I eye the meister beside me with a scrutinizing gaze before shrugging. She was a bit reckless but overall she seemed like a good person with a brave soul, someone I found myself easily admiring and someone worth protecting. “Okay,” I respond simply, because surprisingly, it was a simple, obvious choice. Starting to feel like I was becoming too soft a touch, I hastened to add, “As long as we’re compatible. I should warn you, I’ve already accidently given one meister frostnip.” I give a slightly forced smile as a memory of my younger brother attempting to wield my weapon form surfaces. The subsequent Soul Rejection which occurred had been unpleasant for both of us and led to my enrollment in the DWMA. I had a good feeling about Meg though, and didn’t really expect a problem.

And then Tartarus got up to leave the classroom followed by his pet goat. To be honest, with all of the craziness involving the exploits of my fantasy novel, I completely forgot that Tartarus was hiding a goat beneath his desk of all things! As Professor Stein asks for more volunteers, I gently poke Meg out of both a desire to test our Wavelength compatibility and out of pity for Tartarus, “Let’s try. Should be better than class.”

Brielle and Adrian whispered to each other in hushed tones while their trainer, Gaelan, left to prepare some food for their team. “Brielle, what are we doing here? We have to go sooner or later. Once the fighting starts for real, True Heirs is NOT going to want Pokémon like us hanging around. We should leave while the going is good.” Adrian asked, his voice a fearful whisper as he rubbed his hands together nervously, The blades on the end of his arms making a sharp ‘snick’ as they clacked together.

“Adrian… you know exactly why. We can’t just leave Gaelan, not after he vouched for us.” Brielle replied, flicking her mushroom laden tail furiously. Adrian sighed in response. Originally, Gaelan’s team was sure they were done for when True Heirs recruited their Pokémon trainer, but amazingly he vouched for them and refused to join until he was sure his Pokémon could live in the HQ safely because he trusted in their loyalty to him. No one had been happy, but it had prevented any needless fighting and kept the three Pokémon, especially the innocent Sandstream safe.

“We’re gonna leave Master!? I DON’T WANNA!” Sandstream, who had been hiding in the room’s rafters, wailed.

Brielle sighed in a placating tone, “Don’t worry, no one’s leaving anybody,” while Adrian hissed out of ear-shot of the young Gligar, “We’re going to have to eventually. He’s been getting worse every day.”

Brielle glared and shot back, “It’s not his fault. It’s his disease. You can’t possibly be blaming this on Gaelan.”

“I’m not blaming him, but you can tell what he’s turning into and where this is going end.” Adrian retorted, before falling silent as the door to the room opened and their trainer walked in carrying plates of pancakes, berries and some slices of pan-fried kipper. Gaelan nearly tripped and dropped all of their breakfast when Sandstream pounced, wrapping her wings around her trainer’s neck affectionately and throwing him off balance.

“ACK! Hello SS. PLEASE get off of me, I’m going to drop this!”

Due to his request, Sandstream happily released him in favor of grabbing some large strawberries off the plate to nibble on.

“Alright guys, eat up! We have a big day ahead of us.”

    Name: Gaelan Jones

    Age: 23

    Gender: Male

    Original Species: Human

    Affiliation: Normal Trainer

Side on the War: True Heirs. He is afraid peace will cause humans and Pokémon to passively accept the effects of the disease.

    Allignment: True Heirs.

Personality: Impulsive with a tendency to fixate. Has a strong sense of honor.

Appearance: Gaelan has long black hair shaped in a thick ponytail which ends about mid-back. His favorite color is green, and he cycles between three main outfits during his adventures. He often wears a simple moss green T-shirt with a stylized Pokeball symbol on the front and tan cargo pants.

Due to the disease: his ponytail crooks to the side at an awkward angle, and his skin has changed from tan to ashy grey. The scelerae of his eyes have turned red. He is steadily growing shorter.

    Team:

    Name: Brielle
    Gender: Female
    Original Species: Breloom
    Age: 14
    Personality: Spunky and passionate
    Side of War: Peacekeepers
    Alignment: True Heirs

    Name: Adrian
    Gender: Male
    Original Species: Kabutops
    Age: 30
    Personality: Calm, calculating and devious
    Side of War: Rightful Inheritants
    Alignment: True Heirs

    Name: Sandstream
    Gender: Female
    Original Species: Gligar
    Age: 10
Personality: Playful and curious. A bit of a prankster
    Side of War: Peacekeepers
    Alignment: True Heirs

History: Gaelan was a fine Pokémon trainer before the disease and remains affectionate to his team. When not battling for fun, Gaelan had a job at the PokeMart adventuring into dangerous terrain to find ingredients for Potions, Elixirs, Repels, and Rare Candies. He pushes both himself and his Pokémon to the limit, taking everything to extremes: training, battling and having fun. Now, he fights on the side of True Heirs out of loyalty both to his species and out of fear of the growing equality between Pokémon and Pokémon Trainers and the possibility of the disease causing a complete and irreversible transformation.

((Yay! So many more people!!)) My eyes widened when Meg stood up to both me and Stein. For a moment, I thought Meg was actually going to get away with directly sassing Professor Stein up until he actually knocked the meister down before I could even shout out a warning. Wow, that was harsh! Things were fairly awkward now, and not helped by the new student who comes in. There was only one thing I could do. I take in a breath, and let it out slowly. Then, I get out of my seat, going as quickly as I could while trying to be non-disruptive to the class, and walk down to go get Meg.

I sling my friend over my back with only a little bit difficulty and then pause for an instant. Should I just bring back to her seat and carry on with the lesson or take her straight away to the infirmary? Since she was still conscious, I decided to help her back to her seat, making a mental note to keep an eye out for her and make sure she goes to the nurse’s office immediately after class. As I walk back to our seats, I whisper to her, “You are completely crazy, you know that?” My words contradicted the appreciative smile on my face as I brought us back to our seats.

Thanks for the tip! The Tabletop Adventures has given me some good ideas for making classes and more trainer customization!

I was thinking, for managing the move limit that Pokémon could learn all of their naturally learned moves/bred moves but in order to teach a Pokémon a TM, HM or tutored move, you have to choose a move to forget. (This move could then be tutored back later if you change your mind). Does this sound fair?

Right now I’m making my own region, and the trainers attend a Pokémon Academy which accepts students from all other regions. I’ve been blending things from other regions though like Shadow Pokémon, Mystery Dungeon items and Pokémon Contests. I’ll definitely link you to some of the files when I’m done in case you want to run a similar campaign. 🙂

I smile back as my offer to borrow the book was …actually considered for once. I have to admit, that sort of threw me. How’s that for a plot twist? I may have actually made a friend in this class. I can’t really remember whether she was a Weapon or a Meister, but either way it’s nice to have a partner in crime and a fellow book-lover. Also, maybe I could borrow some graphic novels too…

Of course, my joy was short-lived when one of my fellow students ratted me out. It just had to be Samantha Law, and not some loudmouth Stein would have just tuned out. I tend to freeze when I get put on the spot, and this time was no exception. I could feel my face turn bright red, as soon as I got caught and steam fogged up my glasses. “I- I–uhhh. Well…you see…umnnn…” I began to panic when Stein headed toward me, originally trying to shove the offending book back in my bag but I ended up flinching preemptively when Stein got closer. <Please don’t let me get dissected…> The mad scientist calmly snatched the book from my fingers, and hit me upside the head as a quick rebuke before leaving to continue the class normally. Once he was far enough gone I let out a sigh of relief before realizing that he still had the book, and I’d have to approach him after class if I wanted it back. Joy.

And then my new friend rose to defend me in a valiant effort which was sure to get me killed. “What are you doing!?” I hiss. “Just let it go.”

The sound of my name being called snapped me out of my book. I briefly glanced at the page number in the corner before turning to face Meg and whispering back, “Storms of the Heart. It’s the third in the series, but I could lend you the first one, Storms of the Soul.” I grinned. The excitement of possibly finding a new reading partner was greater than the fear of getting caught, “The plot isn’t that great, but the characters are amazing!” I gave another glance at Stein who seemed to be writing something on the board, and thus had his back turned. “Have you read anything good, lately?”

I’m excited since I heard rumors that Pearl is going to make an appearance in one of the cases. As nice as Trucy was, I do miss the Feys. It seemed rather unbelievable that Phoenix would have lost contact with them just because of the badge incident.

I don’t do evil things very often, although I love roleplaying villains. For my school’s Pokémon event I showed up in a Rocket uniform and started causing havoc, stealing people’s pokemon. But, I have a horrible temper which gets me into trouble.

In middle school, anyone who teased or bullied my friends would get one warning from me and then if they continued I’d viciously attack! I am also very gullible. So, what ended up happening is that if someone said that X had stolen Friend A’s homework, I’d tear through the entire school to find that person. I never beat up anyone I hadn’t seen cause trouble, but I have chased them around the school, terrorized them, waited for them outside the bathroom, etc. I am certain that most of these people were probably innocents. ><

I give up trying to ignore the music, and glance down at the boy in front of me. “Hey Tartarus,” I responded, tilting my head in acknowledgement to my fellow student and adjusting the frame of my glasses afterwards. “What’s with the,” I trailed off as Tartarus began trying to hide his pet goat while students were shuffling in. Sensing the eminent arrival of the school’s resident mad scientist, I shut my trap and began rifling through my backpack to find my school supplies. I pulled out a mechanical pencil, a rubber eraser and a notebook with my name and an image of a soul on the cover. I balanced the notebook slightly over the edge of the desk in order to conceal a paperback novel which I planned to read during class. In the novel, Princess Psyche had just discovered a hidden passageway leading from the mysterious transfer student’s room to a secret underground city. I just had to know what was going to happen next! Besides, I was reading which was an academic thing to do, right? I gave a quick glance to the students sitting next to me, but they seemed too focused on their own studies to rat me out. I let a small smile sneak across my face. This would be the best class ever!

I cluck with frustration as I glance at my watch for the tenth time this morning. Why had I woken up so early? There was enough time before class that going now would mean awkwardly waiting for more students to arrive either by myself or worse, with Professor Stein! Still, there wasn’t quite enough time to go back to my dorm room and sleep either. Sighing, I grudgingly enter the classroom. Worse comes to worse, I could just read my novel while I wait.

As soon as I enter the classroom, my eyes widened. Loud music blared throughout the room, and was that a goat in the classroom? Did a student really smuggle in a goat to class? And was that goat the beast responsible for several of the bite marks on the wooden desks? Also, who would bring a live animal to one of STEIN’s classes? What if we were dissecting something today? Grinding my teeth slightly to stop myself from yelling at Tartarus first thing in the morning, I walk past my classmates and pick a seat directly behind them, throwing my backpack onto a seat beside me.My seat choice turned out to be a mistake because of the loud, raucous music playing from Meg’s phone. I begin counting backwards under my breath to drown out the horrible noise. “100, 99, 98…”

  • Name: Connor Wilkes
    Age: 17
    Gender: Male
    Species: Demon Weapon (Glaive)
Connor Wilkes tends to make a poor first impression. He is rather fastidious and is easily irritated by lack of punctuality or unforeseen complications. A large majority of this irritation comes from his near constant anxiety of having to adapt to new circumstances when things don’t go as planned. He is easily flustered and overwhelmed when criticized or forced to adapt. When relatively relaxed and at ease, Connor is caring, less critical and much more bearable to be around. He has an intense sense of duty and loyalty, and gratitude.
Background: Connor discovered he was a Weapon around the age of 13 like his great grandmother. His parents originally worried about sending him to a school to learn how to fight monsters and initially encouraged him to hide his abilities. After several instances of uncontrolled transformation, his abilities as a Death Weapon became revealed to his friends and classmates and it became simply too dangerous to allow Connor to continue without any guidance.
Appearance: He has blue hair approximately neck length, a tall and lean build and a frequent frown on his face. Connor wears long dark cargo pants with plenty of pockets down the sides and either a tucked in shirt with a high collar or a long jacket depending on the temperature. He also has a pair of black glasses.
His glaive weapon form has a dark staff and the blade’s steel has a deep blue tint. A short blue spike is connected to the butt end of the staff, while the main blade has a smooth cutting edge and a back hook along the blunt-side. He can partially transform his hair to be spikes of jagged steel.
Other: He is incredibly near-sighted without his glasses. Also, his hobbies include handicrafts of all sorts and fiction novels. He tends to get overly excited and quite animated when talking about his favorite books. Connor also adores food of all sorts, and is a complete glutton despite having excellent table manners. He has a high tendency to transform in his sleep and wake up embedded in the mattress the next day.
