“Gully back off!” Vanaistis says as he presses down on Tomas’ neck more. “As for you. You need to go to sleep.” He flips his sword around and hits Tomas in the head with the hilts of his sword.
-
Gully sits up and pouts “worked when mah ma did it”
Morgan tosses some rope beside Tomas, “I’m going to see if this island has anything useful for supplies captain.”
-
“It sounds like quite the efficient weapon, I think learning how to use it would be a great opportunity after all I mainly know how to protect myself with a knife so being able to use other weapons will be very great.” Asona says cheerfully as she clasps her hands together.
-
Theon nodded, “Yup, its really fun!” He said, turning around to swim further, then stopped at the edge of a cliff, putting an arm out to the side to stop Asona. “We’re here!” He said somewhat excitedly. At the bottom of the cliff, a massive city sprawled across the sea floor. He looked over the city for a long moment, a somewhat melancholy smile appearing on his face for a moment before he glanced at her again with his usual grin, “Alright lets go!” He said, beginning to swim down to the bottom of the cliff, “It might be best to go around or over instead of through, they might be already looking for me.” He murmured the last part.
-
Asona looked down at the city in complete amazement, “wow! It’s so beautiful!!” She says excitedly, “So that’s what a city looks like! That’s a million times better looking than the town I come from!” She says thinking back to how small and crammed her town is as she followed Theon. “Why would that be better?” She says curiously.
-
He glanced backwards at her, “I’m not sure if they are, but people might be looking for me already, and if they found me, it would be annoying.” He said and gave a somewhat cheeky smile, “If we pass through the center of the city, I’d probably be found, but if we go nearer the outskirts it would be harder.” He explained as they reached the outer edge of the suburbs, “Anyway, if we’re going to go all the way to the North Sea, then we’ll be passing though plenty of cities.” He said, swimming slower at a more casual pace, “I hear there’s a really beautiful city off the coast of Marseilles… Ah~ I want to go to France!”
-
Asona looked at Theon with a bit of worry, “Uh..why are people looking for you if you don’t mind me asking.” She says following him, matching up to his pace. “Hm..I don’t think I ever heard of those places before either, I guess there’s still a lot of places in this world I have yet to travel to.” Asona says thinking of how much more places she’ll be able to travel to and the stories she would tell her family when she decides to visit her home.
-
Theon glanced back at her and cocked his head slightly at her worried expression, raising an eyebrow, “It’s nothing serious, I just left,” He said and shrugged, “There are people who probably want me back, but I’ve got better things to do so I’m not gonna be going any time soon.” He said, then chuckled a little, “I’m sure you’ve been to a lot of cool places! You came all the way from the Pacific, right? That means you had to swim through the Indian Ocean, right? I’ve never been there before, only places around the Atlantic and a lot of those places were boring.” He said, swimming closer to the sea floor to collect oysters for their pearls and other possibly valuable rocks.
-
Asona looked at Theon and gave a cheerful smile, “Oh yes, I’ve been to many interesting and fascinating and beautiful places and have met plenty of wonderful and well horrible people along the way. I’m trying to gather lots of amazing stories to encourage the people of my town to explore the world as well.” she says as she follows him down to the sea floor.
-
Morgan makes a circit of the island before returning to Vanaistis, “some fruit and a river of clean water captain, little else.”
-
Theon nodded, continuing to pick up and examine rocks and oysters, trying to appraise their value, “Yeah, that seems about right for a backwater town in the middle of the Pacific.” He said somewhat dully, then turned toward Asona, “Here, take these,” He said, giving her an armful of oysters, “Shell them for pearls, we’ll sell them to sailors and merchants, they don’t know the value of these things so we can get a little more than selling them to merpeople.” He explained, returning to collecting things from the sea floor.
-
“Okay.” Asona says as she begins opening some of the oysters, “What do you plan on getting with selling pearls anyway? I never knew they were so valuable on land” Asona asks curiously not really knowing how valuable pearls were despite wearing some on her head.
-
“I need to buy a harpoon, remember?” Said Theon, “I’d like to spend as little time as possible without a weapon and didn’t think to bring it before I left.” He said, looking over the haul in his arms with a small nod of approval, “The thing is, land people, they can’t easily get pearls, because of that the value is inflated for them. A lot of mermaids dislike land people on principle, especially the old money families that go back generations who own oyster fields. Some of them refuse to sell to air-breathers all together, other’s artificially increase the value for them because they hold the monopoly.” He explained, resting against a rock and beginning to pry some of the oysters open, “Because of that, if we offer prices halfway reasonable for the type of less than quality pearls from here, we’ll turn a good profit.”
-
Vanaistis looks to Morgan and nods. “Get some more men and get some of the water and fruit.”
-
Morgan nods, he signals to the ship and in short order another boat with barrels and men is lowered and sent to the island.
