Pokémon and Digimon. But that was before I really understood what ‘anime’ was. To me, it was just cartoons! 😀

Tristan’s eyes scanned for a booth to head into, mixed drink in hand, where he could spend a few moments to unwind. He had a feeling that his sister would be looking for a full report on how the club was and the least he could do was try to be social. Hazel eyes scanned over the occupants of the café: there were a few Omegas sitting quietly by themselves, the group of young Alphas and a few stray Alphas drinking by themselves as well. Deciding to avoid the Alphas like the plague, he decided to approach the seat of one of the Omegas who appeared to be attempting to fade into the background. He would have to make a point to chat with the other Betas, but he needed a little more time in the club to make himself comfortable enough to deal with approaching the group. Doubtless they would want to start snooping their nose into his personal life and just in general be busy-bodies, and he would have to pretend to be nice and try to keep from snapping at them.

Instead, he decided to build his confidence and grow accustomed to the club by approaching an Omega. Due to living with one, Omegas were known territory to him assuming they weren’t waiting for a particular Alpha to show up.

“Are you okay?” Tristan asked Kiara, using the brotherly, gentler than normal tone of voice he used to coax trepidatious Omegas into approaching the store counter or making requests. Even if he came off as a quarrelsome and cantankerous to Alphas and fellow Betas, it was almost an instinctual thing for him to be nice to Omegas. This was what kept him his job, of course. Sliding into the booth before she could protest, he sighed, “Don’t worry, I’m just a Beta, not an Alpha or anything.” Not that it wasn’t immediately apparent by his general attitude and manner. “This is my first time coming here, so I’m trying to get a feel for the people who do come here. The name is Tristan Riker. What’s yours?”

The bantering and bragging of the juvenile Alphas nearly gave Tristan a heart-attack as he struggled to keep from rising up off of his bar stool and giving those Alphas a piece of his mind and preferably a drink in the face. Getting up into the face of even one Alpha was dangerous, nerve-racking and fool-hardy enough, but taking on an entire crew would was hopeless, as he knew from experience. If they didn’t laugh him back into his place as a subordinate Beta, he’d have the crap beaten out of him. Or worse. The barkeep handed him his drink, a 7 and 7, which he took some quick drinks from to keep from cussing them out. He could feel waves of heat emanating from his cheeks as he flushed with anger and tried not to spit out some of his drink as one of the Alphas recounted his tale of depravity and coercion to his appreciative cronies.

Placing his drink down on the counter, he let out a sigh and swore under his breath. His sister was going to be so disappointed in him when he returned home all banged up from yet another scuffle. But a broken arm or even a hospital visit would be better than just sitting quietly like an Omega. At least at the end of the day he’d be able to look himself in the face without shame. Tristan’s hands shook with fear as he pushed himself up shakily and turned to the gang of Alphas but to his relief a different Alpha was striding confidently towards the ruffians and chastised them. It wasn’t quite the chewing out they deserved. In typical Alpha fashion, the older Alpha seemed more concerned with his peace being disrupted then the actual content of their bragging, but at least it didn’t seem like he’d have to interfere. Letting out a near silent sigh of relief, Tristan decided to grab his drink and head for a booth like planned instead of awkwardly sitting back down and drawing attention to himself. That was close, he thought to himself.

Zembra’s shout brought an amused smirk to Skvaada’s face, because really that summed up just about everything. “WELCOME TO ALTERNIA!” Then, focusing on the computer, she steered the avian beast towards Zembra’s hive. It took a moment to understand the directions and get used to seeing both the computer and the surroundings, but eventually she got the hang of it.

Tobias spotted something flash in the water and paused for a moment in the air, just barely delaying a wingbeat. The brief moment of change gave the land-dwelling a troll the chance to pull up on the feathers. “Don’t you dare! Hunt on your own time,” she shouted at the lusus. Not only would it be embarassing, given present company but the sudden dive has a chance of accidently dislodging her new friend!

With a reluctant squawk and a slightly nasty glare directed at her ward, the lusus continued flying and approached where the computer indicated Zembra’s hive was.

Tristan let out a low hiss from the sidewalk as he looked up at the country club’s sign, checking to make sure this was the right place. Under normal circumstances, there was no way he would ever even go into an establishment like this but he after a long day of school, he desperately wanted a place to relax and decompress before starting the long commute home to his apartment. His younger sister, unbeknownst to him, had saved up her money to give him a membership to the Gray Wolf Club as a birthday gift for just such a purpose. Although this place wasn’t his scene at all, the Beta was loathe to waste money. After all, it couldn’t be too bad.

Letting out another sigh, he sauntered into the club and cast a gaze carefully calculated to appear casual, around the room checking to see if the patronage was comprised of mostly Alphas or Omegas. Tristan shot the barkeep a sympathetic look as he took a seat and ordered a drink, intending to take it and retreat into a quiet, secluded booth. Having to work with Alphas so closely for such an extended period of time must be agonizingly stressful. Just the thought set his own teeth on edge. while he waited, the Beta glanced at the menu behind the bar counter, contemplating on getting an order of snack to enjoy while he drank.

“Alright, then. Please hold on.” Skvaada plunged her hands into the mass of snowy white feathers on her lusus’ neck, until she found a good hand-hold. She gave Tobias a few strokes on the neck before gently urging her lusus foward.

Tobias gave a screech before giving a great flap of her wings and leaping off the landing pad and rocky cliff her ward’s hive was built on. Another powerful flap, and the bird began to rise high into the sky and circle, looking for a thermal current to gain some more height while Skvaada began to check the computer to find their destination.

“Are you alright?” She shouted against the hiss of rushing wind that whipped past as the lusus finally reached a high enough altitude to satisfy the avian creature. Catching a seabreeze, the lusus began to head out across the ocean.

    Name: Tristan Riker
    Age: 22
    Caste: Beta
Occupation: College student taking art classes while working part-time at a chocolate shop
Appearance: He stands at below-average height but his lean figure and long legs give him the illusion of being a little taller. He has tidy sunflower blonde hair at ear-length and hazel green eyes. Currently wearing a dark brown dress shirt with a high collar, and some black slacks.

Personality: Tristan has a prickly and abrasive personality, and never hesitates to insult people who he thinks ‘had it coming’, thus frequently getting into trouble due to his loud outbursts. His rudeness is generally a defense mechanism since his younger sister and close group of friends all happen to be Omegas, and he hates being mistaken for an Omega himself. Tends to be very self-conscious, temperamental and easily flustered but protective of his friends and family.

Tristan’s parents are both Betas and travel abroad frequently as flight-attendants but make a point of reuniting their family whenever they end up in town in between flights and on birthdays. His sister is an Omega currently working as an assistant librarian at the school Tristan attends, but otherwise remaining mostly unemployed. Tristan shares an apartment with his younger sister and is currently taking art classes in hopes of graduating school with an art major. After college, he hopes to apprentice under a friend of the family and enter the furniture making business, carving hand-crafted, high-end wooden furniture. Until such time he frantically juggles a part-time job in addition to school to make ends meet.

The landdwelling troll gave Zembra a smile in response as she carefully adjusted the saddle on Tobias. She certainly wouldn’t want to accidentally fall out again if Tobias got distracted. Once had been quite enough. “I’m ready, but it might be better if I have the map,” she confessed to her friend. Her lusus could be a bit of a bird-brain at times, and she wouldn’t want to stress Tobias out by asking too much. She hoisted herself up onto the talonbeast’s back and then paused for a moment before turning to the violet blood. “Do you want to come with us, or do you need to go on ahead?”

Skvaada glared at Lupus with frustration, her large hands balling into fists. While she was physically stronger than most trolls, she failed to develop any useful psychic powers. Let alone, something like void powers. Well, except for the one strange occurrence which had been going on while she was sleeping… Whether that could be considered a power or not was still debatable.
Either way, her recently found ability could not be applied to strifing so it was effectively useless in most situations. Her one consolation was that Lupus’ hive would eventually collapse due to structural damage. The thought cheered her up slightly.

Lupus’ statement caused the female troll’s pointed ears to perk up with curiosity. “Well, your reluctance to have your blood color known explains your touchiness on the subject of autopsies. I certainly won’t force you to divulge your secrets.”
At least, I don’t think I CAN physically force you to. But the truth will out eventually. Hehehh.

“Does it really matter, if you were already dead, though? You’re certainly defensive about it. Feeling insecure?”

“Breathing would be nice. And I’ll pack some snacks just in case, since I’ve never had kelp before.” The young troll rose from the couch, grinning. “Wait right there, getting the snacks should only take a second and then I’ll be ready to go!”

Without waiting any longer, the young troll sprinted to the food preparation block and began ransacking her cabinet for portable snacks. Satisfied with a bag filled with a colorful assortment of dried fruits and nuts, Skvaada captchalogued it as a BAG OF SNACKS (3) and made a brief stop at her respiteblock to pick up a saddle for Tobias. Unfortunately, captchaloging the SADDLE (8) promptly ejected her SILK THREAD (8). Not even this momentary frustration could stop Skvaada though, and she merely recaptchalogued the thread as a THREAD SPOOL (7) before returning to her seadwelling friend.

“Your hive has an entrance you forgot about!? That’s not very secure,” she said teasingly with a grin. In the background, the movie’s credits began to crawl their way up from the bottom of the video-viewing screen. Honestly, the prospect of seeing another troll’s hive and having a party was much more exciting than the movie had been. “Is there anything you need that I should bring over?” The troll flicked through her sylladex before noticing that she had some spools of silk thread lodged into one of the cards from her earlier project. “Oh, I have a lot of thread we can use to make some jewelry too.”

Skvaada let out an instinctually angry growl as she snapped her CHAIN WHIP (2) from her sylladex after the first dagger buried itself in the wall near her head. As a warning, she cracked her whip with a sound like thunder overhead as the barb at the tip flailed about almost faster than sight.

The second dagger Lupus threw clearly wasn’t aimed for her, and instead made the entire wall disappear much to the whip user’s surprise. She shifted into a more protective than aggressive stance and involuntarily let out a clearly threatened and scared hiss.

When he then sat down on the couch and showed no further signs of agression, the indigo-blooded troll relaxed a bit out of her strifing stance, but watches him warily. The dagger was clearly a warning, not an actual attack. If it had been an actual attack…

Guess that means no. How selfish.

Tobias stretched her feather neck out and deftly snapped up the popcorn kernels before making a low trilling noise of contentment.

“I’ve never dyed my hair before,” Skvaada confessed, briefly examining a lock and observing the violet streak in her friend’s hair. “It sounds pretty fun, we should try it! Is your hive only accessible from the sea or is there another way to get in?” The seadweller had gotten to her hive very quickly, so it couldn’t be too far away. Especially if Tobias was willing to give her a lift, which was very likely seeing as to how surprisingly quickly she took to the seadweller.

“Interesting!” Skvaada replied in response to the seadweller’s story. “I too used to do some ancestor searching back in the day, but I’ve pretty much given all of that up now.” Her mouth twitched into a smile. “There was one indigoblood known by all as being the STRONGest troll, so he just had to be my ancestor.” It was a little hard living up to his name, but she had certainly done her best to hone her physical ability. “I’m a little unclear about his partner though, but I guess I’ve gotten over it.”

Meanwhile, Tobias had decided that popcorn in fact made a very tasty treat and was scarfing both the cooked and uncooked kernels down her hooked beak before shooting a sharp glance at the remaining popcorn being eaten by the two trolls.

The indigo blood raised an eyebrow, “You sound disappointed. Would you prefer that one of the highbloods come? You’ve made no secret of the enmity you harbor for them.” The purple blood previously covering him was baffling. A quick glance around the hive revealed nothing about Lupus’ blood color. Just what color was he? Purple? Indigo? It was a bit hard to decide exactly what tone to use when speaking to the dangerous troll.

She took a moment to take a breath before speaking. “Trust me, I had no desire to deal with either of you two,” she lied through her pointy teeth. “Alas, today happens to be the same day as one of their most cherished celebrations. Something about ‘sweet elixir flowing’ or whatnot. So, the Empress sent the subjugglators who sent me.” She made a point to scowl as though she had better things to be doing then guarding a parolee. “I am not sure about what the laughsassins are currently doing though. They’ll probably come for you if they ever find out what you did. But it’s none of my concern.” There was a bit of an awkward pause which she didn’t know how to fill. “If you die, Lupus, would you be willing to donate your body to science?”
