“Miss Vine informed me that she would talk to the tower about their magic usage, but I don’t know what she’ll do if that doesn’t turn anything up. Who knows, they could be dead.” her words gave off an uncaring vibe, but Rea’s voice turned down and practically leaked sadness. “What about you? YOu got family?”
-
“Can you keep a secret, Fang?” she asked. “Because this is secret.” She looked around as if others were listening. “My parents were stolen.” she whispered. “My brother and I were at the zoo when it happened, so we weren’t.”
-
Rea’s breath, which had been coming in rapid ins and outs, slowed down and her feet slowed to a halt. “I’m sorry. Its just so different here- and I forgot this.” she slipped the collar over her head, where it hung loose. She flopped down, feeling a little hazy with the two groups of herbs affecting her, but nothing to worry about really. “You know, I have no idea where we are… I spent years trying to find this place and in a grief torn and confused state, within hours of burying my brother, I finally stumble upon it. By accident!”
-
Rea sighed. “How long has it been?” she asked Fang for the hundredth time. She was currently pacing along one edge of the room, ears and tail poking out and her eyes practically glowing. She held her collar in her hand but she hadn’t put it on.
-
“I’m – it’s – oh whatever. I’m just a little blue thing, blue eyes just like now. Well when I say blue, I really mean more silvery blue, though a bunch of my fur has got black tips. What about you?”
-
“Wow, that’s impressive.” she observed, taking a long drink from the can in her hand and setting it down. “Grape soda?” she asked, offering him one and opening one herself. “So how long you think we can last?” she asked. “I’ve never made it through the whole cycle, so I know I won’t this time.” the wolf was already there in her head, restless to be let out, but she quieted it by finishing the entire grape soda on top of the red bull. She would be good for a while on that.
-
“As well as I could, given the circumstances.” she answered, handing him a bag of flamin’ hot cheetos. “How does that work?” she pointed to the ceiling. “The announcements.”
-
Rea woke up first. She had only gotten a few hours of sleep, but the wolf called her back to consciousness. She blinked her eyes blearily and sat up, grabbing a red bull.
-
“Okay, okay!” he yelled, and then he flung something into her chest- a knife. She just barely knocked his arm to the side and kicked him in the stomach.
“You cannot kill me, Nicolas!” she yelled, grabbing him and swinging him to the ground. She pulled from her leg a wicked looking obsidian dagger of her own and pressed it to his neck. He kicked her, gasping for breath, and she was thrown into the gathering crownd. -
“We could get coffee?” she suggested tentatively, not sure if he was still awake. Then she grabbed her own pillow and laid down, falling asleep.
-
“Yeah!” she answered instantly, looking up from her pillow and smiling brightly. She blushed again. “I mean- uh- I’ll have to check with Miss Vine.” she continued. “Do you have a watch? What time is it?”
-
Come on, how hard is it? ‘I like you’, and then you’re gold!
“Sorry. I was wondering…..” If you would go out with me! By the Wolf, tell him! “If maybe we could hang out not just on the full moon?” -
Rea’s face turned bright red, even her slightly pointed ears were becoming rosy. “Well… ah… I um… I….” she groaned and grabbed a pillow, hiding her face. “NEVERMIND.”
-
Rea smiled again and set down the bags. “Yeah, safe. In here, at least.” she set down her bags and began laying the blankets on the floor. “So… do… you… ah, um, Do you have a girlfriend, Fang?” Faust! I really just asked him that!?
-
Rea smiled, and she was very glad for the darkness to cover her silly grin. “Yeah, wouldn’t want to get separated,” she said cheerfully. They walked into the barrier.
