“Alright! Just give me your soul and I can get to the ritual necessary to infuse myself with it.” Mars opened his bag, and pulled out one of his vials from within it’s depths. “Wherever you’ve been keeping the soul, put it in here. Or if you need me to, I can extract it, but I’d rather just have it handed to me. I’m not sure if performing spells like that is good for me right now.” Having said this, Mars handed Tom the vial and waited patiently for his soul.

Mars turned towards Tom. “Sure, I can do that. I doubt the foul witch would let it go that easily, but it’s better than nothing I suppose. And what is there to die from? The only thing I know of that could kill you is the witch, and if I have a stable connection that isn’t something to worry about. I can oppose her if I have a good connection to this world. She isn’t nearly stupid enough to attack this place on her own, her trying to kill Godal is evidence enough of that. Anyway, you have a deal buddy. I’ll take your soul in exchange for bringing you back, although there is a precautionary measure necessary for this.” Mars took out a small jewel. “If I focus on this crystal when you die, I can teleport to you and retrieve your essence. I assume that you die the same as the rest of us here, as you aren’t cursed the way I am. Anyway, I will bring your essence back and fuse it with your body, reanimating you. But always keep this crystal on you, or I won’t know where to find you.” With that, Mars turned to Aena. “I deeply apologize for what I have done here, but you must understand what happened. I lost connection to this reality and a foul witch possessed me. What you just experienced was not me. You can ask Godal, he probably could tell I wasn’t acting normal.” With that, Mars summoned a small black beanbag chair and lay down to collect his thoughts.

Mars got up from his bed, returned to his house, and sighed. Even from up here he could still hear the commotion. He had to explain to him that he wasn’t trying to harm them, and what really had happened. He got out of his house, descended down, and approached the people. “Everyone,” he said, speaking loudly to get everyone’s attention. “I need you to listen to me so I can explain to you what just happened.” He looked down at the crowd of angry faces in front of him. “I understand you are all quite frustrated with me at the moment, but I insist you hear me out. About 20 years ago, I was travelling in the world with one who I held very dear to me at the time, a blind girl named Willow. Now, when this happened, I was attacked by a demon who insisted that she needed to devour Willow’s existence and forever curse her to a life of unjust misery, murder, and destruction. Hearing this, I knew what I had to do. I demanded that the demon instead take my soul, and the demon complied. I had no idea the effects the curse would have to my body. However, the demon betrayed my trust and murdered Willow, and left me there, cursed to lead a wretched life. The next day, I hung myself. However, instead of dying, the demon had insured that I could not leave this life. I was cursed to wander around, lost and a hollow shell, for 3 years in some form of horrid purgatory. There I saw horrors that many could never even think to understand. After that, I suppose the demon got sick and tired of my torture, and she used her strength to rebirth our universe, resulting in me being as you currently know me. I came to this land in search of the power to defeat her, but even now she works her evil magics. She intended today to take control of me when I was at my weakest, and kill the few people here who could stop her and what she stands for. She hoped that, by taking control of me when my connection to this world was the weakest, she could kill Godal. Obviously she underestimated his skill and overestimated my brute force. Unfortunately, if I die or lose connection with my soul, I do not know what will happen. I fear the same fight as my home, but I am not sure of what may happen. But do we really want to take a gamble like that? I state again, I meant not to hurt you, fellow students. Why would I want to hurt you? Many of you I am friends with, had pleasant discussions and helped things with. Why would I want to destroy you? I am not even asking of you to help me destroy this demon, I can try to do that on my own. I just want you all to trust me and not try to kill me.” With that, Mars stepped down and got ready for a bunch of angry people who still didn’t believe him. Why can’t they understand I’m trying to help them? he thought to himself. Why can’t they just believe what I say?

With the last of his energy, Mars got to his feet. “Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to save the world again.” He thought it rather rich, all things considered, but nonetheless he teleported back to his house and entered his secret room. He sat with a sigh in what he liked to call his own “pocket dimension”. In this place, nobody could bother him. He removed a small black book with gold lining from his bag, and opened it. 6 small circular jars lay there, 5 of them swirling with red, blue, yellow, green, and white energies. “Only one left…” he thought to himself. If I absorb them, I can stop all the unjust murder. I just have to kill that damned demon….” ((Takra, I’m not talking about you.)) But Mars had a first order of business, and that was rest. The fight had certainly taxed him, and he needed to heal up, so he lay on his bed, thinking of the massive workload Godal had given him and that other guy from before. Mars smiled to himself, content with knowing that some people out there just have no earthly idea what the world is really like for others.
-
“Entity?” Mars replied to the strange man who had approached and openly mocked him. “You don’t understand. There are some things in the world, not orchestrated by some brings, but rather in keeping the structural integrity of the laws put into place intact. For example, the speed of light. Unless you are massless or have infinite energy, you can’t go that fast. Is someone stopping you? No, you literally CAN’T. And it can’t just be any soul. I need someone who is strong willed, or I will burn through it in a matter of days. And if they are evil, they could pollute me, which could cause a repeat of what we had here. I need to find a strong minded innocent and kill them and take their soul, simple as that. If you let me do that, I’ll write any essay you want.”
-
“Go ahead and kill me, that’ll result in the same thing. If you want to bet the universe being destroyed on my life, be my guest. But be aware, no matter how powerful you still can’t escape the destruction of everything. Come on Godal, you’re a smart guy. Really.” Mars took a breath, and continued speaking. “You know, I had another name before Mars. I was a great wizard back then too. The greatest in my land. But that’s all in the past. Another universe destroyed because someone thought they could play with forces bigger than me, you, or anyone in this school. You can’t escape the laws of the universe, Godal. Don’t even try.”
-
“Sir, Godal, if you would be so kind, I need to do something very important first.” Mars spoke softly. He’s not going to believe me… Mars thought. “If I don’t get someone’s soul, everything you know will be destroyed. The balance of the universe will be lost and we will all cease to exist. Now, I will do all this that you speak of, but I NEED to find a new soul.” Mars continued rambling. “The reason this happened was because of me missing my soul. I go into a fierce rage when I need a new one, and once I use up the one I have fully, universal imbalance happens, a violation of causality can lead to the entire universe vanishing, dying, or being reborn. I know you don’t believe me, but why else would I attack you like that? I’m not a warrior, dude. Mages calculate their moves, not run into battle blindly. You have to believe me. I’m not here to hurt you all!” Mars yelled, loud enough for everyone to hear. “I just don’t want you all to die! Like the rest of them…” Mars broke down into tears and lay on the ground, bruised and broken, unsure of what lay ahead.
-
Searing pain. The smell of dirt. This is what Mars awoke to. “What… What have I done?…” he spoke quietly to himself. “Oh god…” A gasp escaped his lips as he saw the hell around him. He turned back towards Godal, the black hole somewhat diminished, but still there. “GODAL!” he yelled over the massive thing. “GIVE ME MY MAGIC BACK, I CAN STOP IT!”
-
“What…. is this..” Mars said. No… I can’t let him win. I need his soul. He may have sapped my greater energy…. but I still have the basics. ”You may have sapped me of my powerful spells, but I still have my basics! TAKE THIS!!!” Mars snapped his fingers, and pulled a trick he had been working on. He accelerated two particles into each other at tremendous momentum. “Telekinesis Kugelblitz!” he yelled, but his words were drowned out by the immense force, which would demolish almost everything if not dealt with.
-
“Heh. Grabs won’t work on me either.” Mars quickly teleported out of the hand. “If that’s not hot enough for you, how about something 5x hotter than the sun?” Mars raised his hands to the heavens and summoned giant bolts of lightning. “LET’S DO THIS,” he yelled, manifesting that lightning into a giant electrified sword. “HEAVEN CRACKER!” The sword plunged into the ground just inches away from Godal, but sent out large tendrils of lightning in all directions. “Now you’re finished!”
-
“Hahaha!” Mars laughed evilly as he recovered from the shoulder tackle. “And here’s a lesson for you: your physical attacks will do nothing to me, gramps!” He rushed towards Godal, before teleporting behind him and striking him with a glowing purple fist. “Now, feel all the power of hell!” he yelled, and summoned massive walls of flame from underneath Godal. He grasped his blade, and it grew to nearly twice its size, pulsating with purple energy. “I’ll cut you down, old man!” Mars shouted, preparing to parry the next attack.
-
“Oh well, make it easier for me then!” Mars replied, grinning evilly from ear to ear. “Always love a good MEAL!” With this point he raised his arms and was engulfed by a purple cloud of magic. He was much bigger now, almost as tall as Godal himself. “Now we see eye to eye!” he yelled, pulling what appeared to be a deck of cards out of his pocket. “NOW,” he bellowed, “I’LL DESTROY YOU!”
-
Mars reached the front of the building withing moments. “GODAL!” a thunderous voice boomed. “I WILL DEVOUR YOUR SOUL! I WILL BECOME THE ULTIMATE LIFEFORM!” Mars pulled out his staff, summoned 4 black orbs above his head along with a dark cleaver, and rushed into battle, (almost) all of his most powerful spells at hand.
-
Mars walked around the school, pacing. “My first order of business is to find a new soul.” he said, but suddenly his face darkened and his eyes turned bloodred. “Damn it! I have to fight back” he yelled. “This can’t happen here!” He fell to his knees, clutching his hand to his eyes. “and now,” he said, with a much darker tone than usual. “I’m going to kill Godal…”
-
After presenting this new spell idea and again getting it disapproved for being too dangerous, Mars returned to his room and practiced his theremin, however, he couldn’t get very far. Suddenly, there was an intense burning sensation blanketing his entire being. “That black hole really took a toll on me, but I didn’t expect this soon.” Mars muttered quietly to himself. He removed a small black book, and put another rally on it. 27 innocents, dead, simply to prevent a greater catastrophe. All because he was too weak. He needed to grow strong enough to reclaim his soul. In the meantime, however, it was off to find another strong-willed innocent person to steal the soul of.
