A gleam in Sandy’s eyes appeared at the mention of extra dessert. That puppy was his! The boy immediately pulled out a set of tiger claw gauntlets from his small travel pack and slipped them over his hands. “Alright! Let’s go!” Flicking his feet, two sharp metal blades poked out of his seemingly harmless shoes.

He immediately used the sharp hooked claws and shoe hooks to climb up the trunk of a nearby tree onto a high up and sturdy branch. Sandy leapt from tree to tree, either alighting on branches or simply using the claws to dig into the tree trunks and catch himself, all the while heading deeper into the woods.

Half of his attention was looking at the ground below cautiously. If Miss Bell actually cared for this puppy then it must either be a baby attack dog or something similarly nasty like a hellhound. The other half was scanning his surroundings closely looking for…. Aha! With a leap and a pounce, Sandy speedily eviscerated a harmless squirrel on a branch nearby. He’d need fresh meat to entice the beast. That or a really strong cage. The squirrel carcass was a little to big to stick in his pockets, and he didn’t want the blood to ruin the map and small books he had in his pack, so he simply shoved the squirrel in his mouth and continued leaping from tree to tree, looking for the pet.

“Thanks and OW!” He winced in pain as additional torque was placed on his twisted arm. Sandy let out an aggravated hiss as he thrashed about and in general made a nuisance of himself while trying to squirm his way into getting into a better position for kicking or elbowing Arron. Unfortunately, his attacker wasn’t quite close enough to head-butt either, and any attempt to get to his knees or feet would clearly be met with additional pain and a broken arm.

Feeling more than a little frustrated, Sandy sighed and quit attempting to kick Arron off. “You win,” he concluded while pausing to clench his teeth at the pain, “I don’t really see a way out of this without dislocating my shoulder…and I don’t want to do that in a training exercise.”

Lithuania! I have an incredibly uncanny connection with him. ^w^ He’s basically me as a anime character! We have the same birthday, physical appearance and both have to avoid a Russian acquaintance. My easiest cosplay ever.

Sandy blinked once before cheerily agreeing. “Yup! His name was Max! I’ll go first then,” the boy announced before taking a few steps backwards to look at his opponent and decide what to do. A round-house kick or an eye gouge would probably deal the most damage but would be too easily blocked and anticipated. He tilted his head in thought, trying to restrain his instinct to simply pounce with an eye gouge to the face. Something told him that Arron would be expecting an attack like that… but his instinct hadn’t steered him wrong yet.

With a mischievous grin, Sandy tensed up, his muscles coiling like a spring. In a sudden burst of speed, the boy leapt forward, straight at Arron. He dove straight towards the ground using the forward momentum from the pounce. As soon as both of his hands hit and found purchase on the ground, Sandy swung his body sideways, aiming a crab scissors kick at shin-level in an attempt to knock his opponent and off balance to the ground.

Sandy watched the whole brief struggle between Bell and Max with a calm expression, unfazed by any of the violence. At least it wasn’t him! With a satisfied grin, he glanced around at his fellow cadets, looking for a partner before his gaze settled on the newcomer, Arron. The young man capered over until he was a few feet in front of Arron. Tilting his head to the side in a way not entirely human, Sandy asked inquisitively, “Wanna be partners for this?” The boy made sure to give a smile which would hopefully be perceived as “friendly”, revealing oversized lower bicuspids.

Gaelan glared at the smug looking Lucario. “And just what is this oh so important info? Or are you wretched Peace Keepers jut stalling for time?” The trainer made a scoffing noise which conveyed just how much he believed in the truth of the Lucario’s words. “If you find a way to stop the disease, that’s great. But don’t even think about trying to interfere with our plans or our fight. We want whatever info you have on the legendary Pokémon and the wild Pokémon HQ, and I’m not leaving until I get it.”

Sandy grimaced as he was somehow roped into running out of sheer fear to what Miss Bellum would do. It wasn’t that dish duty was particularly horrible to him. After all, perhaps some of the fellow cadets would leave extra scraps or uneaten tidbits on their plates for him to finish up? No, what scared the young man much more was the fact that this was their first day of training. Any miscreants or slackers would most likely be dealt with harshly as an example.
What have I gotten myself into!?

With a burst of energy, he sprinted past some of the cadets while moving in a zigzagging pattern and moving in leaps and bounds instead of a steady rhythm. Whenever he ran out of breath or got tired, Sandy would slow to a snail’s pace. allowing other cadets to pass before dashing forward again.

As soon as he overheard what sounded like one of his senior officers berate a nearby fellow cadet, Sandy immediately remembered why he had been having that tingling feeling in the back of his mind about not belonging. He was supposed to listen to the intro speech and THEN unpack, not the reverse!

With a sheepish smile, he followed the officer and the cadet to the training grounds and joined the other cadets while attempting to blend into the crowd.

A lithe figure walked down the halls cautiously, pausing every few steps to sniff the air and listen for noise. He was determined to take in as much sensory information as possible before forming an impression of his troop. In the young man’s hand was a well creased scrap of paper listing his troop assignment and some basic information such as the names of his superior officers and his sleeping arrangements. Sandy clutched the paper like a lifeline as he headed to the cadet housing block.

Once inside his room, Sandy promptly dumped his supplies haphazardly on the floor and cast a look around what was to be his new home. There would be time to unpack later, now it was time to wander and explore. Sandy fished out a granola bar from the front pocket of his backpack and devoured the chocolate covered snack immediately. Feeling optimistic and slightly less hungry, he grinned, pocketed the slip of paper and left his room.

As soon as the newcomer appeared, Gaelan’s pokemon immediately took battle ready stances.

Sandstream hissed and immediately jumped onto Gaelan’s back, wings outstretched and fangs bared as she prepared to leap at the Lucario threatening her friends.

Adrian merely turned his large armored head and glared at the upstart warily.

Brielle tensed up, settling into a boxing stance as she sized up Gamer. He was within range of her specialty uppercut but she merely bounced lightly on her feet, waiting for any sign of hostile action before starting a fight.

Gaelan himself scowled as he fixed two angry red eyes on Gamer, his expression contorting into one of pure hate at the thought of those goody-two shoes Peace Keepers. How had they been discovered so quickly? Was there a mole in the True Heirs organization? Sandstream shivered slightly as she felt the amount of anger emanating from her trainer.

Gaelan hissed, “You have to be kidding me. The end of the war? This is just the beginning! Now, just how did you know we were coming? We can do this the easy way or the fun way…”

Gaelan shrugged, “As long as you’re okay with getting their attention. Send up some sort of signal if you get into too much trouble.” Turning to his Pokemon, the trainer instructed, “Get ready to go once Jason’s got their attention.”

I blinked, frozen in surprise when Meg rushed in for an unexpected hug. Something had clearly gone on in the cafeteria, although I had no clue as to what scumbag could have bullied her like this. The sudden flare of protectiveness that rose up when I thought about my Meister getting hurt lost to the flutter of happiness I felt at getting hugged for the first time since discovering I had the ability to transform into a deadly, sharp weapon.

As nice as the hug felt, I was grateful when Meg dragged me out of the school to go get lunch. It gave me enough time to school my face back into a casual one with no trace of any embarrassment or blushing. I really didn’t want to do something awkward and mess up our first day as partners.

“Hang on, we need to go left,” I instructed with a slight smile, as I guided Meg towards where I remembered the stand to be, no longer needing to be pushed. This girl was talking really quickly, which normally would have bugged me but since I was actually interested in hearing what she had to say, it didn’t irk me.

“To be honest, I don’t know very much about music. I mean, I switch around the radio channels sometimes but I don’t really have a favorite artist or anything,” I laughed slightly, well aware of my own ignorance before turning to look at Meg, “What about you? Do you have any favorites? You seem like you really like music…” That was a bit of an understatement, seeing as she had been blasting out loud music I had never heard before and jamming along with it or something.

Adrian hissed angrily at the perceptiveness that just added to the list of annoying traits the Quilava in front of him possessed. “I am not happy about this. You are unpredictable, cowardly and I believe keeping secrets from us. I also still don’t know why you were spying on us. So forgive me if I am not thrilled with the prospect of entering enemy territory with a wild card.”

Sandstream ceased humming to point excitedly out the window, “We’re getting closer!”

Gaelan nodded, “Looks like it’s show time.”

Ryuu parked the car with the Rocket Logo still emblazed upon the sides a ways away from the Peace Keeper HQ so it would not immediately be discovered.
