Caligula shrugged slightly, flipping a few pages back in his notebook, “If something isn’t broken, then attempting to fix it can only cause harm.” He explained halfway absentmindedly, “I’m sated with my life. From my viewpoint, to add or remove anything would be a pointless gamble.”
-
“Right at this moment? Things aren’t great,” He said, closing his eyes and letting his head fall backwards, “if anyone who knows anything finds me, I’ll be dragged back home and then I’d have to leave again. It’d be a pain in the ass.” He scowled slightly to himself at the thought of that, “Other than that everything’s fine, it’s not like I’m running away from anything, I just have better things to do than waste time here.” He said with a shrug and rolled over to swim on his stomach rather than his back. He swam a little closer to Asona, “Anyway, I’m sure a cute mademoiselle like you must’ve been treated like a princess anyway,” he said and tapped her on the nose with a chuckle, “By now, you’ve probably traveled more than I have, so what do you think?”
-
Theon glanced back at her, “I know about harpoons because I’ve been playing with them all my life, dummy!” He teased with a cutesy smile, “And about the ocean…” He pondered, putting a finger up to his cheek, “…Hmmm… Maybe I shouldn’t say.. but because it’s someone as culturally inept as you, I’ll tell you.” He turned around and swam backwards, propelling himself by swishing his tail, “I come from this city, Valantis, but more specifically, from the family Valerious,” He began, changing the way he spoke a little, sounding more eloquent and adult than usual, “That family ruled over this city as well as the Mediterranean sea for about as long as history goes. I’m the oldest son of that family, so over the years I’ve been around a bit.” He explained and rolled his shoulders back with a sigh.

Caligula shrugged. He listened to Jaya’s speech with one ear, still paying more attention to his notebook, “I personally don’t plan on changing.” He said bluntly, “I’ve operated perfectly well for the past several decades and have no interest in disrupting that operation.”
-
Theon nodded, “That’s probably true no matter where in the ocean you are.” He said, tucking the pearls and other valuable stones in the satchel he had tucked behind a fin, “I think this should be about enough, I’ll just get something cheap and modify it as needed on the way.” He said with a shrug, discarding the oyster shells on the sea floor and beginning to swim upwards again.
-
“I need to buy a harpoon, remember?” Said Theon, “I’d like to spend as little time as possible without a weapon and didn’t think to bring it before I left.” He said, looking over the haul in his arms with a small nod of approval, “The thing is, land people, they can’t easily get pearls, because of that the value is inflated for them. A lot of mermaids dislike land people on principle, especially the old money families that go back generations who own oyster fields. Some of them refuse to sell to air-breathers all together, other’s artificially increase the value for them because they hold the monopoly.” He explained, resting against a rock and beginning to pry some of the oysters open, “Because of that, if we offer prices halfway reasonable for the type of less than quality pearls from here, we’ll turn a good profit.”
-
Despite himself, Caligula couldn’t help but chuckle, “I see what you mean by a ‘complete angel'” he said, briefly glancing over his glasses at Celest with a humorous glint in his eye before looking back down at the notebook. “There’s a difference between pessimism and realism. From my knowledge, the world isn’t such a kind place, not everyone has a purpose.” He said in a dull, distracted tone of voice, “Baseless optimism and false hope is more detrimental than baseless pessimism cynicism.”
-
Theon nodded, continuing to pick up and examine rocks and oysters, trying to appraise their value, “Yeah, that seems about right for a backwater town in the middle of the Pacific.” He said somewhat dully, then turned toward Asona, “Here, take these,” He said, giving her an armful of oysters, “Shell them for pearls, we’ll sell them to sailors and merchants, they don’t know the value of these things so we can get a little more than selling them to merpeople.” He explained, returning to collecting things from the sea floor.
-
Theon glanced back at her and cocked his head slightly at her worried expression, raising an eyebrow, “It’s nothing serious, I just left,” He said and shrugged, “There are people who probably want me back, but I’ve got better things to do so I’m not gonna be going any time soon.” He said, then chuckled a little, “I’m sure you’ve been to a lot of cool places! You came all the way from the Pacific, right? That means you had to swim through the Indian Ocean, right? I’ve never been there before, only places around the Atlantic and a lot of those places were boring.” He said, swimming closer to the sea floor to collect oysters for their pearls and other possibly valuable rocks.
-
“Not pessimistic, realistic.” He mumbled, still focusing the majority of his concentration toward his notebook, “Objectively, I fit practically none of the standards of what a demon is supposed to be like, especially if you were to compare me to that one there.” He nodded toward Jaya, then paused a moment before continuing, having briefly lost his train of thought to what he wrote, “By my own standards, I believe I’m a decent sort of person.”
-
He glanced backwards at her, “I’m not sure if they are, but people might be looking for me already, and if they found me, it would be annoying.” He said and gave a somewhat cheeky smile, “If we pass through the center of the city, I’d probably be found, but if we go nearer the outskirts it would be harder.” He explained as they reached the outer edge of the suburbs, “Anyway, if we’re going to go all the way to the North Sea, then we’ll be passing though plenty of cities.” He said, swimming slower at a more casual pace, “I hear there’s a really beautiful city off the coast of Marseilles… Ah~ I want to go to France!”
-
Caligula glanced at Celest and gave a good-natured smile, “I know, it just feel that way.” He said, twirling it around so the pen faces the paper again and begins to write again, “I’m aware that at 100% power, I’m probably still only a fraction of any one of you at 50%…” He trailed off on his sentence, concentration seeming to shift almost completely to the notebook as he scribbled in it.
-
Theon nodded, “Yup, its really fun!” He said, turning around to swim further, then stopped at the edge of a cliff, putting an arm out to the side to stop Asona. “We’re here!” He said somewhat excitedly. At the bottom of the cliff, a massive city sprawled across the sea floor. He looked over the city for a long moment, a somewhat melancholy smile appearing on his face for a moment before he glanced at her again with his usual grin, “Alright lets go!” He said, beginning to swim down to the bottom of the cliff, “It might be best to go around or over instead of through, they might be already looking for me.” He murmured the last part.

Caligula glanced up at the angels and chuckled slightly,”It’s a little funny,” He said, “As a demon, I’ve been basically useless, but because I’ve lost nothing it almost feels like I have the upper hand.” He said, then returned to writing, “Although it’s not like I’ve gained anything, I’m still just as useless as before.” He said humorously, twirling his pen between his fingers.
-
Caligula glanced at them over the rim of his glasses, “If it’s no trouble, keep mine a little on the raw side.” He smiled a little meekly, “I’m still a demon. Even though I try, I cant help but have a taste for blood.” He said, turning his attention back to his notebook.
