The girl had already been awake for several hours when her companion finally awoke. She gave him a short greeting before grabbing her bag. Once they were ready, the duo stepped out of the room and headed for the bar and lobby area to eat their breakfast and return the key.

They lifted one foot and pressed it to the side of their other knee before they silently began counting to twenty.

As they did, Jace couldn’t help smiling at the words of whomever had just arrived. Their soul seemed very different as well, feeling electric, yet soft all at once. A definite curiosity.

Once reaching twenty, they switched to their other foot and began counting again.

Jace nodded and grinned at Haru. “Okay. I’m ready.” They loosened their shoulders, preparing for instruction.

“I think so. Simple, quick movements and building momentum for further attacks. Right?” They weren’t sure, though they wanted to learn.

Jace nodded to the teacher’s general direction. “That would be great,” they said.

Panic stared at the wolf, his ears flicking, and his gaze practically daring the flaming canine to try something with him or his master.

Panic lead them to the right side of the teacher where they waited for further instructions. Jace was getting even more anxious though, tapping their foot and playing with their fingers.

“You can leave if you want,” the sprite reminded them.

They shook their head. “I’m fine. I want to do this.”

Jace grinned as more students arrived to the warm-up session, though they were still nervous about the actual sparring. The didn’t have any real combat experience that wasn’t just Panic using his powers to protect them. But Jace wanted to be able to protect themself should Panic ever leave.

In another room, J.C. slept silently, undreaming, ready to pounce should she need to. She had Rage watch over the room while she rested, though she would take the next watch.

“Yeah, we want to head out early. It was good meeting you,” she said with a nod. “Maybe we can talk again.” She stood up and inconspicously checked the weight of her bag to make sure everything was accounted for.

She let her shoulders relax, though some ice stayed in her light brown eyes. “Right, so now it’s just you and Black?” Another drink of her soda and her glare faded.

She nodded, listening intently, until he mentioned bandits. Her posture tensed up and her gaze chilled drastically. “You’re a bandit?” Her voice was calm like dry ice waiting to burn.

“There’s not much to say since my family was killed. Me and dad got on on luck. We were looking for food.” She stared into her cup. “Well, when dad died, he went how he would’ve wanted. No guns or animals. Just quietly got sick, didn’t wake up one morning.”

Jace nodded and chugged down a Gatorade before attempting to mimic the instructions they were given. Panic watched closely, sure to point out to them any mistakes, but his caution was unneeded as the soul seer was in fairly good control of their own movements.

“Nothing, thank you. And please, call me Rage.”

“Yeah, thanks for the sodas, er, Zed.” She often forgot to be courteous, though the lack of people to show courtesy to was definitely a factor.
