one of those things that came with his somewhat annoying personality. He saw the note that Stark had dropped on the table and Dex picked it up looking over the fancy “Stark” writing. He immediately scrunched it up and tossed it away. That was the one thing that could make Dex suddenly serious when his father was trying to contact him.
Dex hated his old man. He was only a kid when he had to pull a demon out of his own mother and all his father did was run away. He wasn’t interested in talking to him or trying to “work things out” he had no time for that bullshit. Dex smiled at Aura
“No need to worry honey, just an asshole looking for a way back in”
He reassured her and stood up from the chair and moved around and sat at the desk in front of Stark he held out his arm to the man. Dex could see that Stark was hungry and since it saved anyone else the pain of being bitten and having to deal with being looked at like a piece of meat every second day he offered his own blood to Stark to take.
-
Jospeh Joe Godel slowly step inside with his belt under his vest. He stepped in rubbing his chin and fixing his vest. Jojo breath heavily and walked in to the group then twitch. His left eye twitch again again again. Jojo see the Aura patching Dex up and Dex chatting it up with Stark. He hardly knew these people yet he’s here now.
“Hey.. guys,” his voice is strong but quiet.
Jojo went by Stark and stood there. Twitch twitch twitch. Jojo moved his hair to the side, his hand resting at his side and eyes looking at Dex’s wound. “Hey I can herbs if its needed.”
-
Stark didn’t bother asking who it was that had called he could see it in Dex’s face that it was his father. It was the one thing Dex did not talk about and the one thing that made his very dark brown eyes look almost sad. The vampire watched as Dex moved to sit in front of him. Usually this sort of thing was done in private but from the last time that Stark had drank from Dex it had led to some rather odd things that both had swept under the rug.
Stark pulled Dex’s arm up to his mouth and opened his lips before piercing his wrist with the sharp pointed incisors. He closed his eyes as he felt the blood pool into his mouth and he began to swallow. He would only take enough to last him a couple of days and the process would happen all over again. Once he had enough he pulled back and pressed his thumb into the pointed tooth, making himself bleed and rubbing it over the wounds so they would instantly heal.
He felt so much better and looked up at Dex “Any other activity that we need to made aware of. Since you decided to go it alone on something that could have killed you?”
-
Aura rolled her eyes at his words, though she playfully winked in return.
Soon, however, she became concerned and frowned at Dex a bit before quickly covering it up with a smile. Â Aura knew that everyone in the team had more than a few skeletons in the closet, she wasn’t sure which one of Dex’s was peeking out but either way it was worrying. Who would cause Dex to act such a way in the first place? Aura sneaked a glance at the name and wondered what this guy’s connection to Dex was…
“You know, Stark could always use my blood if he wishes it.” Aura always wanted to help Stark too, but they would never let her. Honestly, Snark was as much of her friend as the other’s, why not? Plus she was sure it would help all of them if Stark had more than one supply of blood, also her curse made her unaffected by most things as well.
Aura smiled at Jojo, “Hey Jojo, I think we got it covered.” He was always quiet, but she didn’t mind, he wasn’t mean or anything. He was actually very good company.
-
“Hey Jojo!”
Dex said rather loudly. They hadn’t known the man very well but Dex wasn’t going to make it one of his missions that Jojo did become part of the family. He looked over the dark haired male and saw his eye twitching
“You ok Jojo?”
He asked as he rubbed over his wrist and stood up going over to the liquor cabinet and grabbing four glasses and some whiskey as he sat down again. He ignored Stark’s question since he knew it was a stab at him for being irresponsible.
Dex opened the bottle and started to pour in the amber liquid and moved each glass in front of his team mates. He had heard what Aura had said about Stark having her blood but he wouldn’t allow it, not after witnessing what Stark sometimes became after he had fed. He was protective over Aura that was something that he couldn’t help. It was just natural for him.
-
Jojo nodded at Aura and smile slightly. He rubbed the back of his head trying to think what to say. Only people he really talked to was his corner men during his boxing days. When Dex metion his twitch he quickly covered his left eye, “Oh nothing nothing.. just cold you know?..”
With Jojo age still being shy like a teen on his first date he felt misplaced. Twitch twitch twitch. The green eye man went to grab a chair and brought it over and sat down with everyone. “Oh umm.. is there anything that needs to be done?” his voice was still soft compare to the other two males in the room. Jojo was probably the toughest maniliest looking guy here but his voice was quiet and soft also his eyes were full of worry but only seen by the people who look.
-
Aura smiled at Jojo’s shyness, she found it absolutely adorable. The man’s heart was definitely in the right place, he just probably found it difficult to express it. She actually watched a few of his matches before and found his ability cool as well. He was a great boxer and person, even if some people thought differently. Though he seems distant to the team, Aura didn’t treat him any differently.
Aura grabbed picked up a glass and drank the liquor slowly as she sat down on a chair beside Jojo, “Hmm, I heard about a few minor cases with a witch coven while on a…job. But that’s all up to Dex.” Aura preferred to separate her three different jobs, two she openly admitted, the third was a secret left for another time, maybe.
