Demetrius woke up sore and cramped in his little hiding spot, but he slept better than he had in months. At home, he was always on alert in case their colony came under attack, whether from beast or from the elemental demons that now roamed the world. Even though his sleep was deep, he was plagued with strange dreams. One in particular lingered in his mind. It made him remember a map he paid dearly for.
A strange man had been traveling and found himself in the colony Demetrius lived in. He came with offers of rare goods to sell to the common people trying to live among the changing world. There had been rumors spreading for years about an old scientist who had brought his experiments to the brink of insanity. He was spurting nonsense about immunizations to changing into an elemental kind and cures for when you have just been turned. No one believed him, and he was cast out of society. The scientist gladly hid away and continued his work. No one was able to find him…until this strange man came along.
He claimed to have stumbled upon this scientist and found out where he stayed. When he came to the colony, he had a map. Demetrius ended up talking to the man and was told about this map. Demetrius thought it was rubbish, but deep down he couldn’t shake the feeling that this map may come in handy. The man wanted a lot for the map, and Demetrius had to give up a lot of the colony’s goods to get the map, but he bought it and kept it with him.
He took the map out of his bag, still nestled in his hiding place. He looked it over and found his location and compared it to where this mad scientist supposedly lived. He wasn’t too far away. Demetrius thought for a moment. This could be some sort of trap. The man could have made up the whole thing to trick him into giving away goods. It didn’t really matter now. He had nothing to lose at this point. Demetrius wolfed down some jerky he had with him and filled up on water and then set out to follow the map.
He walked for hours among bare fields. The more he traveled, the more he was losing faith in this map. He kept fighting the urge to just give up and go his own way. This map was leading him away from known sources of food and water. After a while he finally reached the point on the map where this scientist was supposed to be hidden, but there was nothing. Just more dying grass and dirt spread over the land. Demetrius sat down in the middle of the dirt and buried his face into his arms. “I should have known it was a waste” he said, defeated.
He suddenly felt something sting his neck. A bug, he assumed, until he started to feel woozy. Darkness overcame him and he was out cold. When he finally came to, his arms and feet were restrained and tied on a table, and an old man was standing before him.

“I dont need a horse” he says…”Keep up” he says…bossy, little, noisy, prat… Jogging after him, she jumps up onto his ice platform. Forming a small sleigh of ice she takes a seat down and lets it do all the work for her. Putting a little more power into the runners she takes off until it becomes level to Isen, keeping pace with him. “So infant, how much of a head start do you estimate that he’s got on us?”

He teleported when I was there right, that was late morning, lets say he took a couple of hours to get himself sorted he would’ve left by about 1pm. This means he has at least 15 Hours on us if not more with those damned teleporters.

Those are going to be our main problem.

“So basically we are on a wild goose chase.” She moans. “A human with fing teleportation skills. Oh great.” But wait. He only seemed to have one “Hey Infant! I dont think that he has any of those teleporters left. He only had one or two. Or so it seemed…”

“Where am I?” Demetrius asked, still groggy from the drugs that were injected into him. The old man continued to stare at him for a few moments before saying, “You are safe in my lab for now, young man”. He then turned to play around with a few vials of liquid, some that looked like they were filled with blood. Demetrius closed his eyes and thought: This was probably a big mistake.
The old man went over to a computer with the vials of blood and placed them within a machine besides his monitor. Once they were inserted inside the machine, the old man starting frantically typing and reading over everything that popped up on his screen. After a few minutes the old man walked over and said, “Your blood has high amounts of silicon dioxide in it. Teleporting around, I see? I’m surprised to see you’re still in one piece. My name is Dr. Nathaniel Brown. You seem to be in a bit of trouble with the Cold Ones, and you came to me for help. You must really be desperate.”
Demetrius looked shocked. How could the man possibly know that the cold ones were after him and that he was specifically looking for this scientist? His head hurt, and he still couldn’t really think straight. Dr. Brown continued, “I have eyes all over the place, young man. I saw your encounter with them. I hate to tell you that I have not figured out a full immunity to being turned and as for a cure after they are turned…” he turned and looked down towards a certain spot on the floor, “I sadly have not perfected that either.” Demetrius looked over where the scientist looked and saw dead bodies of cold ones and firekin. He jumped and pulled at his restraints, “What are you doing down here!?” he yelled.
“Don’t fight, it will only tighten the belts and make them more uncomfortable for you. I’m sure you’ve heard all the rumors about me that spread around this God-forsaken world. I can offer you one thing, but it will rob you of most of your humanity that you seem to be holding onto so dearly.” Dr Brown said, playing with a few instruments on a table next to Demetrius. “My humanity is all I have left” Demetrius said.
“Well, you’re going to lose it one way or another. You made that one female very angry. With this operation, I can give you a chance against being turned. Don’t get me wrong, they may still be able to turn whatever is left of yourself after this, but it will be much harder for them. Take it or leave it. It’s all I have to offer to you.”
Demetrius thought for a moment. He really didn’t have many options. He was limited with what he could do just as a mere man. “What are you going to do to me?” he asked.
“Don’t worry; I’ve performed many surgeries like this before. Not to the extreme that I plan with you, but enough that I know what I’m doing. You’re better off not knowing the details, young man.” Dr. Brown replied.
“Fine” Demetrius said, “I put my life in your hands, doctor.” Dr. Brown grabbed a syringe and plunged it into Demetrius’ arm. He fell back into a deep sleep…

*The house is far more homely than he expected, far more lived in and far more quaint. A pang of nostalgia gnaws at Isen but he dismisses it.*

Let me do the talking and if you do try to speak try not to be offensive. We are the monsters to her, remember that.

Hmmm the kids got a point. I probably would just kill her. “Fine.” She tells him grumpily. Stomping up to the door she knocks gently just barely scraping off the paint from the frame.
*Knock, knock, knock, knock.* One, two, three, four.
“Go.” She tells Isen pushing him in front of her. “You said you wanted to talk.”

*he looks at her with a scowl and turns to the door. Knock, knock, knock.* Hello? *knock, knock, knock* We’re here to ask you some questions. *knock, knock, knock*

Lilly, Demetrius’ mother, heard a knock on her door. She imagined it was Kane coming to check on her. He and Demetrius were so close. She still couldn’t believe he was gone. It all happened so suddenly. She knew the day would eventually come, but she still wasn’t prepared.

Kane knew it was okay to just come in though. She had been having many people come to visit her since he left. It must just be someone else coming to try and keep her mind occupied from the swelling sadness.

She wheeled herself over to the door and opened it. Shock and fear overcame her when she saw who awaited her on the other side…

*Isen smiles* Mrs Hughes, is it alright for us to come in? We won’t take too much of your time up.

Lilly could feel the cold emanating off of these two. They looked almost as though they were made of ice. One of these two had to be the one who was hunting down her son. If they found out where he used to live, they probably had a good chance at finding him wherever he decided to go. She tried not to worry too much. Her son was smart.

“Does it matter what I say? I’m sure you’ll do as you please either way” she said. She wheeled herself over into her living room next to the couch and some chairs.

“If you’re looking for my son, he is no longer here and will not be returning.”

*Isen’s smile grows wider. She’s straight to the point, this’ll makes things a lot easier. Ava then speaks and Isen’s hopes start fading. He moves further into the house and looks apologetically at the Woman* Sorry about my friend. She’s a little impatient. *he realises the obligation in Mrs Hughes moving towards the chairs* If you don’t mind I’d rather stand though. *He now takes more time to breathe in the room, The Devil is in the Details he looks around his mind whirring. Trying to pick up a clue to where Demetrius has gone, in order to fill the space he begins asking useless questions* You’re right we are looking for your son. I want to assure you we wish no harm upon him or yourself but I know you just want us gone so I’ll get to it – Do you have any idea where he’s gone?

Lilly glared at the girl. “You must be the one who is so determined to find him” she said. She then turned to the man, “You can question me all day and night, but he did not tell me where he was going. Demetrius is a smart man who is trying to keep himself alive. I’m sure he assumed you’d come looking for him here. He took his belongings and left. Thanks to your kind and your world-destroying war, I’ll never see my son again.”

*Isen lowers himself till he is eye-level with the Lady he moves in closer as he speaks* I came into this world with barely even the clothes on my back, surrounded by the dead; those whose race no longer mattered. I have no memories before that point, if I had children; I don’t know. If I had friends, I don’t know. If I had a mother who is obviously as caring as you; I don’t know. What I do know is that if given the chance, if I knew I was leaving I’d make sure I had a way back home. *He realises how close to her face he actually is and move back standing up straight again* Because I would never want to lose all this . Don’t ever make the mistake I am like the others. Now, I’m going to ask some more questions. You’re going to answer them to the best of your ability. Afterwards I’m going to investigate his room and any belongings he left. Now tell me. Where do you think he went?
