The cold ones
At the end of a disaster that wiped out nearly all of mankind, two species emerge from the shadows, one of fire, the other of ice. They they have begun a conversion of the remaining humans, creating the firekin and the cold ones. These humans-turned-nonhumans are even greater than their creators, but have been caught up in the war just the same. One, the great Enigma, is on a quest to stop the war by taking as many humans, firekin, and cold ones as she can and teaching them to live,fight, and hope together. She hunts those who are broken and afraid, and she takes them, whether they like it or not. You live in this world, and you are trying to survive….

Din chuckled he knew he was spotted but it was still entertaining he respond, “relax I’m comin,” he steps out of the bushes, “you sure you’re alright up there,” Din says as he laughs once more. He then gets serious and asks, “so, was he one of yours?” Din points to the area where the fight happened as he asks, it was unlikely but there had been stranger cases, plus if so he could gain money by offering to rescue the captured firekin.

Eni sighed, opening the door and stepping in, setting Nuri on the couch and walking over to the closet she had stuffed with blankets. She pulled the one that had soaked the cold water off him, and then dropped three more on top of him. “There. See? Why would I bother carrying around a dead body? He would be no help if he was dead.” she called out the open door. “Now, please, either show yourself or leave….” she requested.

Gekido sees that the girl is helping the firekin so he calms down ” who or what are you? ” he says still trying to figure out if he should come out from hiding or not.

“My name is Eni…..You may also know me as the Enigma if you were turned or born in the past 50 years.” she answered warily.

” what are you? ” Gekido says feeling safer now that he knows her name.

Eni smiled from inside the house, not a nice smile but a dark one that spoke of secrets and lives lost. “Ah! But where would the fun be if I told you everything about myself?” she asked softly, giving no evidence of malice or lies or anything her smile had shown.

She watched him with blazing eyes though her shoulders relaxed upon his light laughter, though she frowned at his question and soon followed laugh. “Oh, stop patronizing me…And no, he’s not one of my kin…Just an unfortunate soul who got caught by whatever that thing was.” She crossed her arms, seeming to brood for a moment. “But what do you suppose she wanted with him? I think maybe she’s aligned with the cold-ones, that washed-out race would summon some great demi-god or demoness to do their bidding.” She sighed a breath of gold sparks, wearily closing her eyes.

” If I come out will you hurt me? ” Gekido asked a little bit more calm but his gloves are still glowing red hot

Eni snorted with laughter. “Will I– NO!”

“Well, this dipshit might, normally, but right now I think you’re fine.” she answered, smirking. A lot of the survivors and pure bred nonhumans were like this. Fear ruled them in one way or another. The smirk dropped off her face, replaced with a look of cold fury. When the demon gods had tried to take her, both fire and flame, when she didn’t die from the change, but rather awoke, her hair bleached white and her eyes liquid gold, she had taken it as a sign. She was meant to do something with this new world, and she had decided to shape it. She would end the war, with its pointless slaughter and desecration of free will…..even if it meant gathering an army.

Xander ran off, laughing at himself. He had been hungry, so hungry. He committed on of the worst crimes; he tried to rationalize using his powers for theft. He had encountered a group of firekin, a bunch of thugs at that. It wasn’t that he didn’t like firekin, but rather that they were just cruel people.
They would go around, and like common thugs do, just randomly harass people and mug them. He had enough of watching them, so he shape shifted into one of them, perhaps and older sister he had seen once with them. They mistook him for so long, he had even eaten one or two meals with them. He tried to equalize his guilty pleasure by stopping them from hurting anyone. He had been so careful, duplicating every strand of hair and even the warm colored eyes they had, but he had been caught.
He ran until his legs gave, but he escaped. His disguise wore off, and just then he tried the door. I feel a unique presence here, perhaps it’s benevolent, he thought to himself. He was covered in bruises, and even though his clothes were clean, he felt so dirty.

Eni glanced up at the door, smiling wryly. “It seems I’m quite popular today.” she says, standing and brushing her legs off. “And who might you be?”

Xander tenses up, “I’m Xander. I lost my way here, and it might rain soon. You’ve just seen my power. If you need me to do anything, I’ll be glad, as long as I can stay dry. There’s just something in the air, yes, It feels like rain.”

Gekido comes out from behind a tree and starts to walk towards the house he then sees the cold one and flares up and reaches for his sword and you immediately see the sword start glowing white hot.
