Jace frowned. They had thought this would be some kind of scavenger hunt or something, though that did seem childish now that they thought about it. They could have Panic try to retrieve it, but that would be a waist of his abilities. Otherwise they had no chance in any sort of combat, and they doubted they could out think what must be a robot of some sort, regardless of what she said. They only felt a strange echo of a soul from the teacher.

“Do you think I should join in whatever challenge this is?” Jace asked their companion.
The sprite merely shrugged. “Do what you want. If you think it’ll help you gain friends, I’d say go for it.”
They nodded and Jace followed Panic across the campus to the forest.
-
“I thought you wanted to make friends,” the sprite smirked to his master.
“You shush,” they replied. But Panic was right, Jace was not making a good impression.

Jace was surprised by the revelation of their classmate’s soul, but also by the words of the student teacher. Turning towards the voice, a look of confusion crossed their face, but they quickly schooled their expression.
-
“I’m sorry,” they mumbled. “I was just surprised, is all. I haven’t met very many people before.” They pet Panic for something to do with their hands.

Jace felt a classmate returning their stare and smiled bashfully, turning to the ground. It’s rude to stare, Jace, they chastised themself. But they couldn’t get that person’s soul out of their mind. It was unlike anything they had ever seen.

Jace couldn’t help but stare at all the different types of souls that were gathered in the room. They had noticed some earlier, but had never thought this school would have such diversity. They were dying to find out more about the other students, but just asking “hey, why’s your soul so different?” would be rude. Their mother taught them better than to ask invasive questions.

Jace shrugged and followed her guide to the gym as requested. They had hoped to do some studying, but there was always time for that later. Whatever the strange voice wanted was probably important and they didn’t want to miss it.

After having Panic, their seeing eye sprite, read the rules, Jace nods and says, “yeah, cool. I agree.” The new student then turns and follows Panic out onto the campus.
