Skvaada blinked at the utter destruction of the door, watching it soar through the air before crashing down. Perhaps she and Lupus shared a common ancestry. He certainly was STRONG enough to be descended from her ancestor. “Impressive….I…would have paid for the door to be fixed.”

Mental note: Keep Lupus away from doors. Breaking them seems to be becoming a habit. He is even willing to destroy even his own doors! Addiction must be a powerful thing…

Recollecting her thoughts, she gave the male troll a nod and followed him into the hive. “Thank you. I apologize for dropping in unexpectedly to accompany you on guard duty, but to be honest it was me or a subjugglator.” She glanced around before finding a wall she could lean against nonchalantly, observe and hopefully avoid having to make inane conversation. “Don’t mind me, please resume your previous activities.”

Skvaada glared at her feet as she followed Lupus and Zembra to his hive. She found it absolutely disgusting how the seadweller was able to wriggle her way out of trouble solely on the merit of her noble ancestry. No other troll would have been given a second chance. But Zembra’s freedom would not last long, because eventually she would slip up. Surely, if a close enough eye was kept on the violet blood and certain…temptations were overlooked, the cannibal would succumb to madness once again. The trick was being there to catch her in the act. With good enough proof, surely even the Empress wouldn’t hesitate to toss the criminal back in the castle’s holding cells to rot for all eternity. Skvaada was determined to get that proof. Then, only then could she finally satisfy her need for revenge.
Skvaada took a moment to school her expression into one befitting an indigo blood. She forced herself to unclench the pointy teeth which had previously been grinding against each other before knocking on the door three times in an impatient yet polite manner. “Lupus? If you would be so kind as to let me in? I need to verify that the seadweller has yet to kill you.” The third knock left the door more than a little worse for the wear. “..Drat.”

“No problem. If you need help though, just tell me,”Skvaada replied sounding a bit worried. Ancestor powers worked in strange and mysterious ways though, and they were something she guessed was best worked out by oneself. Not to mention, her spoor slime might also be off. It was supposed to induce dreamless sleep, and yet she had been having the strangest dreams. They were pleasant at least. Hearing the voices of the dead did NOT sound fun at all.

Skvaada hushed up once the action started to pick up in the movie. The protagonist finally managed to get his hands on the magical artifact, a juju belonging to one of his ancestors, but now everything was quickly going to hell in a handbasket.

“How are these traps even still working?” Skvaada shouted with amused exasperation, throwing her hands up as the protagonist was forced to climb onto a swinging blade trap in order to get enough momentum to fling himself over a slitherbeast pit. Meanwhile, the tricky kismesis was finding herself in quite a predicament. Although she was taking malicious delight with the arrival of each new trap, the pity in the captured moirail’s eyes grew as she was forced to watch her friend struggle so.

“Oh, so do you know who your ancestors were?” The words were asked casually, as the indigo-blood did not intend to come off as prying and was just trying to make casual conversation.

“Are you okay?” Skvaada asked, growing a touch concerned as anyone would be at the mention of ‘voices’. But a lack of sleep would explain symptoms like that. After a certain amount of sleep deprivation any living creature would start to go a little bit crazy. At least it wouldn’t be good to jump to conclusions regarding the baseline sanity of her new friend, “When we visit your hive, we should probably inspect your recupracoon. Your sopor might have gotten diluted.”

Zembra didn’t seem to be responding to her though, and instead her just staring straight on ahead with a thousand yard stare. “Zembra? Zembra! Respond!” Forgetting the events of the movie entirely, the indigo blood began to wave a hand in front of her friend’s face frantically. “Alright, you need some help. Come on, you can borrow my recupracoon for a few hours, and we’ll see if that helps any.”

Feferi sighed as the troll in front of her collapsed out of sheer exhaustion as a result of her fragile condition. Although truth be told, Eridan had been much too much work as a moirail, it had never been her intention to leave him distraught and alone for the rest of his life. She had broken off their pale relationship in the full expectation that he would find someone else, and accepting the fact that Eridan refused to listen to her or reciprocate in their moirallegance. It seemed he had managed to find someone to pity him, but it broke a small part of her heart to think that he had lived his life eternally unhappy.

Feeling some amount of responsibility for the child of such an utterly unhappy union, Feferi prepared to make good on her promise. “T)(is troll is not to be imprisoned again. Get )(er a meal, some c)(ange of clot)(es and arrange a more suitable block for )(er to stay in until she )(as fully recovered. Also, make s)(ore t)(at t)(ere are at least two guards watc)(ing )(er at all times. T)(e next culling is in…two days. So, until t)(en you w)(ale )(ave to be satisficed wit)( raw animal fles)(. Dismissed.”

The subjugglators bowed and then promptly played the nose game to determine which one of them would have to escort the seadweller out of the throne room. Skvaada meanwhile glared sullenly at the floor as one of her few sources of entertainment was thrown to the winds. With Zembra gaining permission to eat the slated to be culled wigglers, troll experimental test subjects would become rare if near impossible to find. Of all the rotten luck. If she was of a lower blood caste, she might have been tempted to use profoundly crude language to express her feelings. Of course, if this was the decree of the Empress then who was she to go against it? “Can you stand up?” She asked tersely, even though she was pretty sure of the answer.

Gaelan gaped at the human in front of him. “You’re an…alien!?” A Lucario with an added fire type to it was dangerous enough because it forced him to rely on Adrian. There was no way he was going to send a grass pokemon out against a Pokémon throwing fireballs about. But it might have been doable by using water attacks. This. This was something completely different though.

“Why are you even here, then!? Go back to your planet and leave us alone! This isn’t a matter which concerns you!” Then a thought came to the Pokémon trainer. “Gamer” seemed to have a lot of potentially valuable intel which the bosses would likely just love to hear.

“Okay, listen. Either leave our planet or I’m going to have to take you in for questioning. Adrian, use Swords Dance!” The Kabutops sighed, feeling a little reluctant about having to fight something for seemingly little reason but agreed and began sharpening his arm blades. “This is your last chance to come quietly.”

Skvaada was thoroughly enjoying herself with this movie, it really was much better with company. “Wow! How in the world did she find that!? You better get some security around your hive, because she has CLEARLY been spying on you.” She chuckled with amusement at the thought of the disgruntled kismesis spying on the protagonist with a pair of ridiculous binoculars and all the while desperately wanting to know what was being written in the diary. That level of hate was really something special. Her friend seemed to take the protagonist’s side and protested in outrage at the kismesis’a actions.

The hostess immediately recognized that Zembra was getting more riled up than normal. Her fins were acting a lot like her lusus’ crest, and that spelled destruction. Spurred into action by the impending death of her television screen (having broken things in the house was just plain depressing), she stretched an arm out horizontally to keep Zembra from springing out of her seat and wreaking havoc on her television.

“Shhhh. Don’t worry, she doesn’t completely get away with it. See?” The kismesis in question gleefully went to her husktop to share and spread her ill-gotten info when she realized that the protagonist, before taking off to win back his moirail, had hacked in and changed the language, settings and even scrambled all of the contact names. “Calm yourself, Zem. It’s nothing to get too upset over.”

Skvaada chuckled in response as she took her place on the couch, “Not tame, just well trained.” She decided not to mention that she had been worried too for a second. “She knows not to pick fights with highblood trolls, even if they are seadwellers.” Probably full on seadweller lusii anyways…

When Zembra startled briefly at the start of the movie, the land dwelling troll gave her a strange look. Had she ever seen a movie before not on her computer? If so, that was an absolute tragedy, that must be fixed! Then, of course the movie started getting good and all of
her attention was focused on the events unfolding upon the electronic screen, as the protagonist’s kismesis began devising all sorts of mischief and ruin.

“Oh, nooo! Don’t fall for that! That’s the oldest trick in the book, and you’re how many sweeps old!?” Only the fact that the young troll had company over kept her from angrily flinging popcorn in the general direction of the screen. Despite her vocal complaints, the indigo blood had a grin on her face as she twitched slightly, anticipating the newest string of kismesis induced catastrophes.

Meanwhile, the pale lusus had lost interest in the movie and stalked over to the popcorn cart, sniffing it curiously as if wondering why any creature would choose food grown in the dirt instead of fresh meat.

The suggestion hit her like a particularly brutal gunshot to the stomach. The thought of purposefully feeding young wigglers to another troll was horrendous. How could she be expected to endorse such violent cannibalism? And yet, it was a perfectly reasonable solution. Feferi held her golden trident across her body, tapping one end against the palm of her hand thoughtfully. No matter how much Feferi wished that all of the wigglers could be taken care of, in this current climate it just couldn’t be. The population would expand out of control, and a denser population of trolls would only mean more violence. Not to mention, hadn’t she used a very similar method of pacification so many sweeps ago? Was there really much of a difference between killing innocent troll lusii and killing innocent wigglers for food?

“Fine. W)(y don’t you begin by telling me just )(ow you found out aboat your ancestor in the first place? If you do, I’ll even give your porpoiseition a test-run. Of course, you will )(ave to be under constant supervision. I shrimply can’t give you any opportunaty to attack innocents again.”

The Empress hesitated for a brief moment, wondering if her desire to give this misguided troll a second chance was making her gullible. Was she falling into some wiggler spiderhag’s net? Still, this was what she wanted to do: find compromises to keep what was left of the peace. Feferi gestured to the subjugglators to release Zembra.

Skvaada’s eyes widened in surprise at the leninency being afforded to the wretched violetblood. Her fanged mouth opened in protest and then closed. No matter how concerned she was for her leader’s safety, there was no way she could speak against the Empress herself. The subjugglators looked equally discomforted but withdrew their clubs, readying them just in case before letting go of Zembra’s arms. The subjugglators closer to Feferi withdrew their weapons in turn, preparing for any signs of treachery.

The bird fixed Zembra with two beady and wary eyes as she approached, its crest raising up in alarm at the presence of the fish resembling troll. Her feathers ruffled as the newcomer troll approached, and Skvaada took her eye off of the now popping snacks to keep an eye on her lusus just in case. For a brief moment it looked as though that hooked beak would lash out aggressively and leave in its wake a fresh splash of violet colored blood.

Then, the beast’s feathery frill relaxed and the tense moment was over. Skvaada returned her attention to the popcorn cart, using the remaining glass as a scooper, and Tobias closed her eyes happily and accepted the proffered hand. If the seadweller tried anything, she would rip the troll to shreds, but otherwise, preening was preening. Besides, it was good for her young charge to interact more with other trolls. Talonbeasts may be solitary creatures, but social interaction was necessary for a developing troll.

Having finished scooping the popcorn, Skvaada brought the popcorn glass over and then noticed the lack of progress on getting the troll movie up and running. “Oh, I apologize, there are a lot of players. It should be this one,” she said and began to start up the movie.

With a large amount of exuberance in her voice, Skvaada replied,” Oh my, I actually DO have that movie! With any luck, it should still be in the movie player! If you get the movie started, I’ll make us some popcorn.” She flashed a toothy smile before descending one of the stone stairs to the right and gesturing for her guest to follow suit. “I built my entertainment block down here.”

The block was fairly simple and like most hives was mostly grey in color, with some decorative carvings in the wall giving the room a sort of primitive temple or dungeon kind of feel. The block had no windows but a few electric torches lined the walls for illumination. There was a scanty amount of furniture in the room, a medium-sized television screen complete with a disk player, a couch with stone carving along the sides and furry cushions along the interior, and an antique popcorn popping cart.

Skvaada immediately went to turn on the popcorn making machine and add the uncooked kernels, knowing full well that there was a 100% chance of the movie still being in the player. After watching that movie for the first time, she had enjoyed it so much that the risk of taking it out and accidently damaging the fragile disk was not worth the benefits of seeing other movies. So instead, she tended to buy entirely new movie players for each movie. She had about fifteen in total.

Tobias, the avian lusus fluttered downstairs, with a tray on its beak. Balanced on the tray was the remaining glass and some salt. “Thanks,” Skvaada said, accepting the tray carefully. Doing little things like that were its way of apologizing, and all in all the talonbeast did make a pretty good lusus.

“Do you like salt on your popcorn, or no?”

Empress Feferi paused for a moment, lowering her guard as the mention of Zembra’s ancestors brought back memories of a time several sweeps ago. An era that she willed herself to forget, to shelve and pretend that it had never existed. There was only one troll who could have begotten a violet-blood such as Zembra. And as for his partner, it wasn’t too hard to guess. After all, Feferi’s ex-moirail was notorious for his lack of success in obtaining quadrants. Ancestors were supposed to stay secret, but reely, that wwaver was a dead give-away.

Snapping herself out of her reminiscence, the empress returned her attention once more to the delinquent troll before her. Her eyes flashed fuschia, “T)(AT, is NON—E of your concern, Z-EMBRA. If you were )(oping to )(ave me discuss my ex-moray-eel, then you whale )(ave to be disappointed.”

In order to recover and maintain her condescending image and not appear too eager, she took a moment to inspect her finger-nails. Glub, she hadn’t meant to confirm anyfin, but that word just slipped out! The only thing to do now was to put on her best poker face and hope for the best. The glittery pink had started to chip at the edges and really needed to be touched up. During this time, the guards not so subtly tightened their grip once again. Feferi pretended not to notice. Deciding that Zembra had had enough torment, she glanced up, causing the purple-bloods to cease. “Now, w)(at’s this about a different sort of “jo8″ ? Did you have something in mind? Since, shorely you didn’t come here just to talk about…t)(at.”

Skvaada blinked, feeling a significant amount of platonic pity for the seadweller. Not all lusii were great care-takers, and it sounded like she had a particularly uncooperative one. While she was struggling to formulate an appropriate response, her guest asked another question about her scythe metal. In response, the indigo-blooded troll replied, “Certainly. I would be happy to test this metal for you…”

Skvaada trailed off when she noticed Zembra’s slight shudder after mentioning her shark lusus. “I would be willing to go back to your hive with you, if only for moral support. However, if you don’t want to go back immediately, that is also perfectly fine. I have some troll adventure movies we could watch in the entertainment block.”

The Empress looked down from her golden throne as Zembra was brought forth and restrained by her purple-blooded guard. Although she disliked the cruel treatment, the rational part of her mind accepted her imprisonment as a necessity for not only her own safety but for that of the entire Alternian Empire. In fact, many of her subjects viewed the seadweller’s sentence as being far too lenient. In the days of old, a troll who had such wanton behavior and lack of respect for Trollian life would have been executed by the legislacerators on the spot. Feferi had been trying desperately for the past decades to keep a balance between the compassionate ruler she wished to be and the stern dictator façade she was forced to hide behind in order to keep control and mitigate the damage as her world slowly fell apart due to the natural passage of time, the growing aggression among her troll subjects, and growing rumors of the reappearance of…the game.

The corner of her lips twitched into a frown at Zembra’s flippant remarks. It was clear even from this distance that the troll was doped up on sopor slime, but she was still insistent enough to speak with her.

“Zembra. Do you really expect me to forgive you after all you’ve done? )(ON-ESTLY, it makes me so MAD when I think about all of the poor, innocent trolls you’ve krilled! What do you have to say for YOURS-ELF? W)(y s)(ould I believe you won’t pick up w)(ere you left off?”
