They laughed a bit and shook their head. “Must be a handful.” Wiping some sweat from their forehead, Jace wondered aloud how long the lap around the school was.

“What’s your brother like, if you don’t mind me asking?”

Panic nodded to Ludwig then turned back to watch the path.

“Don’t mind him,” Jace shrugged. “He doesn’t talk much to people who aren’t me.”

“Yeah, fairies are real, but they’re all jerks. They never do anything unless they can get something out of it. And they love to mess with people, too. Sprites are cool, though. The little guy floating next to me is Panic, my guide sprite.” They gestured to the cat-like creature.

Jace laughed before saying, “I can see souls and other types of spiritual energy. I think it’s pretty cool, but it can weird people out.” They sighed.

“That sounds annoying. Well, I wish you luck in proving you can be social.” They gave a smile and said, “I’m here because they wouldn’t accept me at Hogwarts, as technically I’m not a witch or wizard.”

“That’s a cool name. Would it be rude of me to ask what brings you to this school?”

“Uh, hi,” they said to the other student jogging with them. Now was as good a time as any to introduce themself. “My name’s Jace.”

“New York, huh?” mused the girl who had just wandered into the dilapidated metropolis. “The way the grown-ups talked about it, you’d think it was some kind of Promised Land.”

The shadowy figure beside her laughed. Rage always laughed at her jokes, though she never really made any. He was a weird guy. “So, where should we settle down for the night?” he asked. “There are bound to be others here, and I doubt they’re as friendly as me.”

She nodded, taking her pistol in hand and turning to one of the burnt out buildings. “Let’s check here first. And we’re gonna need to find food tomorrow if we don’t wanna starve.”

    Name: J.C.

    Age: late teens

    Gender: female

What type of person you are: adventurer/scavenger

Your bio: J.C. was born into a caravan of pretenders, individuals who acted as if just staying together would be enough to survive. But she was never fooled by their delusion, and was always a serious child. She would take portions of her rations and pack them away for any sort of emergency, and often collected old relics she thought could aid in her survival. When raiders came and killed almost her entire family, any semblance of innocence she may have had was lost, and with only herself and her father, they began wandering alone. Her father died, leaving her to fend for herself when she was a young teen, and years of solitude lead her to invent a companion she called “Rage.”

Your goal: Survival first and foremost, though she would like to discover as much of the world as she can.

Jace stood and handed their walking stick to Panic before jogging after the teacher. They figured if they just followed the same path, there would be far less chance of tripping over anything, but they had to hurry.

Jace set down their walking stick and proceeded to sit down and stretch for their toes while Panic floated above them and watched.

Jace and Panic arrived, the former laughing under their breath at the eccentric adult. They silenced themself before glancing around to the others gathered there.

Panic lead Jace to the courtyard after they told him that they wanted to go. “I thought you didn’t want to fight,” he questioned his master.

“Yeah, but I might as well see who will be there. And the announcement said it was voluntary, so I can leave if I want.”

<span style=”background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);”>Jace sighed and stood, Panic glowing slightly as he lead them back out of the forest. Though this time Jace was careful to focus their senses on their surroundings, memorizing this place for later. But they were so focussed on the sounds and smells of the wood, that they missed a root that intersected their path.</span>

<span style=”background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);”>Panic was able to catch them as they fell, his magic flashing as it stopped the momentum and pushed them back to standing position. “Seriously,” he said, exasperated. “You have a walking stick and a magical guide animal and you’re still tripping over everything.” Jace merely stuck out their tongue.</span>
