“Transfiguration!” Calcifer barked excitedly. “Ooh you can use lightning too? I guess maybe it isn’t as uncommon as I thought!” He looked around, a doggish grin on his face and a wagging tail. “There are so many familiars here! Arctic fox- I think I saw a dragon before- ooh is that a jaguar?”
He suddenly seemed to remember he was supposed to be introducing himself to the poor wizard in front of him. “My name’s Calcifer, I’m a red wolf!” he yipped, tongue lolling out at the end of his speech.

Rea nodded and readied herself to answer.
Calcifer bounded through the school, searching for his first class, transfiguration. He was so excited, lightning crackled around his paws, setting everyone’s hair on end with each leap.

Rea flinched and turned around to look at the snake. “I didn’t forget to, I wasn’t here!” she answered defensively.

Rea snatched the letter out of the air, reading it and looping her key onto her necklace. “To the main office it is, then.” she wove through the people beginning to move about the halls, and knocked on the office door. “Ms. Vine, I got your letter…”

Rea woke up tangled in her blankets, thinking of her meeting with the familiar Aaron the night before. She felt like she was glowing with her excitement. She felt like she could have actually made a friend, and that made staying here even better. Then guilt washed over her like a wave. She was here to find her parents, not make friends. How incredibly selfish of her to forget that… her excitement evaporated, replaced with sadness, and she sniffled. “What am I doing….” she whispered, curling up on the bed.

Rea scurried to where she had left her clothes, picking them up in her mouth and going back into the school.

“Thank you, but it’s nothing really.” she said, arranging the bones neatly into a pile and placing that one in front. Well… it was nice meeting you, but I’d better go. See you tomorrow?” she asked, trotting towards the school.

“You’re pretty flexible, huh?” she observed, licking the bone and admiring the designs she had carved onto it.

“If you’re sure… so does that mean you don’t have a room?” she asked.

“Oh, Aaron, you’re bleeding!” she cried. “We should go inside, I can get dressed and help you with that.”

Rea would have helped him with his scratch, but she had left her clothes by the school… “uh oh…”

“Well I’m sure you’ll have luck this yea…” she trailed off and gasped. “Did you do that? That’s… amazing!”

“Why the sigh? Aren’t you looking forward to it?” just because Rea dreaded the thought of sitting in some classroom with a bunch of people, didn’t mean others were the same. “I mean, I don’t want to assume anything, but bonding and learning about your powers sounds pretty cool.”

“Rea… I just got here today.” she looked at the familiar again. “Do familiars take classes too?” she asked.

Rea nodded her thanks and picked the meat that was left off the bones and then picked up the ribs, beginning to gnaw quietly on them. “So… what’s your name?”
