*Surprised I stumble a bit and drop my cigarette, it hits the pavement with a bright spark. I put my arms around her and kiss her.*

*I turn surprised and not knowing what to think.* “Autumn?”

*I turn and light up a cigarette and take a drag. With a sigh I pull out my phone and send a text to my sister to meet up later. I walk home and smoke and look at the stars.*

*When we arrive at her building I give her a small smile and awkward wave.* “Have a nice night.”

*I try to give her a reassuring smile wondering what she means.* “I hope you still had a good time.” I say as we walk.

*Feeling terrible with myself and wanting to get Autumn home as soon as possible I feel slightly relieved as we roll up to the campus gates. I tip and thank the driver and turn to face Autumn.* “I’m really sorry again, do you need me to walk you home? I understand if you want to go back by yourself…”

“Of course, my apologies.” *I hail the cab and as we ride home in silence I reflect on my error wondering if I had misread her intentions.*

*After I get off the phone with the cab service I look back and walk alongside her out of the park.* “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to betray your trust.”

*I dial a cab and walk away to give her some space.*

*I notice her pull back and turn away embarrassed.* “I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to upset…” *The words kind of feel lost and without meaning.* “Why don’t we head home? I can call us a taxi.”

*I turn to Autumn and tilt her chin up toward my face, looking deeply into her eyes I lean in and kiss her.*

*I toss a coin into the fountain and make a wish.*

*We come upon a fountain in the park and I pull out some loose change.* “Do you want to make a wish?”

*I smile at her and offer her my arm.* “Of course, I’d love to.”

*As the movie draws to a close I collect our things and lead Autumn by the hand out of the theater. Because it was a matinee showing, there is still plenty of daylight left.*
