Selena smiled at the tree nymph calmly. “Well, for a start, don’t you think it’s a little unfair that you cost my cousin her meal? It takes a lot of energy to hunt our food down, after all.”

Floating over to a nearby tree, she settled on the branch so that she would be level with the woman’s face. “Second, I had no idea that there were any nymphs left in this forest. I was only told to expect animals and maybe some humans here, so it’s good to meet someone else. My name is Selena, and I am this forest’s appointed Guardian for the next fifty years.”

From her perch, she bowed elegantly, the movement smooth and clearly well practiced. She’d trained hard for just such moments, and now that she was able to use her knowledge, she felt certain that things could go as well as she had hoped they would.

Selena cried out when one of the Hounds knocked her off her feet before she could fire an arrow, desperately trying to avoid being bitten by the savage creature. I can’t become one of them! I won’t let HIM control-

Without warning, the Hound on top of her was sent flying, and in its place was another cat woman-only this one was a tigress. She landed on her feet, crouched in a Martial Artist’s stance, not looking at Selena as she scrambled to her feet. “Aunt Rashelle!”

    “Were you bitten, Selena?”

    “No, thank the Great Mother.”

“Good. Your mother is on her way, as is Marina.”

Selena winced. Facing up to her mother and Aunt Marina wasn’t going to be fun-not that she would have a choice in the matter. “How angry is Aunt Marina?”

“Oddly enough, she’s not angry at all. After all, she has been drilling it into you to call for help when you need it, Selena.” Rashelle flicked a glance at her and smiled encouragingly, belying the sadness deep in her eyes. “They’re more likely to be glad you’re alive than anything else, Selena.”

Stepping up next to her, Selena scooped up her bow from where it had been sent flying earlier. “Did you see the Lady up on the top deck, Rashelle? The one with the cat girl and the Nine Tailed Fox?”

“I did, yes. Her companions are both Shikigami, Selena-powerful in their own right. You’ve done well today. Selena, I believe that now may be a good time to start shooting.”

Selena flushed under her fur, but did as she was instructed, glad that this, at least, she was able to do.

Selena prowled the ship, searching for that one note of alarm she had heard. She needed to hurry-if she was right, then the ghost girl could be in danger, and it was clear that she had some sort of attachment to the boy she had been with. She didn’t care about how she had appeared rude earlier-protecting lives was more important at this point in time.

A breeze across the back of her neck made her turn, and her eyes widened at the sight in front of her. “Oh, no. Hell Hounds.” This was quite literal, as several large black dogs with red eyes were stood watching her, heads down, snarling through bared teeth and with saliva dripping from their lower jaws. “Why did it have to be Hell Hounds…?!”

Taking a slow step back, she began backing away from them carefully. Thankfully, her scent was currently much stronger than that of the ghost girl’s-Hell Hounds had a habit of eating spirits that drifted freely in this world, although if there were members of her Temple nearby, they would go for them instead.

Wait a minute. The Lady from earlier had a cat girl with her! She swore explosively, frantically erecting a shield at the top of the staircase to keep the Hounds from heading up that way, but knowing it wouldn’t do much good if there was any more of the creatures on board. ‘Sisters!!! Help me!!!’ She sent the mental call out as quickly as she could, pulling her bow from her quiver as the Hounds finally began to attack!

Selena frowned as she watched the exchange. Wanting her large cousin to have a full, proper meal, she spread her senses through the forest, searching for another deer for her. Finding one, she dispatched it with a quick arrow, then brought it to the tiger, lowering it from above while shielding her from her scent.
Now she was certain that the tiger could eat her fill, she raised a shield around her, one she could easily leave-but would prevent any enemies from approaching. Turning to the trees, she spoke calmly and clearly. “I know you’re still there, Stranger. I would appreciate the opportunity to talk in peace about your actions this night.”
Her current assignment was to keep the forest safe, and that was exactly what she intended to do.

I think Tartarus’s idea is a good one, but what if the few other worldly beings that were in the city were slaves to the humans? We could have a whole ‘destroy the city and free our comrades’ thread, then.

Selena smiled at the robotic creature before her. “You know of us, I’m afraid-you just haven’t… met us. We’re all over this planet, and we always try to greet visitors where we can. And I am truly sorry if I caused offence to your friend.”

Her ear twitched, and her head turned to the main body of the ship as her smile slipped away. “Excuse me. I have work that must be done, before it gets any worse and I have to call in my stronger Sisters.” Her eyes had narrowed with anger-a rare emotion seen in her. Her hand twitched, as if about to reach for her bow, and her body was now filled with tension.

With a quick bow to the Lady and her companions-she knew power where she saw it-Selena strode away, heading into the ship’s lower quarters, hoping against hope that things weren’t as bad as she suspected they may be.

Selena gasped as the ship rocked, almost falling from her perch. Wide-eyed, she glanced down at the alien craft that had just landed in the ocean, then huffed in annoyance. The Great Mother’s going to freak when she hears about this one. At least she can’t blame me this time…

Not that she would be having much to do with-oh, Hell Hounds. The blast had scared her enough that her fur was now standing on end, and from experience, she knew it would take her ages to flatten it out again. Taking a deep breath, she slowly let it out between her fangs. She was an Acolyte of the Great Mother Goddess. She did not lose control over an alien space ship fluffing up her fur right when she was about to start a mission.

Opening her eyes, she stepped off of her perch, calling the winds of the sea to aid her in simply floating down to the deck of her ship. One of the crew spotted her immediately and walked over to her. “Miss, can I see your-” Not even stopping, she pulled her ticket out of her top and held it up where he could clearly see it, a sweet smile playing about her lips as he went wide-eyed and quickly backed away from her.

The smile slipped from her face as she turned back to the group. Sighing, she walked over to greet the aliens-just as it introduced itself. She raised an eyebrow at the way it spoke, but couldn’t say she was all that surprised. “Forgive me for the interruption, my Ladies” -the cat girl, Nine Tail Fox, and the older woman accompanying them- “and to you, Sepheri, or to Mentin, whoever is at the forefront right now. Please, if I could make a suggestion…?”

Directing her gaze to the robotic alien, she smiled ruefully. “My Sisters and I have a lot of work to do, keeping this planet’s winds working properly. Perhaps the next time you come to land, or to leave, you could ask us to direct you down…? I mean no offence, but it’s very difficult to keep this world working as it should, and our Mistress would not be happy if something were to happen that could hurt the residents here…”

Possible urban area…? Not all animals/mythical creatures would live in the wild, after all…

    Name: Selena Triane

    Age: 22 years old

Appearance: A snow leopard woman who is more snow leopard than woman, Selena has silky fur that is mostly silvery in color, but with black rosettes covering her arms, legs and back. With dark green eyes and black hair that she leaves loose to hang past her waist, Selena can make quite the first impression when she wants-especially if she hasn’t styled her hair to hide her rounded black-backed ears from sight. She also has white in her fur-mostly on her hands, feet and stomach, along with her cheeks.

Clothing wise, because of her fur, Selena prefers as little as possible-especially in hot weather. If it’s hot out, you’ll find her in a strapless silk slip that leaves her stomach bare, with a matching short skirt that comes up under her tail. Her jewelry matches her clothes-she always wears a blue lace agate pendant, with matching earrings, bracelet, anklet and a large ring on her right index finger.

She carries with her a bow and quiver at all times-not for her protection, but that of the people that she watches over. She keeps the quiver attached to her back, and, when she’s not using it, her bow is stored inside it so she can keep her hands free at all times.

Species: Three quarters Snow Leopard, quarter human

    Sub-Species(If none, say so.): Human

Attitude: Just as quick to play a joke on someone as she is to protect them, Selena has a very kind attitude to others most of the time-unless someone has hurt the person she’s currently protecting. If that happens, she has been known to use her powers over Air to pin the offender and then use them as a target for practice-unless, that is, she needs to question them about their motives.

Habits/Hobbies: Selena has a habit of watching the world from high places, and using her observations to play pranks on the people below. She also enjoys practicing her archery, but she usually just uses a painted dot on a wall for this.

    Bio:

Selena is a highly trained Archer, taught since childhood to wield her bow with accuracy and precision in order to waste as few arrows as possible. Unlike most children, she wasn’t raised in a home or an orphanage-she was raised in a Temple, high in the mountains, where she and those around her dedicated their lives to the Goddess that gave them the power to control the element of Air.

Along with this power, Selena received the tendency to play tricks on others, becoming as capricious as the air itself was. But with that side effect came the ability to heal others of their injuries, and she takes this side of her duties very seriously, often seeking out the most sick in the area she’s in in order to heal them as best she can.

When she’s not healing the sick, Selena is guarding whoever the Goddess she serves has sent her to, until they no longer require her help and she can return to the mountains that she loves once more.

Pure white fangs flashed in the sunlight as Selena watched from above. Silvery fur, complete with black rosettes, covered her body-apart from her snow white hands, feet, stomach and tail tip. Green eyes watched keenly from her perch high above the ‘humans’ below-she always found them ever so amusing.

How else do I keep them safe, if I don’t watch them…? She thought to herself-and watch them she did. Alarm bells had rung in her mind a few weeks back on hearing about this particular ship, so here she was, ready to have fun-and work at the same time. A simple pale blue silk slip served her for a top, with a matching short skirt that allowed her tail to move as it wanted, the tip curling round elegantly. A blue lace agate pendant hung around her neck, accompanied by matching jewelry at her ears, wrists, and ankles-as well as a large ring on her right index finger.

Standing, she adjusted the quiver attached to her hip. “I’d best start searching this ship, I think. I don’t want that boy to lose his ghostly friend, after all.”
