Tom quickly realized how unbalanced the teams were, but he kept his head.
Think, what do I have?
I have a latent but unusable affinity for alchemy. At best, I’m probably one of the best swordsman here, so that’s going for me. Ah, I have a little demon slaying knowledge, but that won’t help against foes of that caliber. How did I get this far? Forever, I always depended on others. Not anymore, I must take charge or history will repeat itself.
“Ok, let’s catalogue everyone’s ability, inert or taught. Oh, that’s right, I haven’t met everyone yet. I’ll go first: I can use a sword pretty well. I c-can use a gun too. It’s kind of hard to explain, but I can become unfeeling for a while. I may not be brightest, but I can surely be intelligent when I need be,” Tom said nervously.
This is harder than I thought. Maybe being a leader isn’t cut out for me.

Tom shook his head respectfully. It was a simple gesture, but it conveyed so much understanding. Tom had never shared a room, but there’s always a first for everything.

Tom immediately reported to the gymnasium. Even the smallest amount of insubordination meant danger on the battlefield. In fact, he didn’t even ask anyone why all the students were meeting up. Luckily, he was already close to the right gym. He tightened his bowtie absently. It was the first time he has seen Godal in person, who inspired both admiration and fear in Tom. He was clearly not purely human and his mechanic limbs told that he had seen much combat before. True, Tom’s gallant grandpa was his hero, but he paled utterly in comparison to the Titan of a man in front of him
Damn, I guess I have to wait ’till later for my fencing class. But hey, at least I didn’t have to navigate to get here.
This bowtie is really starting to grow on me.

Tom retrieved his weapons: His heavy magnum, dragon breathe, and he stumbled to grab his heirloom rapier. He put it back and instead took his training blade for his next fencing class. It lacked any edge and was more convenient and safe to carry around. True, carrying a gun on campus wasn’t justified, but he liked the weight of it in its holster, and you can never know when you’ll need it. Tom read somewhere that concealed weapons aren’t disallowed. Finally, he put on a silly green tie. It doesn’t quite match my outfit, but rules are rules, he thought to himself.

“Actually, my grandpa was a specialist in alchemy. I myself can’t even perform a simple transmutation, though my veins certainly hold magic. I can only tell you a few things. First, alchemy is the bridge between science and magic. Second, almost everyone has the hidden potential. ”
Tom smiled assuredly. His eyes almost sayed “You can do it.” He was almost embarrassed at his ineptitude. He bowed ever so slightly and took his leave.
-
“Miwa, What’s the matter? You look like you just saw a ghost. Maybe it’s something I don’t understand about the school yet. Anyway, what kind of book are you reading?” Tom intruded again. “If it’s anything about magic or alchemy, I might be able to help. True, my actual magical capabilities at it are naught, but I can help you on theory.”
-
“Miwa, and Takra” Tom repeated. “It’s truly a pleasure.”
He flashed a slight smile, and nodded in thankfulness and appreciation. The ice around his heart became unbearable, but then, it subsided after it reached its climax. It was always how it is. Warmth and then cold, a never ending cycle. Tom did have one fear, if he grew too close to someone, he might lose him or her. It’s happened too many times, and every time I could’ve done something about it. Tom noted Miwa’s wings. They didn’t seem to belong to show any ill intent.
Tom looked at the ceiling for a moment, and then, spaced out again.

“Hello. Please pardon my manners. I’m Tom. Very pleased the meet you,” Tom said mechanically. Growing up as part of the elite was harder than it seemed. One mistake and the reputation of you and your family was ruined. It has been a while since Tom last tried to mingle, and he certainly couldn’t hold a polite conversation for very long. Tom felt a little cold around his torso. The girl in front of him was too similar to his sister. He was reminded of how she was when they were younger. Whenever this happens, Tom couldn’t keep himself from bringing back painful memories. He froze in place.
It was my fault. I could’ve done something, I should’ve been braver. How can I do anything if I couldn’t save the one dearest to me.
A tear dropped down his face, but Tom was able to wipe it before she saw. Tom didn’t know what to do. He toughened up and finally asked, “What is your name? I hope we can be friends.”

Tom stood up and paced around the library. For a while, he was actually engaged in reading the books. He found an interesting book on different kinds demons, but it only made him more nervous. For a moment, he felt a cold gaze on his back.
I really want to interact with someone, but the couple over there seems like that they just went through a lot. Oh! What should I say? Even if I get into a conversation, what do I do from then.
“H-hello?” Tom spoke.
Damn, no, I didn’t mean to say that.
Tom could only hope to get a positive response. At the least, he could try to keep his calm.

Tom walked into the library. If anywhere, this is the place to start, he figures. He saw a boy and girl sitting together. Aw, how cute, he thinks to himself. He noted how there doesn’t seem to be a librarian in duty. He plucks a book from a bookshelf and pretends to read, if anything he just wants some human interaction.
-
Tom walks into another room and sees a guy, er maybe a girl, try to land a pathetic punch. He immediately leaves and wonders how to interpret what he just saw.
-
Tom walks into a library. He sees that not many students are here. Oh man, he thinks. “I have absolutely no clue what’s up with this school. It’s bad enough to transfer over during a school year, but the fact that I’m a junior without any friends or orientation is ridiculous,” he murmurs to himself. He takes a moment to appreciate all the great classes the school has, though.
