Bakura felt a chill go down his spine, something big was going to happen and soon, he couldn’t tell if he was excited or scared…he felt both of these and at the same time neither of them. Best to just take his mind off of it, think of other things, think of the book. To calm himself down he began to hum a little hum that went something like this; “the more it snows, the more it goes, the more it goes on snowing”
-
“Well then, in the meantime if you need me I will probably be hiding in the library” He skipped off in the direction of the books, singing to himself as he went “I’m just a little black rain cloud, pay no attention to little me” his voiced trailed off to a soft hum as he moved out of sight
-
“She makes a fair point, and isn’t this an urgent mission making time of the essence?”
-
“A librarian too eh, aren’t you useful to have around, maybe one of these days you can explain the dewey decimal system to me, never could wrap my head around it. As for the book yes please, I find this particular story something of a comfort during hard times and something tells me things are set to get difficult and dangerous” Bakura followed after Mars, maintaining his happy-go-lucky appearance whilst internaly he was troubled, all this talk of souls was causing memories to surface, dark memories that he had thought lost
-
“Well my schedule is wide open, I’m up for it, and you need not worry yourself, this…Kit was it, looks like she can handle herself and I’m no push over either. You’ve been nothing but helpful since the moment I arrived and I’d like to repay your kindness, just let me know when we are heading off…in the mean time I shall continue reading, you know things were just getting interesting, owl’s house has been blown over” Bakura picked his book back up and began to sing to himself as he read “oh the wind is lashing rustly, and the trees are thrashing thrustly, and the leaves are rustling gustly, it feels like a rather blustery day today”
-
Sat upon one of the tables, Bakura finally looked up from the book he was reading, a fascinating piece of literature it was too, nothing quite like the works of A.A.Milne. “I can’t say I understood everything that has been said but I”ll help in any way I can…not now Delilah” the elephant was nudging at him to go and play “It’s time you went home Del”, he placed a hand on her forehead and the beast vanished “So what do you want me to do?”
-
“Well what are we waiting for then?” Bakura began to fly off until it dawned on him “Ha ha… Uh maybe you should lead the way”
-
Bakura remained dumbfounded for a moment, this certainly was unexpected, reasurrance and understanding; these were things no human had ever given him. He brought Delilah up next to Thrackerzod, leaned over and hugged Mars tightly, he remained in mid embrace for a while until he realised how odd this must look, he backed off slightly. “The fun lies in the journey so I find sometimes you should just see where the wind takes you…” Delilah trumpeted to signal take off, after a short run up they were soon in the air, it was hard to imagine an elephant being graceful but somehow Del managed it, she seemed to almost swim through the sky
-
“Well don’t I feel outclassed, and here I was hoping to impress you with my philanthropic rescue of a one of a kind animal from seedy criminals…which reminds me, I’m going to have to put my trust in you, Delilah has to remain secret, you see…I’m sort of not supposed to have her, when the authorities took the facility, they ordered the termination of all the experimental works, burning papers and smashing bottles is one thing but I couldn’t just let them kill her…you understand right?” He realised tears were beginning to form in the corners of his eyes, Bakura took a moment to compose himself. “I don’t know what it is about you but something just tells me my faith is well placed…look at me getting all upset over nothing when there is a tour to conduct, lead the way” Bakura saddled up so to speak or whatever the equivalent for riding a pachyderm was. He closed his eyes and internally scolded himself, it was happening again, this always happened he’d bowl in at full force and they’d be scared off within a day of meeting him. Another attempt at human friends ruined, he braced himself, expecting the worst.

“A tour would be most helpful, the steed however is unnecessary, I fly much faster riding the winds for myself…or there is always…yes, she would be perfect for this situation” He pulled a piece of chalk out of one of the myriad of pockets that lined the inside of his jacket and began to draw upon the ground at lightning speeds, until within 30 seconds he had a completed summoning circle. Stepping into the centre, Bakura began to channel the accumulated happiness he felt about his newly budding friendship. “In case you were wondering, the runes around the edge are Persian in origin”. The circle began to glow, with the light moving from the outside inward, a portal formed at the circles edge facing Bakura out of which stepped of all things…an elephant? It looked like an elephant, only smaller, no larger than your average horse “Meet Delilah, thanks to the illegal work of a group of mages based in New Delhi she is the worlds only flying elephant, isn’t that right you clever girl” Bakura proceeded to pet the creature which wrapped its trunk around him in a sort of hug
-
“He truly is a handsome specimen, though I would rather speak to him in his native tongue, I find that there is far too much that get’s lost in translation” Bakura proceeded to coo and hoot in the rudimentary owl he had been taught, he was a little rusty but he hoped it would suffice. After a short back and forth Bakura let out a laugh “Ha Ha, it is a small world after all, turns out I know one of his cousins, a fellow from back home in old blighty by the name of Thormin…you know I think he mentioned having family abroad” Bakura chuckled to himself as he reminisced “You said something about heading somewhere else in search of other activities didn’t you Mars? What did you have in mind?”

Experimental and has issues with authority, this one was going to be interesting, and that is what he wanted right new and interesting experiences. “Yours is a rather interesting one, a mixture of celtic and nordic character styles but the accents would place it somewhere in ancient Mesopatamia…sorry runes are something of a passion of mine, I dabble in almost any runic language you can think of except for Babylonian, I never did like the way they shape their letter g” Bakura furrowed his brow as he thought of it, ugly thing it was, had aways reminded him of a sad clown’s face “So uh, what do you people do around here, from my wanderings I haven’t figured out much except that you have a thriving insect population and that office chairs are fun” Bakura silently renewed his promise to return to and spin in that office chair
-
“Oh don’t trouble yourself dearie, that butterfly will be quite fine on its own…where are my manners, all this chatter and I haven’t introduced myself, well…Mars was it? I’m Bakura, Bakura Darkwing” he took hold of his new friends hand and shook it rather overzealously, or at least he hoped they would be friends, it would probably help his chances if he stopped with what was now becoming an awkwardly long handshake. Bakura released Mars’ hand and let out a nervous laugh, why did human interaction have to be so difficult. “As for my magic well how to explain it…my magic is born through emotion, I take my desired effect…let’s say to heal that patch of singed grass and I channel a particular emotion into it” Bakura snapped his fingers and the burnt blades leapt back up green and healthy “for the most part I try to use only joy or excitement as although others can be stronger they can also be unpredictable…fear is the worst, it does terrible things to people…”. He stared off into the distance, temporarly lost amongst his darkest memories before snapping back to reality “what was I talking about?”
-
“Thank you, though I must say I am far more interested in the runes, I haven’t seen that particular alphabet since that month I spent in the bornean rainforest, met a delightful parrot by the name of franz, spoke only in french though so communication proved tricky…where was I ah yes runes…scientia est…a…divinis”. Bakura smirked to himself, he had run into this sort of wizard before, those who build their magic through science, he didn’t really go for that sort of thing though, he had always disliked their need to label magic “before this conversation goes any further, and I suppose I should have opened with this…where are we, I was following a beautiful Danaus plexippus and got a bit uh…well a bit lost”
-
“Oh hello, did I see an owl…not important you asked a question, yes I have something of a talent for magic, I could demonstrate if you like”, pulling a pen from his pocket, Bakura proceeded to draw a rose upon his arm, raising his other hand above the doodle, he concentrated as the ink began to glow and rise off of his skin until he held a freshly cut rose, placing it against his lapel, he breathed on the bud causing the stem to coil and knot, pinning the flower in place. “What is it those performancey type people say…oh yes TA DA”
