“Just a little sleepy I guess.” Charlotte blushed and picked her head up off his shoulder. She noticed Byrne looking out the window. He said something about having a strange feeling. “what do you mean?”
-
Charlie began to move with Byrne. They seemed to be in perfect synchronization. Each move she made fell right into place with his. It made her feel so warm. Charlotte couldn’t even speak, their dancing just left her breathless. Even as songs would change, they were still able to manage to be in sync. There was a little hesitation here and there, but nothing to awkward, surprisingly. Charlie grew tired after a few songs. She leaned in closer to Byrne, and placed her head on his shoulder. Charlie then closed her eyes. She listened to the music carefully, and just let him lead her completely.
-
“Everything all right?” Charlotte asked, “you seem as nervous as I am.” I wish there was something I could do to help him out, but I’ve never even stepped foot on a dance floor before. Maybe I should offer to lead, or offer to sit down, or just smile. What the actual fuck was I thinking asking him to dance. Goddamn it Charlie. She turned bright red, and her palms began to get clammy. All she could do was just stare at him and smile to trick herself into making it seem like she was not panicking. Charlie’s mind was moving a million miles a second, all because of Byrne. He was so new, and amazing, she just didn’t know how to handle it. She had never been exposed to any of this before, and it was terrifying… but in a way, she loved it. Charlie took a long, deep, breath, and looked at him. “Maybe you’re a lot less nervous than I am… but you still look pretty goddamn nervous for a strong warrior like you.”
-
Charlie blushed. “Right.” She grabbed his hand and stood up slowly. Charlie was a bit apprehensive to dance with Byrne. What if she stumbled, or said the wrong thing. Charlie look down at her feet, and then at the dance floor. She took a deep breath. Then, she led Byrne onto the dance floor. “show me your moves mountain man.” She lead in close and gave a nervous smile.
-
“Living in the mountains seems pretty cool.” Charlie looked behind her at the dance floor, it was empty. The music was blasting. It was actually pretty distracting. Charlie looked back at bryne, and got an idea. “would you want to dance? I-I’ve never danced at a party before, and you know there’s a first for everything.” She gave him a nervous grin, and stood up. “It can’t be to bad…”

Charlotte half smiled as he handed her the cup. She took a few sips before responding. “It takes a while to get used to honestly. You cant choose what you want to hear, so it’s just all of the dead that’s roaming near you at once. most of them fallow me, because. honestly, their just lonely. So, I’m doing quite the favour by talking back.” She took a deep breath. “It’s kinda nice too, because when I’m lonely their just there. I don’t have to worry about them not responding, it’s just simple and nice.” Charlotte looked back at Byrne, then down at her cup, then back at Byrne. “Thanks for the drink too.” Charlotte flashed a smile at him.
-
Charlotte laughed. “yeah, I’m the only person I know of with my ability. I assume it’s pretty rare. your thing is pretty cool too.” She paused while he yelled across the room to his uncle, or something. He seemed like a nice guy, it’s not everyday that someone thought Charlotte’s power was cool. Hell, no one had told her it was cool, ever. maybe, she was getting a real, living, friend. fingers crossed. she thought.

Charlie hesitated to respond at first, she just looked down at her feet. His first comment about not looking, “strong or special” upset her a bit. But, at least someone was actually talking to her for a change.
“I can talk to the dead,” She replied with a stutter, “and I’m also able to predict deaths like a banshee.” Charlie looked up quickly at the boy, gave a half smile, and looked right back down and her feet. He didn’t leave right away so Charlie decided to carry the conversation on.
“whats your gift?”

Charlie entered the party slowly. She wasn’t much for crowds, or living, breathing, people in general. That’s why she had skipped most of class and all social events for a while now. It was just to much for her to take in.why now? she thought, why this party? Charlie didn’t even know anyone here, and she doubt any of them knew her too. Her mom kept telling her, “you need to go out more, try something new.” And, like always, her mother was right. Maybe death gave her some sort of third eye, Charlie would always think. That or she just knows a hell of a lot more about life than me. Hopefully, Mom wouldn’t fallow her here. the pesky part about talking to ghosts is that the get attached easily. They’re so lonely for company, they just want to stick around for a while. Admittedly, the company was nice, but at parties talking to ghosts just makes you look like a complete nut case. So, as charlie entered, she found the snack table, took a nice red solo cup of punch, and found the nearest wall to stand awkwardly by.

Charlotte half smiled. “these rules seem pretty manageable, i accept”
