Piper noticed the eye rubbing of her companion. “Aight then, mate, we should go find our other roommate…I never did catch her name. But it would be bad to leave her alone in a big event like this, right? Even with the teachers here.” She began scanning the crowd for her golden haired friend…or would it be acquaintance?
-
“Oh, come on. You’re just a bit scared for the night, but maybe in a day…a week…a month…you’ll be interested.” She grinned, watching the finale of fireworks explode in the air. They seemed to be going on for a while, and checking her cellphone…which didn’t have service…showed that it was 10:30. “Didn’t they say curfew was at 11?”
-
“It’s…okay…” She huffed, breathing hard when they finally got back to the safety of being on the right side of the lake. “I’ll have you pay me back later…when we’ll go back there for real.” Piper winked at the other girl, her dark eyes twinkling with mischief. “Gah! Ew, a gnat in my lense.” She rubbed her eye, pulling her glasses off to wipe the small bug out.

Aurora kept her ears pressed down, muttering as she slinked away from the crowd. “Too loud.” She grumbled as she padded away, coming across a girl who seemed separate from the crowd and quite…huffy.

Piper let the fire die from her hands, and pressed them to her collarbone. “Oh, god. It wasn’t even a monster.” She pointed after the panther’s retreating figure. “A familiar.” She sighed, a bit from relief, “…but there goes one of our chances of a familiar to be. I haven’t seen that one before, though…” She shook her head. “Whatever. Let’s get out of here.”
-
“Yeah, you would need that if you always do hobbies like going into forbidden forests!” With a snap of her fingers, the flames engulfed her hands fully and she held them up in a menacing way though stepped back upon hearing a growl. “Uh, listen, if you show yourself we…might…let you live…?” She looked over to Liv for clarification.
-
“O-Ok! Come on! If its behind the wards it cant come here, either,” She grabbed Liv’s shoulder and physically dragged her back a few feet. The sound of a body of something hitting into the brush before the sound of leaves shaking made her shiver. “What was that?” She stumbled back, holding up a cupped hand where a flicker of fire was born. The light reflected off the eyes and she saw the swishing of a black tail. “Um, Liv…” Whatever that was it was outside the barrier.

Fireworks began to crack across the sky over the lake, the debris from it floating down and hitting the water the show was so close. These were actual human made fireworks. Not some light show of magic, which at times the good ole fashioned way was just as right. Flowers of sparks bloomed in the sky above, and students cheered excitedly, ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’ heard from the crowd.

“Perfect. The firworks are going off, now no one will notice your little ‘sneak peak’.” The shadows melted away from Piper almost like oil, and slipped under the bushes and trees back to where they belonged. “Common, if we’re gonna do this we ought to do it now.”
~~
Aurora lurched back a bit at the first boom of sparks in the air, pulling her muzzle to the grassy floor and letting out a yelp that coughed out chilly air from her frozen lungs…ice bloomed in the lake in front of her as she backpedaled back, her eyes flat against her head. ”That was quite the startle.” She quickly composed herself, clearing her throat and looking around in hopes no one would notice her. Instead, she spotted a black panther at the edge of all the excitement, looking like that one awkward pup in the bunch.

“Fine. I don’t know how far we’ll get mate. The thing might fry us like chinese food’s stir fry.” She grinned at the joke she’d tried to make.
-
“Dont go to far!” Piper murmured. “We don’t have the right spell or the numbers to open it yet…plus people are near..” She looked over her shoulder, seeing the headmistress look her way. Panicking, the stepped into the shadows of the tree disappearing completely.
-
“Wait! A! Second!” Piper whispered shouted, looking around before tearing after her. “Its dangerous! Besides, it’s only the first night, Liv!”
-
“I am not calling her ‘senpai’.” Piper shook her head with a scoff. She was still interested in the forest, though, no matter what Amanda had said. “After that now IÂ really want to get into that forest. But if there’s wards then there’s a spell, and Amanda said it was a strong one…ehhh…” She massaged her temples, “But right now we should be focused on finding our bonded, right? That’s what we came here for.”

Aurora sat alongside Raven, bitting into her sushi every once in a while and gazing at the fish that shimmered in the water longingly. They were fat, but had white and orange markings. They seemed to dance in the starlight. It was quite relaxing, really.

Piper stared at her for a moment, taking in the girl’s navy jacket with the gold school embelem sowed on the upper side. The blond smiled, not a mean one, but definitely sharp. “There’s supposed to be fireworks. I hope you enjoy them. If you need any help, I, your upperclassman Amanda Hope and her familiar Pecan are more than happy to assist you.” She leaned in a bit, green eyes glittering. “And if you happen to have a deccent story, look me up in the Journalism room. B33.” She stepped back, made a point of waving before strutting off to yell at some other freshman throwing rocks at the fish in the lake.
Piper stared after her with narrowed eyes. “I don’t like her.” She stated promptly.
-
A girl with silky blonde hair bounced over. “You heard, then? About Stephanie Blanc? She tried taking down the wards surronding the forest, which should take about four school teachers and their familiars but since she had a a Nightmarian Unicorn…A mythical creature…she was able to get through. Anyone who would just try to walk through the forest would immediately get bounced back like a rubber ball, so don’t try it.” She said, straightening her taller stature as if she were more important. Beside her was a toucan on her shoulder. He appeared to be her familiar.
Piper frowned, “So, you were eavesdropping?” She crossed her arms, looking up at the older girl who shrugged. “Maybe. But its my job to make sure you freshman don’t get into any trouble.”

The forest seemed to push back against Aaron, warding him off…or perhaps not the forest, but something keeping him out. -
“You think so?” Piper’s eyes sparked. “…I wonder who Stephanie Blanc is?”
-
“Ah…lrighty then.” She laughed, cracking up at the look on Goldmyth’s face after eating a rock. You would have thought she just popped a fresh baked cookie in her mouth.

“My lovely students of 2015!” The music roars down a bit, allowing for the headmistress to step forward. “I am pleased to see such a big happy crowd–and even more happy to see the mingling of familiars and students.” The blond woman stood up on a large boulder near the lake, as if it were some kind of stage. “This, here, is our lovely lake! Activites may be held here throughout the school year, and when the weather is nice we’ll bring out canoe’s and rowboats for a romantic ride to the river.” She winked, looking like a pervert for a few moments. But it passed just as quickly as it came, her face turning grave. “However, my students, beyond this lake there is a forest.” She threw a arm out toward the darkened forest, across the lake. There was a worn path leading back toward the forest as well, at the edge of the water. “Now…unless school events are being held back at the forest students are not permitted back there without the guidance of teachers. Now, not to worry, there is nothing back there to harm you…” Her voice seemed like cotton candy, sweet, and sugary…and fake. “We just don’t want students going back there and causing a ruckus.”
Murmurs echoed through the crowd, the name “Stephanie Blanc” seeming to slither across the ground.
“Nonetheless, classes begin tomorrow! Tonight blazers will be delivered to your room with our school’s ebelem. Its not required you wear it unless you’re working as a student-staff or in student council. Thank you!”
