After the Death of the second King of Pirates, the balance was overturned and Marines took over the seas. The Yonkou were all destroyed and once the Shichibukai had performed their use, were executed as well. Once the powers were out of their way, they seized full controls of the ocean and slaughtered all those who would commit crimes on the sea for fear of a new coming. Fleet Admiral Nomikomu will see to it that Pirates are erased from existence.

-Axel was in the middle of eating a large leg of chicken when he looked over and saw the male so Axel sighed shaking his head at the male wondering why his luck was horrid this evening. He turned and rose to his feet before walking towards him” you will leave here and tell no one of seeing me and by morning I will be gone and nothing will be out of place, I have came to this island for sanctuary while I plan my next step to get past the marines and into the grandline. Axel put his right hand behind his back and decided to use that ability that he had been keeping to himself if this human decided to cause problem. Axel began to move his fingers to his palm and then stretching them out then moving them back in as he pulled the liquid out of the air. He then dipped the tips of his fingers in the water puddle that was pooling into his palm. His sand paper like skin made the water droplets stick to his skin so his attack was prepared and at this distance it would be hard to block unless this male was super fast.-

“I will not leave my training grounds when there is a stranger in the lands,” He did remove his hand from his blade as a sign of good faith as it seemed he felt the words were true. He stared right into the fishman’s eyes, seeming to connect to something he said and proceeded to comment, “I understand your need for sanctuary to a point. Still, I do not see the full reason.” He crossed his arms over his chest and glanced upon him. His own experiences led him here once himself, seeking sanctuary for a crime he hadn’t committed and built a new life here dedicated to his swordsmanship. He still spoke on what urked on his mind, “What is your reason for getting past them? You do not look like a pirate.”
He took a step forward and examined the shark further, his mind urging him to be cautious. He thought of him just as another fishman but the thrill of being near a shark was all too enticing. He wanted to touch the magnificent being and see what the flesh of a real predator truly felt like. He wanted to fight, but his urge to keep the peace was stronger. He flicked his eyes around to make sure there was none around before attempting to get closer, this time with no words to hide his movement.

“One Devil Fruit User can cause that much damage?” Carina asked with surprise when the admiral came in and spoke about the tremors. She had assumed that they were having a series of earthquakes so the news that a single person could have a force exceeding that of a natural disaster came as a surprise. I wonder how long someone has to train to get like that….
Then the admiral began to ask for more details on who she was, and what she could do. He had a look of worry in his eyes as he glanced over at her injuries as though something wasn’t quite right. Her wounds were light, maybe too light but she didn’t really understand why something like that would concern the admiral. Did he think she was a spy planted by Jango? Or that she had gotten a jump on the Rear Admiral? Carina wasn’t entirely sure what the admiral wanted from her but decided to respond as truthfully as possible. She wouldn’t lie unless there was something clear to gain and she had evidence to back it up. Applicable to what?
“Hmmn… killing or capturing pirates alive is my main skill, sir. I also have medical knowledge. I’m…” Carina paused for a moment, a trace of embarrassment crossing her face, “actually studying under the nurses and physicians here on normal days. It’s useful knowledge for my Devil Fruit so I just ended up training to be a ship’s medic.” And don’t think they won’t give me hell for freaking out about getting stitches, later. I just hope I didn’t say anything weird that they can use against me while I was out.
“Otherwise, I don’t have any other applicable skills except then I learn pretty quickly and I’m adaptable.” She jolted slightly as the table she was sitting on slanted and shook during a particularly strong tremor.
“Well until he kicked me in the shin and tried to bash my head in with a mop and a shovel,” Carina remarked and then decided to become more serious since such a weird question suggested that the admiral wanted a serious answer, “Rear Admiral Jango was giving me an interview at the request of one of his friends who had just arrived on the base. He was respectful but concerned during the whole process and then the alarms went off. He told me that he once had been a pirate, and now the past was catching up to him.” Carina paused for a moment, “I kind of expected him to try using me as a hostage or something, but he wanted a fight.”
Her face creased into a serious frown, “It’s weird…he probably could have killed me and escaped if he wanted to, or asked me for a cleaner death if he just wanted to die. I think he wanted to die fighting, but didn’t want to live a life on the run.” Carina tilted her head back slightly to think about whether she had any more information to give the admiral when she remembered something important. Her eyes widened with realization and she glanced warily at the admiral, wondering whether she should tell him about the second of Jango’s requests or not. Jango hadn’t been clear about whether her message was supposed to be kept a secret or not, and she wasn’t sure whether the admiral would try and take the small slip of paper still secreted in her pants’ pocket. There wasn’t really a way of casually mentioning the vice admiral’s name either that she could think of without it sounding incredibly suspicious. Well, here goes nothing.
“Umn, he was a bit concerned about Vice Admiral Koby though. He was asking me to check up on him when the alarm sounded.”
-
The admiral was admiring her abilities and the fact she went to an odd angle of training in order to achieve to better herself. It was impressive and though he took her pirate capturing skills as a white lie and smirked. Then as she spoke about Jango, he did smile at her joking. Listening intently, he took in every word despite his off track mind. Then the secondary piece of information was given. He smiled a bit and nodded, as he looked around, waiting for one of the nurses to pass by before he leaned in and whispered to her, “If he was so concerned, we will go to Coby once you are healed.” He then sat with his back straight back up and cracked his spine in several places.
After letting out a groan of how good that felt, he decided to continue their interview for now but spoke in concern first, “Let me know if you wish to sleep, you are injured after all.” He then thought of what to ask next and decided on, “How do your co-workers feel about you as a person? Also do they react negatively to your special abilities?” He would wait for the answer, this time fully focused and after the answer, would ask the next, “In comparison to others that have special abilities, how do you foresee your growth in attaining higher power from your specific type? How else other than your medical training have you been progressing your abilities? Since Jango stood through it, how does it work?”
-
The injured marine nodded at the admiral’s request to bring her to Vice Admiral Coby. She didn’t know if the admiral was on to her or not, but one way or another she’d get the secret message to him. Carina had no clue what Jango’s dying message was, nor why Coby would need to see it of all things. The fact that she was delivering messages for a confirmed ex-pirate was concerning, but it was Jango’s last request so she needed to make the effort.
Then, the admiral continued with his questions. “Thank you, sir. I can stay awake long enough to answer your questions or take care of anything urgent, though.” She hoped to stay awake long enough to get to eat a proper dinner instead of whatever snacks they had on reserve in the medical ward. Otherwise, she’d wake up positively starving.
“How they feel about me as a person? Hmnn, I couldn’t say for sure. They either like me because I’m useful and trying too hard or they hate me because I’m useful, dangerous and trying too hard. My associates at the clinic like me while the other Seaman Apprentices don’t. Not really an in-between option here. I’ve got a Devil Fruit and on top of that I’m the daughter of an infamous pirate, so I’m not going to win a popularity contest any time soon.” She continued onto the next question, “Well, others are either afraid or respectful of my special abilities. Again, no in-between option. On the one hand, I can refill supplies, clean floors pretty quickly…make alcohol… and other practical applications.” She admitted the alcohol part a little reluctantly, as the ability to make alcohol could be (and on occasion had been) misused by fellow seaman dissatisfied with their current alcohol ration and desperate enough to trust her.
“On the other hand though, I could probably kill someone in the nastiest ways with a handshake and not have them figure out until several hours later. Skills like that make people understandably nervous.” Carina shrugged, “It seems worse to hide what I can do, though.”
“Well, I don’t have much more than stories to use to compare myself to other people with special abilities,” Carina began as she assumed that the admiral meant her Devil Fruit powers, “but umn… I’m interested in seeing just how far I can go with these powers! It’s a little difficult to safely practice with. In addition to studying, I’ve been practicing either in abandoned rooms or in a few controlled fights. Practicing fights used to be a pain when I was just starting, and even now not many people will help me practice without a medical team standing by. That fight was the first one where I’ve had to use lethal force, but just in that fight alone, I’ve already gotten some ideas. I need to learn how to make more poison at a time then I currently can, then maybe I can try to practice controlling it.”
Her thoughts went to the few rumors she had heard about Magellan when he was asking her to make some comparison and she inwardly grimaced. Is he comparing me to Vice Warden Magellan? Because if I have to choose between having multiple rooms’ worth of incredibly potent poison and not having ten hour long diarrhea… Wow, the man was really dedicated.
“I think my abilities are more…” She paused trying to explain how knowledge and abilities she was using by a mixture of instinct and reflex worked. “uhh, well compared to Magellan more gas than goop. It’s easier for me to make toxic gas than to secrete a lot of liquid poison at once. I haven’t practiced it as much because that can be dangerous, and I get a bit dehydrated doing that after a certain point. I guess I’ve been focusing on diversity of poisons over quantity.” It was a bit of a relief to be able to talk to someone who seemed genuinely interested on her discoveries about her abilities and the current extent of her powers.
“I seem to be able to make any type of toxin I want to as long as it naturally comes from some kind of animal, and that’s why medical training was so important. I had to either taste a sample of a known poison or use repeated experiments to identify which poison is which by it’s effects. Interestingly enough, no matter what type of poison I make it always come out in some shade of purple. Now I’ve gotten to the point where I’m pretty precise about which one I’m using so I’d like to try combining poisons sometime. Like you mentioned, Jango stood through it because it’s hard to find one single poison that does everything.” She took a breath, it had been a while since she had ever talked this long but she was more than just a little proud of her Devil Fruit.
“If I had to classify poisons, I would divide them into categories of permeability, lethality and speed. Acid is corrosive and goes through almost everything quickly, but one touch doesn’t normally kill someone unless it lands on a vital organ or something. The neurotoxin I was using was able to penetrate through skin and was lethal as long as you get hit with enough, but it didn’t act very quickly. It’s a bit dosage dependent and I haven’t tested my really lethal stuff on humans so… mistakes happen? I’m hoping that combining poisons will make them a bit more dangerous. Eating poisonous or toxic things makes my poisons stronger, and if I eat an unnatural poison then I can make that type for a day as well… but it also makes me really sick.”
Carina then stopped to take a breath, “Sorry, sir if I started to ramble there. I haven’t really talked to anybody about my Devil Fruit before. Umn… I can make multiple types, I’d like to practice combining them and I’d also like to practice controlling poison I’ve already made. I’ve heard of some crazy things other ability users can do. ”

The admiral let each word place an equal in his head as he was studying this young one. The diverse nature in which she said others reacted to her were so far on the ends of the spectrum, as to be expected of someone who could eventually rise to power. This put to his mind those who had led before and the one currently leading. There had always been those on either end of the spectrum but their current, there was only one end. He was careful to think of the balance, how those who don’t seem to know her are the ones tipping the scale. This would change.
The mention of being related to an infamous pirate, usually would mean the child is tainted as well. Yet he saw before her a pure ambitious girl willing to kill even those who are much stronger than her to proceed in the path of justice. Even if some of her talents with her abilities were not quite lawful, at least it was something the men would enjoy. The other abilities proved to be much of use, bringing him a smile to the contents of how they could possibly grow and assist her later in life. Her lack of comparison much more to another previous was a bit of a statement on her history, she had much to learn.
When she spoke of how her powers affected herself, he knew with growing power she would face less of that issue. He thought in his mind of items that could be forged to alleviate the consequences of her abilities in order to raise more quickly. He also began to list things in his head that she could eat that would help her with her potency. All of this added into where he was deciding upon her promotion to take her. Too high, and she would become a target among her peers. Too low, and she wouldn’t be of use with her talents.
“I have come to a decision,” He rose as she spoke the final words from her mouth. He took a firm breath as his stance spoke of his ready eagerness to tell her. “You will be joining my division as a part of your promotion. You will be a Warrant Officer under me. Now rest, my ship will leave when you are ready and will be headed out to the Grand Line.” He strode from the medical ward and began to head to the offices despite the shaking grounds, preparing his mind for the menial paperwork required for her advancement.

-Axel saw the man loosening his grip on his blade so Axel in turn let both hinds fall to his sides” I am hunted by the marines for being what I am, I am a pirate of the sun pirates, a group of fishman who stand up against the oppression that the fleet admiral has forced upon us since the death of the king. I plan to evade the marines and head into the desert country in search of the one known as crocdile so I can begin to learn how to beat his yami yami no me, which is a devil fruit that uses darkness”. He watched as the male got closer but he would stand his ground” I am hunted by a vice admiral for he helped slay the king after the king justly saved him. I hunted because I spoke of this truth and upset his brittle little feelings it seems”. He noticed him get even closer so he bared his teeth” any closer and I will take it as you readying yourself for death as I will all but need to stretch out and break your neck, for I have few allies but many enemies and you have not proved yourself an ally so till this time comes to pass you are but my enemy”.-
-
The swordsman took his words and let them fall upon his ears, siphoning every bit of the information. He was unfamiliar with the sun pirates, only knowing that Fishmen and Merfolk visited every now and again to this place. Despite the knowledge now of this man’s piracy, it did not bother him. Anyone who’d act out with a displeasing nature to a marine officer could be marked as a pirate. He spoke of the devil fruits and learning to fight them which intrigued him. Then the barred teeth and he raised his hands to the air in submission as he took a step back. “Please excuse my curiosities,” The male spoke with diction to Axel, “I have never seen a shark of a fish man before and your skin had me curious. I was always told the skin of a shark is like sand. I will assure you I meant no danger to the king of all predators.” He lowered his hands then and thought for a mere moment.
The swordsman lowered his eyes for only a split second before he gazed back to the sharks, blurting out, “Why not stay in town?” He would not wait for the man to respond, “You may stay in my home unless you trust out here more than that of a helpful serf?” He was attempting to appeal to the animalistic side, attempting to show the shark he was dominant. If this was not appealing, he’d leave the shark to his doing. He even turned his back to the shark, showing trust as he took a step away. He would either lead him home or walk alone.
-
She was bent over looking into the basement when she heard the sand devil behind her and she bounced up and landed behind the tremor and looked to him. “What does it look like I’m doing captain I’m searching the homes for people I’m also collecting what posessions of theres I can so I can return them to them so that they are not starting over from scratch if the buildings collapse. If you want I will turn what I have taken over a long with the list of what belongs to which house if you have any problems with me trying to protect these people and their lively hood. Unless you want the Marines paying out of their pocket which means out of ours to compensate these people there losses.” She stood tall before her captain though shorter than him and bouncing over the Tremors that where coming through.”And can we do this outside the house I really dont want to get flattened under abunch of stone and wood.”
-
The Sand Devil glared at the marine and bared his teeth to her. He would carefully step forward through the tremors and would speak to her, “I will cover the other houses. First, I will see you back to the marine base. You will return all the items to their owners and take no more. Beli can always be dug up, I have the strength to do so.” He was not going to budge from the house. “Besides, I am more than willing to pay out of my own pocket. I was put in charge here so they are my people. All deaths are on me. You are simply one of my men. If you refused to follow orders, you will be killed for their items if you do not hand them over. If you do, then you may leave once they have assured that they are all of theirs. Choose wisely, I am not a patient man.” He growled through his teeth almost like a menacing tiger, yet he was clearly a large and angry shark with slit pupils and multiple rows of hungry teeth.
-
As she waited for his responce she continued to bounce hearing his growl she didn’t seem to be phased or scared though most should be. “I told you I was going to return them I may just be one of your men but I take pride in what I do. Take the rest of the houses and I will return it as i siad i was keeping a list so I could. The fact you dont trust me makes me question your trust in your men… Oh but wait I’m not a man am I?” she stared at him for several moments. “I offered it to you to return which meant I was going to return it either way. Me collecting it saves you time and money but hey label me what you want. I have served you for the past 5 years without question or incident and now you think I would jeprodise it all over enough bil to buy maybe 2 packs of bubblegum. You want to finish this I will be back at base waiting for you handing people back their safeguarded property.” She then looked to one of the shattered window and as a tremor rolled up behind her she used its force to launch out the window and landed behind it and continued to jump from tremor to tremor heading back to the base once there she looked to the Marines. “Take me to the infermery. I need to place things with the injured’s personal effects. For my peace of mind would you watch me make sure I am leaving everything I have on my list.” Though everything on the list was just what was visible and she handed it to him.”This is what I have recovered for these people.” she looked at the Marine someone she had served with but she had a feeling they all questioned her.
-
The Sand Devil sighed, a disobeyed order. He began to go to the other houses and carry as many as he could safely from there to the base across the tremors. He was back and forth from here to there. At the base, the marines she encountered looked her over and nodded, leading her to the personal effects locker and letting her place the items and the list on the table. The Sand Devil would return shortly and finish propagating everything and would come up to the list and think as he placed himself in the doorframe to keep her from leaving. He was a harsh man but he did have a heart. He kept the feeling that she was stealing and more wanted to punish her for not listening to orders. He would wait until she was finished with the items and then he’d say, “Your rank is nullified… You will take only what you have on you and leave. I will grant you a small boat and no more…” He snarled at her, showing his teeth, “Let this be a lesson to never disobey an order…”
-
She was just chatting with the marine as she made sure that they saw her place the cash in the locker and the list on the table. “Oh and I am going to dispurse 250k from my own pocket into this locker make sure it is spread between the towns survivors.” she then placed it on the top shelf. She finished placing the last bit of money she was going to put in with everything in the locker and turned looking to her captain then heard his words her eyes grew large and she gripped her fists as her eyes shut her head turing away. This was not only a punishment but public humiliation as he was doing it in fornt of the other men and the town this felt more like an exicution then a punishment she then turned and looked back to him.”Then I dont have to address you as captain anymore do I?” she asked him and then conitnued on ” And form what i can tell you dont really like me for many reasons I can imagine. A I am a female and was on your crew bad luck and all that. B I have a devil fruit and you dont like that. C and this is the biggest one you dont like me because I’m human. Now I have done nothing but follow your orders you told me i could go save them and i did and i saved their property, its all there pluse a little extra from my own pocket. Roughly about 250K from my own pocket since you did say you would help them out of yours figured I would follow your lead and help this town more than we do. Fine Once this has passed Take me to my ship and let me go.” She shook her head she seemed angry but also hurt as she had poured her life into this and had busted her ass for him and just because people felt like turning against her she was stripped of rank and sent out to sea.”Confine me to my quarters I will wait there or do you want me right here where people can stare at me?” She asked out of anger.
-
The Sand Devil shook his head to her and replied in a softer tone, “I have had women in my crew before. All of them obeyed orders when they were given instead of running off like a guilty rodent. I admire humans who have the devil fruits, they give you all powers that can stand up to our natural abilities. As for being human, I hold that not against you, just the malice you showed towards orders and instead of following them, breaking off to bite off more than you can chew.” He cracked his neck and let out a light sigh, “You can stay where you will, and since you’d never asked just like everyone else… I won’t even give you the honor of my name…” He left her to do what she willed then, hoping his men would choose something for her to do. He was frustrated and headed out into the city, it was starting to shake enough that he too was having trouble standing. He clenched his fists and went to the pet shop, deciding to stay there. He caught the roof before it would fall on the dog who owned it. He leaned down while holding it and pet the dog, who wagged its tail.
The marines around her looked at one another and one finally said, “He’s all teeth and no bite, go home and when the tremors stop, perhaps he’ll be calmer.” They gave her a smile and then said, “besides, he didn’t even do the paper work to dismiss you.”
-
When the admiral took a breath before he announced his decision, Carina looked up, eyes wide with anticipation and excitement to hear his response. Her face split into an enormous smile at the verdict passed down, “YEESSSS!” She shouted happily with excitement before remembering where she was and who she was speaking to. “I mean, aye-aye, sir!” Nothing in the East Blue could have wiped the grin off of her face. She gave a salute as the man strode away. Despite the tremors, he didn’t stumble at all as the marine left the medical ward.
Once he left, she went to talk to the head nurse to tell him that she was leaving and then rushed off to go pack up her important personal affects. She was finally going to visit the Grand Line! Working as a marine recruit and apprentice hadn’t always been easy, but all of the torment was worth it for this moment! She had a good commanding officer who recognized her talents, was heading off to the Grand Line and had a promotion to boot! Carina forced herself to slow her pace when she realized that she was overexerting herself just a bit.
When she got to her room, none of her bunkmates were present since they were likely off in the middle of drills or training. Carina decided to take this opportunity to pack without having to worry about annoying her fellow apprentices with the inevitable mess of clothes, books, her emergency medical kit, her weapon maintenance kits and everything else she’d need to be taking with her. The young marine hummed to herself a sea shanty popular with the recruits while she packed away her equipment and books, leaving only her clothes, journal and toiletries left.
As she reached for her spare uniform, Carina realized something. Warrant officers were exempt from having to wear the standard sailor uniform. She paused and then decided to spread out her clothes and examine them critically. She wanted to be off and sailing on the great blue sea as soon as possible, and there simply wasn’t time to go shopping or request new clothes so she’d have to make do with what she had. Still, she was an officer now and it was possible to start showing her own sense of style! Carina huffed for a moment and then locked the door to the bunk and decided to try out the few civilian outfits she possessed for weekend trips to Loguetown.
To her chagrin, Carina realized that by “few” she had exactly three civilian clothes: one for Friday night, one for Saturday and one for Sunday. Although she was fond of the navy blouse with a white collar and her blue and white hoodie, Carina decided that for her first time aboard a ship she’d rather wear the traditional uniform which she was more comfortable in. At least until she practiced fighting and maneuvering in the other clothes. With that settled, Carina packed up the rest of her clothes and then headed off to the mess hall to get a good meal after that long fight. The men were noticeably more nervous around her when she came to get her food this time around, but one or two of them began clapping to congratulate her on defeating the treacherous Rear Admiral.
Carina blushed slightly with pleasure at the praise even though the few people clapping made the fact that the majority of marine soldiers weren’t clapping more apparent. She sat with them and exchanged her farewells, explaining her new position and how she would soon be setting sail. Her bunkmate came in with a her meal and made sure to tell the whole table all about how thankful she was that Carina would finally be gone. Carina just laughed, not caring at all. “Well, I can’t wait to leave either. You leave crumbs in the room and never do your laundry,” Carina retorted in a joking manner, “it’s been what, three weeks now? And people think I’m the biohazard…” The rest of the meal was spent in joyful laughter as she celebrated her last night with the few people at the base she actually got along with.
Once she finished eating, Carina headed back to her room and wrote out the day’s events in her journal. She made sure to detail what had happened between her and Jango, and the subsequent conversation she had with her new commanding officer. She even wrote some small notes to herself about her ideas for new combat techniques before closing the leather-bound cover shut and settled down for an early sleep.”Grand Line, here I come!” She called out to absolutely no one but still feeling the need to make some kind of a statement. At long last, she was making her dream a reality!
There was no need to set an alarm, since she was certain that the early morning role call for the seamen would wake her up in time. The sooner she got some rest, the sooner she’d be able to leave and start her grand adventure! With such an exciting day ahead of her, it was difficult for Carina to fall asleep. The girl tossed and turned, jittery with anticipation before she eventually passed out and then woke up the next day.
