Dimitri woke up to warm sunlight streaming on his face through the window. There was a dull pain around his chest where the bullet wound had been stitched up, but he could tell the pain would have been far worse without the pain medication. His shirt had been completely torn to shreds to get to the bullet wound as well which was a necessary shame, at least he had some spares. Glancing about in confusion, the mage tried to sit up and winced slightly when a jolt of pain accompanied the too quick motion: a forceful reminder to take it easy. He had originally planned on waking up early to cook breakfast for Fallen in thanks for letting him stay the night, but that looked like it would be much more difficult to pull off in his present situation.

He noticed Fallen’s hand holding onto his own, and his eyes widened in response. Has she… been here all night?! Since he was still in her apartment and not in some kind of medical facility, so Dimitri had to assume that she had even been the one to take the bullets out. He had to have been the luckiest guy in the world to meet Fallen. Dimitri drew Fallen’s hand closer and planted a feather-light kiss on the back, not wanting to disturb her if she was still asleep.

“Thank you,” he said softly with a smile on his face.

Dimitri briefly snapped into focus when he heard the girl beside him scream loudly, every sense on high alert as he feared that the shooter had come back. She seemed to be okay though and simply getting the bullet out of her own wound. Nothing immediately dangerous or lethal. As quickly as the increase in attention came, the darkness began creeping back up around the corner of his vision. The sight of Fallen approaching him with needles was the final straw. Even on the best of days, he hated needles and getting shots but the thought of getting sutured up terrified him. The young mage promptly passed out unconscious, still staining the floor beneath him with a slowly growing puddle of blood.

He barely had time to even register the fact that the person in front of him was holding a gun, let alone summon his suit of armor, before the sound of shots rang out loudly into the night. For a second, he stood stock still in shock, unable to believe that he had just been shot. Then his lower abdomen felt like it was on fire as a burning, excruciating pain shot out from the bullet wounds. The front of his clothes began to stain a bright, angry red color. Two bloody holes in his body, but hadn’t there been a third shot? “Fallen, did you–?” Dimitri’s vision began to get dark and hazy until he toppled over.

He was only dimly aware of Fallen’s comforting voice and warmth nearby. She was telling him something, but the sound came out slightly distorted in his shock. There was also a whimpering noise in the background, and it took him a while to realize was coming from him. Dimitri could feel the soft touch of her hand on his head, and even if he couldn’t understand what she was saying, the fact that she seemed to be okay was comforting. His eyes fluttered as he struggled to stay awake.

Dimitri perked up at the mention of a gift. Gifts were always good, and he had been training diligently, so it wasn’t too outrageous to think that he might have earned a new set of armor for his hard work. Alternatively, perhaps the guild sent him something to help him on the road to love? Whatever it was, it had to be something special to entrust to a messenger instead of simply waiting for him to return to the guild.

“Oh, how nice of them! My apologies, I thought you wanted to ask questions for that bachelor article in the magazine.” If this did in fact, turn out to be the paparazzi, then the mage would be angry beyond all reason.

    Dimitri opened the door.

Dimitri frowned as he didn’t immediately recognize the voice speaking on the other side of the door, ruling out guild members. It had to be those darn paparazzi again, which would explain how they had found Fallen’s home. The Blue Pegasus mage let out a sigh, trying to keep the frustration out of his voice. Had he really been interrupted for this?

“Listen, I’ll be more than happy to answer as many interview questions as you like for Sorcerer Magazine, but tomorrow. It’s nearly midnight now, and my hostess clearly understands the importance of beauty sleep. If you give me your address, or a time and place I could treat you to a nice lunch for the inconvenience.”

Dimitri noticed the movement closer to him and wrapped an arm around the girl’s waist to press her even closer. He set the glass of water aside before happily surrendering his hand to Fallen’s embrace and locking fingers. He began to lightly trace lazy circles on her palm with his his thumb as he turned to fully face her. The flattery Fallen was dishing out was stroking his ego in all of the right places, giving him a huge grin on his face.

“I run very fast,” he confided in a light, teasing tone, “but actually I was hoping to change that. Would you like to eat dinner with me tomorrow? My treat, of course.”

Then the knock came at the door. Dimitri’s face turned to one of slight confusion. He didn’t know anyone besides Fallen in town, and certainly hadn’t told anyone he would be staying with her. Nonetheless, he got up off the couch (reluctantly) and headed over to the door. Maybe the guild tracked him down to wish him moral support?

    “…Hello?”

Dimitri grinned in return at the tattoo on the back of her neck, noticing and appreciating the saucy wink. So they were both mages… that was good. Fairy Tail and Blue Pegasus had a friendly rivalry going at the most, so it would be unlikely for guild tensions to get in between them.

He took another sip of water and hummed a note of happiness. She’s quite the catch, literally. He thought to himself as he glanced at the beauty sitting by his side, his heart rate going back up at the playful wink. But if anything, I believe she caught me instead.’

Dimitri followed alongside and looks around at the hotel room. It was pretty cozy, and would definitely be better than anything he would be able to order for himself so late at night. He took his own seat on the couch, leaning back against the comfy cushions happily. When Fallen offered him some water, he gratefully thanked her and took the glass and a small sip of water before speaking.

“I’m a Requip Mage working in the Blue Pegasus guild at the moment,” he said adjusting his shirt so she could see the tattoo on his left shoulder area. He gave her a slightly rueful smile in return, “They’re a fun group, but as a new recruit I don’t go on a lot of missions just yet. So my days are spent practicing magic, training and playing music mostly. With the odd errand running and spying on rival guilds as well.”

He didn’t want to mention that only half of the training was for combat. Most of Blue Pegasus’ training consisted of learning dances, easy meals to cook, mixing drinks, flower meanings and other tactics for boosting their popularity scores for Sorcerer Magazine.

” I never asked, are you also a Mage?”

Dimitri let out a soft sigh of relief that she had two beds, otherwise he’d have to insist on sleeping on the couch or floor. The warm feeling of her fingers entwined with his own made his heart catch in his throat. Despite the fact that they were standing in the street in full view of the pedestrians and the two people walking by, the young mage could only focus on the beautiful smile in front of him and the warm, fuzzy feeling it gave him. Her warmth and kindness was making him melt. His own heart fluttered helplessly when he realized that he was putty in her hands. There was no possible way he could say no to the girl in front of him.

“Of course,” he responded completely intoxicated by Fallen’s beautiful smile. “I will deny you nothing.” He then let out a sigh of contentment and gazed at her with a love struck expression. “You’ll have to lead the way, my dear. I’m afraid I’m completely lost in your beautiful, beautiful eyes.”

Dimitri blinked at his mistake, it really was dark if he was getting something like that wrong. His own blush at the mistake matched the girl’s in front of him. The way she was gazing at him also flustered the young man a little, and he could never say no to flattery of any kind. The girl in front of him was very sweet and kind to offer him a place to stay, but also a bit suggestive and the thought made his cheeks turn slightly pink in color. He also wasn’t sure what the hotel situation was like since he had originally planned to take a train to the Blue Pegasus Guild.

When she handed the flower back to him, Dimitri took a step forward to place it in her hair. If the action allowed him to move even closer than he had been before and lean slightly over her, well so much the better. The mage decided to take more time than necessary in putting the flower into position, savoring the soft texture of her hair. He gently brushed some strands aside and playfully let it run through his fingers. “Ah, I don’t currently have a place to stay, but…well, I would never dream of imposing.” Technically she hadn’t asked him over, but he assumed that was what she was implying.

He tucked the flower into place and then smoothed some locks of hair back over it. The flower looked much better in Fallen’s hair than in a vase or the Blue Pegasus gardens.
“Your beauty improves the flower, Fallen.” He said honestly with a smile, although his slight blush had only just started to fade away.

Dimtri grinned and coupled her soft giggle with a short chuckle of his own. That blush is pretty cute, he thought to himself, eyes flashing. That plus the adorable giggle was enough to make his entire month.

“How fortunate for me. I shall never tire of catching you when you fall, my dear! It’d be a shame for you to get hurt.” She brushed herself off at this point, and Dimitri waited for her to carry on and lead the way. Instead, she threw him for a slight loop by asking about the color of his eyes. Now that he took the time to notice, it was beginning to get dark and a bit late. All the more reason to safely escort Fallen safely to her destination in case ruffians or drunks became a problem.

“Oh, our eyes are both blue,” he replied gently, “although your eyes would put even the grandest sapphires to shame. Mine are merely the shade of forget-me-nots.” He pulled out a sprig of said flowers to give to her, “the flower of faithful love.”

Dimitri’s smile widened from pleasant to positively jubilant at the sound of Fallen’s laughter. Her name was unusual and possibly self-chosen but elegant nonetheless. When she returned the bow and began to straighten a crack in the pavement caused Fallen to trip and hurtle towards the ground. He couldn’t have that, now could he?

The Blue Pegasus mage darted forward to catch the girl and secure her safely in his arms before she could fall and suffer any injuries. His touch was light and gentle as though she was something delicate to be protected and because he didn’t want her to feel trapped or manhandled. While they were closer then normal, he took the time to gaze into her eyes, taking the time to really notice the interesting shade.

“Were you named that way because you’ve fallen from heaven? Or because you’ve already got me falling for you?”

He then carefully began to move so she could get back to her feet if she wanted to.

“Parli italiano? Eccellente una cosa meno devo insegnarti.” (YOu speak Italian? Excellent, one less thing I have to teach you.) Manticore replied with genuinely pleased surprise. That made everything just a little bit easier that he could speak Italian and converse with not only the mafia bosses but the lower ranking mafiosos as well. To Bell’uomo she said in her higher-pitched toddler voice, “Sono sorpreso sei caduto per quel trucco.” (I’m surprised you fell for that trick.) She didn’t want to imply that the man was slipping since he had sounded genuinely distressed about whatever force he had encountered in the west, but poison was one of the oldest tricks in the book. Speaking of that alarming phone call… The thief gave the boss a significant look as Leon walked back to the bar and whispered, “After you are finished here, I’d like to hear about your trip west.”

As Leon settled over by the counter, the Arcobaleno elaborated. “I was just beginning to explain and demonstrate the power of Dying Will Flames to Leon, here. ” She then decided to sit on the sofa she had been on last night with Carmen curled up at the illusionist’s side and better hear what the mafia boss came to tell them.

Dimitri paused mid-step when the girl called out to him. “Oh!” Had he completely missed the cue to follow her? He hadn’t wanted to track the girl around the city unbidden like some kind of roguish guttersnipe. In the briefest of moments, the young mage had spun around a crisp 180 degree on his heel and smoothly glided over to the young woman’s side.

“Of course! I would be honored to escort you wherever you need to go.” The Blue Pegasus mage bent at the waist to give the girl a courteous bow before straightening up again. He spoke softly, with a hopeful smile back on his face. ” Starry Night Dimitri Harbeck, eternally at your service. And may I ask for your name, oh sweet enchantress?”

Dimitri blinked with surprise as the girl left without a word or response to his question. Usually, his flattery garnered something whether it be a light blush accompanied with a smile or a peeved look of indignation. The Requip mage had to take a moment to process the clear rejection before sighing again and continuing on down the street in a different way so he wouldn’t be harassing the young girl. It was still a complete mystery why she had been lying there.

The fair haired young mage continued onward towards where all of the commotion and lighthearted revelry seemed to be coming from. It’d be nice to try and sneak a peek at the famous Fairy Tail guild while he was in their hometown, and he might have better luck flirting with some lucky gal (or guy) there.
